"Greetings. In the equation A = (π/1012 × 16,072)(R×R)(E∞)², can you tell me what the value of A is?"

It's gotta be unsolvable bullshit.  What's the value of R, and the [tornado fang] is up with E times infinity, squared?  It's gotta be unsolvable bullshit.

Though, if someone can actually solve this, I wish to know who your math teacher is so that they may teach me their ways.

All that comes to mind is the female soldier from the old arcade game Sarge.

But somehow there isn't an image of her online anywhere sooo...

O_o

Hm... That might be the wrong branch, and my search gives me Sarge's Heroes, and the chick in that isn't in dress beige.  Hell, she's barely dressed.  And... wrong branch.

I'm doing a search as well, and so far, I've come across Sergeant Major Melissa Mao (wrong rank), and there's always Jordan O'Niel (G.I. Jane, but wrong rank).  This might be tough costume, but as a fall back, there's the option of grabbing a pink wig and just going as a Marine buck sergeant.

Stickied this.  Been meaning to for a while.

Anywho, got a cosplay question for you guys.

Recently, I acquired a Marine buck sergeant (lowest grade of sergeant) dress shirt.  It's beige, polyester-wool blend, short-sleeve female cut.  I intend to get a skirt, shoes, and cover for it to complete the ensemble for costuming purposes.

My question for you:  Are there any female Marine sergeant characters that I could use this outfit for?  My mind is drawing a blank at the moment.

Being that it is October and I have costuming on the brain, I went through the local thrift store to just scout for costuming supplies, and I happened upon...

A Marine buck sergeant dress shirt.  Beige, polyester-wool blend, short sleeve dress shirt, with the patches.  Size small, female cut.  And it fit.

I now have the start of another costume.  Just need the skirt, shoes, and cover.

Oh, I also got some boot socks, a bath towel and a hand towel that hopefully won't shed lil fuzzies when I dry my hands with it.  My other hand towel shed and my hands would be covered in fuzz.

I like your friend's glasses.  And hair.  I was trying for that style, but got mine a skootch too short.  Oh well, a buzz cut is fine, also.

Despite the fact that I have a place to stay, I'm still *technically* homeless.

the fact this hasn't changed should be some indication of how the economy is hitting me.

That's the same boat I'm in currently.  In a transient apartment until an opening in a permanent housing placement comes up in December.  Not sure if that's due to the economy or not, however.

Well, the job market is utter [parasitic bomb] around here.  I haven't had much luck finding anything.  Gas prices fluctuate daily, public transit fare has gone up.  Prices in various markets and retail outlets are higher.  I bought a shirt at Hot Topic recently, and at least a couple years ago, a shirt there cost about $18.  I think I spent $20 on this shirt.  And then there's the price of comic books.  Up to $3 or more, for some publishers, though DC has maintained a $2.99 price freeze.

Then, there's the local post offices.  A number of post offices around here have closed and their service areas redistributed to other postal carriers.  Many state-owned agencies are also suffering; a number of libraries were hit hard.  The York County Heritage Trust is suffering, as well.  Many agencies like that have turned to public donations.

Thrift stores have seen an increase in clientele, and the public welfare system has seen its share of increase, due to people losing jobs and such.  The housing market here, though, from what I could tell, has been relatively stable.  As Pennsylvania is a commonwealth, I think our housing market operates differently.  Developers from Maryland and Virginia usually buy land up here and build developments, due to our different policies, that vary township by township.

Anywho...

-Paper towels
-Dish rags
-2 liter of Dr. Pepper
-Lighter, because you never know when you need to set something aflame.

Dragonfruit is indeed very delicious.  Good and juicy, with a bit of that kiwi fruit texture, from what I recall.  Shame that hardly any grocer sells it around here. :(

It was rainy and chilly outside today, so I wore long sleeved shirts and a jacket.  Then, I went out shopping.  I decided to get a haircut as I was sporting a grown-out coarse mop-top, and the quickest way to tame that is with clippers.  However, I misjudged the 3/4 guard, so now my hair's a quarter inch shorter than I planned to have it cut.  Yes, I have a buzz cut.

