Mewtwo nodded slowly and studied the bombs for a moment longer.  "Well, I can teleport these.  I can also destroy them.  And to avoid casualties, I will teleport these into the airspace outside, a considerable distance away, and detonate them myself."  He yawned and rubbed his eyes.  "Since I had finally gotten some much-needed rest..."

Quickie backed toward the door, giving Mewtwo some room. "Good luck."

Mewtwo nodded and motioned for everyone to back away while he focused the Barrier around the bombs themselves.  He took a quick count of the bombs that he could see, and concentrated on their placement.  He lifted his arms and held his palms outward, his eyes flashing blue, and the bombs themselves began to take on a blue glow.  "I suggest that everyone leave this area.  I am capable of withstanding any errant explosion, however most of you are not.  Take your comrade and vacate this area.  Quickly."

Quickie glanced out into the hall. "My idea is on his way..."

After a moment or two, Mewtwo entered the engine room.  "Get away from those!"  With a swipe of his arm, he channeled a Psywave between the bombs and the group, moving Julia, Froslynn, and anyone near the bombs backward a few feet.  He got up close to one of the bombs and examined it, then looked to Julia.  "I require a basic description of the trigger mechanism.  I may be able to remove these.  If not, however," he backed up and projected a Barrier around the bombs, "I can at least contain the explosion and minimize the damage... though the engines would be lost."

Quickie glanced over her shoulder toward the corridor.  "Honestly, I'm surprised Mewtwo isn't up yet.  He must've been really exhausted..."  She decided to use the distraction as a cover and make her way back to their compartment.  Mewtwo could disarm the bombs safely, but he needs to be awake.  Pausing just inside the engine room, Quickie concentrated, trying to send a message.

In the compartment, Mewtwo's eyes snapped open.  He got up and hurried to engineering.

Sitting around unfinished is a first-person MM game using the Wolf3D engine and sprites with a similar look to Superadventure Rockman.  Most of the character artwork is finished, there is still a lot of textures and coding to work on, but there's at least one boss battle that is somewhat playable.  The project was always a "work on it when we feel like it," so it may never be finished.

And someone made a Robot Master deathmatch Doom mod, and we gave up on our Wolf3D mod.  The Doom mod used 8-bit sprites.  Existing 8-bit sprites, whereas our Wolf3D mod is almost entirely custom.

Even with a different engine, people find a way to be lazy.

Quickie took a few steps forward, ready to remove a detonator when she stopped.  "I'm not touching those.  If we're to remove them, we need to do it safely, and not touch the things.  Just by removing them, we could set them off!"  She folded her arms. "I've seen enough action movies, I know the tropes."

Again, a person can only be helped if they want to be helped.  If they don't think there's a problem, then they really can't be helped.  The most you can do is show them the consequences of their actions, and even then, they may still think that everyone is "picking on them."

My dad never thought that he had a drinking problem, and he would often mix alcohol with drugs.  He is convinced that the police and court systems simply don't like him because he "has dirt on them," or some such crap.  He thinks that they're treating him badly because he knows stuff about them that would cause them to lose their jobs.  It never once occurred to him that his problem was drugs and alcohol.  Never once.

And then there's my mom, who is working to get her diagnosis of bipolar overturned.  When she hits all the diagnostic criteria with a sledgehammer and then some.  When her manic moments and extreme mood swings have gotten her in trouble with the law.  When she has a history of delusional behavior and psychotic symptoms.  And she refuses to take her medication because she doesn't want it taking away her "highs," even though she is mean and nasty, manipulative, and downright abusive.

I may not have a degree in psychology, though I did take the time to study the condition and become versed in the diagnostic criteria.  If my mom manages to fool a psychiatrist, then that person is an idiot, though I cannot fully blame them, as they haven't any access to my mom's history.

They should give me a call.  I have enough anecdotal evidence for a book.

In the engine room, Quickie just stared blankly at the detonators and slowly backed away.  Once again, someone was after Mewtwo.  She reached behind her and felt for the latch as she flashed a lopsided smile.  "Well, that's all well and good and stuff, but if you blew up the engine room and we all went down, you'd be going with us, now wouldn't you."  Her mind raced as she tried to stall for time, in case Steiner had another way to set off the explosives.  "Oh, and, if the ship crashes or blows up, you'll lose Mewtwo."

Sadly, unless the person wants to be helped, there isn't much else to do.  Aside from allow them to rack up charges.  My dad's latest drunken folly netted him house arrest.

I found a polyphemus moth this evening.



They're big, fuzzy moths.



Of course, none of these images are of the moth I found, but they're of the same species of moth.  My moth clung to my fingers as I carried it to the woods to let it go.  Big and fuzzy.

Quickie shook her head.  "If the signal drastically changes, they'll know.  The thing is, these devices most likely send out a signal to a satellite.  That signal is updated on a regular basis.  Say, it's updated every hour.  Now, Hour One, the signal transmits from Cerulean City," she started pantomiming, "and the next hour, it's an hour's flight south.  The next hour, it's still on its southerly course.  Now, if we tampered with it and the next hour, the signal is transmitting on an eastbound course somewhere in Hoenn, the recipient will know that something is up.  Thus," she put her hands down, "we can't tamper with it without raising alarm."

On the other end of the connection, Agent 21 turned away from his communicator and looked to Slade. "Agent 54 stopped responding."

"Then close the bloody connection!" Slade snapped.  "Don't just sit there and keep asking who it is!"

"Gotcha," Agent 21 ended the communique and closed the connection.

As someone who grew up in an alcoholic household, I sympathize.  Though my dad would get shitfaced, it was my mom who was the violent one.  But, that's due to unresolved bipolar disorder and her complete and utter refusal to seek any sort of treatment.  Alcohol certainly didn't help matters in that regard.

Keeping your father out of the house was the right thing to do.  Have you considered calling the cops and charging him for public intoxication and disorderly conduct?  Even though the incident happened on your property, your dad can still be charged.
