Craft stores sell embroidery rings.  Any sheer fabric would work for the shield as well, pantyhose was just suggested because it stretches and it can be obtained fairly cheaply.  Wal-mart sells knee-highs in lil plastic eggs for I think 75 cents.

I relearned O Tannenbaum.  I used to know it back in third grade, I'm just refreshing a poor memory now.

^Thanks for the advice, though I don't feel comfortable using those as a spit shield. Is it OK I use... what were they called again... those little white masks that doctors use to cover their face? You can buy those anywhere right at a cheap price?

You just don't wanna be caught dead buying pantyhose. =P

A spit shield is essentially a fabric-covered ring that is held right in front of the mic.  It won't muffle your voice, but your consonants won't be as explosive.  Most recording studios have spit shields for their mics.  If you've seen shots of recording studios, that circular thing in front of the mic is the spit shield.

Dust masks may muffle your voice too much.  I've toyed with using a dust mask for recording, once, as I was experimenting with a character who wears a mask.  The mask ended up muffling my voice too much, so we ditched that idea and ended up just using a flanger in post.  You can try a dust mask, they're pretty cheap, but it may muffle your voice too much.  You'd be better off with a spit shield or even just tweaking the track in post.

Back in my day, in the Ice Age, I walked to school in fifteen feet of snow, uphill, both ways, for thousands and thousands of miles in a blizzard!  And when I got there, all the way in Africa, the school was closed to begin with!  But since it was the Ice Age, also known as the Dark Ages, there weren't no radios back then, so no one could tell us!

As for mics not picking up your breathing and such... That can be cheaply avoided.  Make a spit shield with a nylon pantyhose and an embroidery ring.  I made one and used it for recording.  Works wonders.  P's and B's aren't as explosive and the mic won't pick up as much hiss and breath sounds.  And for any additional noise that the mic does pick up... there are audio filters for fixing that in post.

Well, since you're seemingly willing to spend the cash on a good mic, then there's the Yeti THX Certified USB Mic for about $150.

Otherwise, if you wanna save some dough, from experience, a Logitech USB Rock Band mic works quite nicely, too.  I've been using one for a while now and I like how it picks up some of my more difficult-to-hear voices better.  And it was cheap at only $20.

Fixed it for you.  When you go to post an image, don't use the link the "Download this image" provides.  Right-click on the image in the download window, select "Copy image location" which will copy the proper link to your clipboard and then Ctrl-V it into your post.

By the way, it is certainly a cute creature.  A bit light (some levels adjusting in Photoshop will fix that), but cute.

Back in my day, only the well-to-do had a satellite dish, and it was a cumbersome behemoth in the backyard.  It would rotate when one changed channels, and the remote was enormous.  Quite the ostentatious purchase if one was lucky to find a local dealer.

I haven't encountered anyone like that yet, but I wouldn't doubt that such people exist.  There are some people who, for whatever reason, be they religious or just plain nutters, are sheltered for most of their lives.  My niece and nephews are growing up without a TV, and that is just fine.  They don't need it.  But, not having one will hinder any "current events" assignments they need to do.  But, also, due to not being exposed to the media, they will also not be very informative (I guess) when it comes to the latest gaming systems, or even gaming in general.  So, I can see them becoming those types of people who haven't a clue about gaming history.

Thankfully, though, they have me.  I'm the family's ultra-nerd.  They need to be caught up on something nerdy, they come to me.

But anyway, it's certainly plausible that there will be people who have not a single clue about gaming history.  Like Amish people.  Think they'd know about the Dreamcast?

But yeah, I have no idea where I was going with this.

Back in my day, we took notes by hand with a pencil and a spiral-bound notebook.  I still take notes by hand, with a pen, in a notebook.  And our libraries used card catalogs and the Dewey Decimal System.
