The misuse of similar-sounding words, usually with amusing results.

You know what bugs me in fanfics?  Malapropisms.

"You've peaked my curiosity!"

"I don't understand the rational!"

Lots of people don't understand the rational.

Oh, right.  I was using that as evidence to support my argument that Joe Corroney has become Greg Land.

...I think I'll drop my attempt at late-night forum moderating.
When I find myself thinking "I want to kill you" to some newbie's post... yeah.

That thought crosses my mind when I see stupidity on Wookieepedia.  It just means that you're shaping up to be an evil admin. :P

I had a thought.

Since after a molt, you can see an insect's beating heart through their exoskeleton, as it had not yet hardened...  Then for an insectoid, would you be able to see their beating heart through their thorax after a molt?  No doubt, that insectoid would be self-conscious about their soft and pale appearance and would sooner hide out and harden in the sun, but I still wonder.

I miss the days of animatronics, puppets/muppets, and stop-motion animation.  Thankfully, The Aquabats! also feel the same way.  There isn't a whole lot of "state of the art CGI" trickery in any given episode of The Aquabats! Super Show!.  It's all puppets and 80s CGI. (Transparency effects for ghosts and such.)  And it's all very retro, but also believable.  Kind of campy, too, but that was the intention.

Now compare that to any given Hollywood blockbuster movie.  Hulk is a good example.  Specifically, the scene where he picks up a tank by the turret and throws it into the mountains.  Everyone knows that was fake, but apparently, a lot of people can't see how or why it's fake.  I tend to notice things like this and can easily tell the difference between CGI and creative prop and set design.  And when CGI inundates a live-action movie while trying to look completely realistic, well...  That's a bit of a turn-off for me.  Sure, it was fun to, for another example, watch Yoda demolish Darth Sidious like some kind of freaky Jedi frog in Star Wars, Episode II (and then later bust a move with random Clone Troopers), but I honestly prefer the muppet Yoda over a fully CGI Yoda.

The thing about tangible special effects is just that; it's tangible and therefore real.  Puppet Yoda will always be more real because he is real.  My brother thought that the best-looking Prequel Yoda sequence was when he was walking in AotC, and for the longest time, he wondered how much of the CGI budget went into that tiny little sequence because it looked great.  Then, he found out the reason it looked so real.

That wasn't CGI.  It was Warwick Davis dressed as Yoda.

Dammit, Lucasfilm!  Do more of this!  Warwick himself had expressed interest in doing more work, and he demands that you stick him in costume soon before his joints wear out!

Anywho, I'm gonna move along from the subject of stop-motion and other traditional effects and get back to the random pictures.

Have you seen ET?  You know the scene where they're on the bikes and are pedaling passed the moon?

Stop-motion.

AT-ATs in ESB?  Stop-motion.  The rancor in RotJ?  Stop-motion (well, technically go-motion, as the puppet was vibrating to create a motion blur).  The sea creatures in The Life Aquatic?  Stop-motion.  Mini-Splinter in the first TMNT movie ("I mimicked my master's movements from my cage")?  Stop-motion.  Hell, the tiny Turtle tots, for that matter.  ED-209 in Robocop?  Stop-motion.  There was a good bit of stop-motion in the Gremlins movies.  And I could go on about Ray Harryhausen.  But, there's a sampling.  Trust me, you've prolly seen a lot more stop-motion than you realize.

I, personally, like the jittery feel of stop-motion.  It is organic, as if you've watched jumping spiders and flies move about, they move with that staccato pace.  It also works nicely for mechanical constructs.

That's one thing that pisses me off most about Star Wars: Detours; they've gone to CGI.  The team behind Robot Chicken and Titan Maximum had forsaken their stop-motion roots in order to jump on board the bandwagon.  That is unforgivable.

There are ways to reduce the staccato effect of stop-motion, and the easiest is to add motion blur in post.

CGI just annoys the hell out of me because it pushed all the other special effects techniques out and relegated them to the realms of independent films, kid shows, and amateur productions.  If you want mainstream stop-motion, it's going to be in a kid's movie.  Hollywood looks at it as a method of cartooning, when it has so much more potential when used by the right people and in the right way.

The process is still ongoing and it's not gonna pay a lot (I'd get a buck or so a card, and I'd be drawing 100 cards, plus six returns), but it's a start.  They've released a new set this month, so I won't hear back for about a couple months.  In the meantime, I'm still beefing up my portfolio and I'll be sending art samples once a month.

This will get my foot in the door, and will allow me better access to larger projects.

You know that in Bizarre Foods, Andrew Zimmern chickened out on eating a durian.  I have one thing to say about that.

Pussy.

I've eaten a durian.  I bought one at an Asian grocer, cut that thing up (by an open window, with the fan running) and ate the delicious flesh inside.  It tasted pretty darn good for something that smelled of damp, moldy gym socks.

I dunno...  I've seen that floating around and needless to say... I'm iffy about it.  On one hand, it's Robocop and I wouldn't mind seeing another Robocop movie.  On the other hand... it's a reboot and will be chock full of CG.  No stop-motion ED-209 for the kids these days!  No siree bob!  Everything has to be CG!  Let's all jump on the bandwagon and reboot everything there is and pack it all full of CG because that's what the public likes and traditional effects can go suck it! </rant>

Dear mainstream Hollywood...  Enclosed you will find a list of things that you can suck.

Ah.  Yeah, folks are a tad bit more annoying than the people to rearrange lore and logic to suit them...

As for your router, is it by chance a Linksys?  Our WRT model of four years age is being randomly flaky.  It somehow blocks access to and from the modem on random occasion until we release/renew the IP.  Which is doubly odd, since the router itself doesn't say anything's wrong and has the correct information.

It's a Linksys.  It was donated to me by a staff member at a drop-in center I went to.  I some day intend to get a new router, but I'm gonna deal with this one for as long as I can.

What troubles me is the paradox of smart people can be so stupid.

But the fact that I found my old Sega Game Gear made my day. The AC adapter is nearly toast but it can be replaced, right?

If it's a standard AC adapter, yes.

Heh, don't worry about it.  We all have lousy nights.  I, myself, am dealing with a fail router that fails when it feels like it; usually when I'm in the middle of something that requires me to have a stable connection and several tabs open.

As for stupid people...  There are users on Wookieepedia and Star Wars Fanon who are so stupid that I have to wonder how they are able to dress themselves each day.

It has this strange 3D effect.  You should totally make a scrolling 3D version.  That would be trippy to watch.

It sounds delicious.

Right now, I'm eating ice cream.  Peanut Butter Jumble, to be precise.  I have a tub of candy corn and a tub of candy pumpkins in my cupboard, but I'm not touching them.  Nor am I touching the delicious chocolate Dark Side cookie that's in the same cupboard.  Well, not unless I do a whole bunch of exercise afterward to work off the fattening deliciousness.

13873
Velveeta has spirals? And broccoli?

What have I been doing this whole time?

Obviously eating the wrong thing. :P

13874
I prefer Velveeta.  Particularly the spirals with broccoli.