But, I'm not angry.  I'm happy with it.  And besides, hair grows back.  My hair grows back really thick and quick, so quite frankly, I'm happy to see the extra hair go.

Alrighty, after an evening trip to the mall (hooray for drop-in center activity night!), I got the following:

Aperture Laboratories t-shirt
Nightmare Before Christmas Zero magnet for the fridge
A syringe pen
Pleather fingerless gloves
Delicious chocolate
A haircut that came out a bit shorter than I had planned (misjudged the clipper guard) so now I'm sporting a Marine buzz cut.  Oh well.

Last Friday's episode made me cringe.

(click to show/hide)

It's gotten to the point that I just watch TCW because I feel obligated.  Before, I was enjoying it.  Then, every other episode was canon-[twin slasher].

Made a phonecall to find that my caseworker is out until Thursday.  Tomorrow, I'll need to make another phonecall to see what time I'm meeting with people from the housing authority and to see if I can get a lift.

Sorry, I lack the proportions to volunteer.

On another note, I should consider getting to bed.

I borrowed my dad's computer a couple nights ago and found that he doesn't have Ad Blocker.  For shame.

Though, up until then, I was never aware of the Poise panty liner ads on this site...

The more you know...

I've been suffering from a bad cold for days.  It finally moved from my head, so I can now breathe through my nose and my ears aren't as clogged.  However, it moved into my chest and I've been coughing up ever-increasing amounts of phlegm.  Such fun!

Indeed.  And as I said, Avatar was a very pretty animated movie.

Of the Prequels, TPM had an okay balance of CG, puppetry, and real sets.  If Lucas stayed that route, I probably would have been okay with it.  There were a number of scenes in which Jar Jar was not CG, or at least not entirely CG.  There were some scenes where Sebulba was a puppet.  The shots were done on location, the wide shots were actual tangible miniatures built by ILM.  The podrace arena?  A full set.  The audience were Q-Tips.  The Theed palace on Naboo?  Shot on location in Italy.  The waterfalls in the Theed wide shot?  Salt being poured over the set and filmed in slow-motion.  There was a nice balance with the real objects and the CG.

I won't say much about the plot, but in terms of special effects and CG usage, TPM was the lesser of the three evils.  It was in AotC and RotS where things got worse and sets were entirely digital and utterly fake.  I've seen the production shots from RotS.  Obi-Wan astride a blue blob, dueling with a stuntman in a blue unitard, against a blue background.  Obi-Wan facing off against Blue Unitard Man against a green background with a wireframe overlay for the animators to mo-cap it.  It's very, very, VERY limiting.

The price is what makes me steer clear of Copic markers.  If I want brush markers, I go with cheaper.  Pigmas and Staedler all the way.

However, if the Copic markers are so utterly awesome that you now know why people go nuts for them and that nothing compares to them, let me know.  I may buy a couple and see for myself.

Anywho, I woke up sick.  Clogged ear, clogged nose, sore throat, sneezing, overall feeling of ugh.  And the clogged nose and sneezing are recent developments.  I'll no doubt be sicker tomorrow.  YAY.  :|

Indeed.  And actors on a tangible set act far better than those on a greenscreen.  Honestly, a number of sets in the Prequels could have been made without CG.  Just get creative, people!  It doesn't need to be on-location or constructed from extravagant and expensive materials, so long as effort is put into it and it looks good.

In ESB, Cloud City, not counting the carbon freezing chamber, control stations, etc, was a series of a couple rooms and a couple corridors.  To make it seem bigger, some walls were moved, doors added or removed, lighting changed, shot angle changed, some set dressing here or there and viola!  You have an entire segment of Cloud City!  Did people notice or care?  No!  The audience still believed that the same hallway was actually five or six.  All without the aid of CG, blue screen, and a treadmill.

And it still holds more water than the Jedi Temple.

Today's CGI really isn't much better.  I haven't noticed an improvement at all.

CGI is fine for animation and an entirely-animated movie.  That said, Avatar was a very pretty cartoon.  A very pretty Ferngully remake.   But CGI has become a crutch when it comes to special effects, producers trying to save money, and directors who would rather sit in their chair with their coffee as their giant neck continues to suck their brain matter.
