Roleplay / Re: RPM POKEMON ADVENTURE THING
« on: July 13, 2013, 09:03:31 AM »
Back in the Center, Mewtwo raised an eyebrow.  So, they had come to the same conclusion as he did.  The surge was indeed involuntary.  Though, would there be a way to replicate it?  Standing, Mewtwo moved to the pile of discs and sorted through them, selecting the ones in the best condition.  None of them were labelled, and he had trouble reading handwriting, so unless there were dates written on them, he still would not know what was on each disc.  Placing his palm flat on the disc, he took a moment to trace whatever lingering psychic imprint may be on it, trying to discern a source.

After a few moments, he tried another disc.  Then another.  And still another.  Around the sixth attempt, he found the disc that he was looking for and he set it aside.  Sorting through the pile, Mewtwo selected another disc, this one showing considerable wear.  He placed his palm flat on it and traced it.

An image of a young green-haired girl flashed in his mind with such intensity that he dropped the disc.  Shaking his head to clear it, Mewtwo picked up the disc and reminded himself to peruse its contents later.  First, he needed to see something...

Back at his computer, he ejected the other disc and set it aside, inserting the new disc.  This one, thankfully, was not password-protected, as it seemed to have been made in haste.  Browsing the contents, Mewtwo found very few items on it, mostly pertaining to whatever data that Team Rocket had acquired on him.  But, sure enough, those brain scans were saved.  As was something else...

A video log... of his regeneration.  Mewtwo opened the video and watched it.  It was recorded shortly after his capture, after he had been transported to the base, after that poor, wretched Alakazam had dealt focused damage.  Domino was narrating the event, even keeping two assistants away until the regeneration was complete and the video showed him inhaling sharply.

The regeneration was an involuntary surge of psychic energy, intended as a last-resort defense mechanism.  Just as that Alakazam's Disable had been.

Mewtwo closed the video and copied the brain scans onto his computer, and ejected the disc, putting in the other disc he had found.  Inputting the password, he searched it for video logs and opened the archive.  Scanning through, he found a number of video logs with the name "Amber" in the file description.  Why did Wily have this?  Did he know someone named Amber?

Closing the folder, he ejected the disc and put in the one that the Pikachu had retrieved for him.  He opened and reviewed the logs that he had watched prior.  Was there anything else?  Why did Wily suddenly not remember the Alakazam?  Who took his memories and how?

Mewtwo looked to the dwarf Pikachu and invited it back on the bench, indicating the list of video logs.  "Am I missing something?  I have the beginnings of a plan, but I feel that I am missing something..."

Back in the Center, Mewtwo studied the video.  So, this one was about his own creation.  Curious, he selected a later video log.

Though, the discussion of the incident with the Alakazam...  Was Disable that psychic surge?  If so, why didn't that poor creature attempt it prior?  Why did it seem so... involuntary?  Was it that Disable at that level of power involuntary?  Mewtwo thought about that as he selected another video from a later date.  Perhaps these later logs will provide more information...

Mewtwo took the disc and examined it, then made the same motion to open the slot, ejecting the previous disc.  He slid the older disc inside and placed both hands on the interface, scanning the disc's contents.  "Also... there should be a new disc somewhere.  It, if I recall, contains data on scans that Team Rocket had performed on me.  If you could find that one, I wish to see it..." he trailed off as he furrowed his brow.  "I need to hack this one, too."  As a test, he tried the password that gained him access to the previous disc, surprised to find that it worked. "Well..."

After a several minutes of scanning folder contents, he searched for video files and brought up the archive.  Selecting a file at random, Mewtwo played it...

It was super-effective! 8D

On another note, the concert down the road set off fireworks, and it's a two-day concert, so I'll be hearing more country music and comforting Mabel when they shoot off more fireworks. :|

Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Center...

Mewtwo stared blankly at the computer screen, then replayed the log labeled 0701C.  He stopped the footage and replayed it again, this time slowing the framerate.  "...There!"  He paused the video on the wave of psychic energy.  "Right there!"  The wave had burst forth the very second that the skullcap was removed.

Mewtwo raised an eyebrow, his mind branching towards various conclusions for what he had witnessed.  Was that wave emitted voluntarily?  Was it an involuntary action, much like how his regeneration supposedly is?  Was it a defense mechanism?  Did the Alakazam have a motive?  But, Wily's personality changed afterward... Did the Alakazam do this intentionally?  Would hitting Wily with another burst of energy work?  What kind of energy?  Would directing a Psywave toward Wily work?  Would it solve the problem?  Would it kill the man?

Mewtwo took one hand off the interface and rubbed his brow.  He had used a Psywave against humans before, most notably when he had first made his escape.  The surge of energy had killed a number of people.

What made this Psywave different?  Couldn't the Alakazam have used it to begin with?  Mewtwo replayed the video sequence a few times, slowing the framerate and studying other elements within the scene.  No, that Alakazam was clearly heavily sedated.  He couldn't detect any eye movement, from what little he could see under the drapes.  There were plenty of opportunities for the Alakazam to react, prior to being strapped down, prior to being sedated, prior to its head being shaved, prior to the initial incision...

That massive burst of psychic energy occurred only when the skullcap was removed and the brain exposed.

Mewtwo stared at the footage for a very long moment.  He then looked to the dwarf Pikachu.  "Could you bring me the other discs?  One of them may have clues that I seek."

After a tense several minutes, Mewtwo simply could not watch any more of it and he closed the video, shaking his head slowly. Though, he did notice something... a change in Wily's countenance during the procedure.  The man had jerked backwards, as if he were hit by something, and one of his assistants had to grab his arm.  They had briefly discussed the matter before continuing, at which point Mewtwo could not stomach the rest of it.

He scrolled through a few more videos, selecting another at random.  This one was proceeded by text that he could read, and a voice-over that further clarified the words.  The video was a demonstration of the Alakazam's abilities, with cuts to show the computer display, and Wily inputting various commands.  As the video progressed, Mewtwo could not help but notice how pleased Wily was with each demonstration.  Closing the video, Mewtwo scanned through the listing and selected one that bore a label which he could not read.

The video was slow to start, and it was at an uncomfortable and shaky angle, as Wily was apparently holding the camera to his face.  He spoke with a strange whisper and his eyes seemed... off.  The tone of his voice was... off.  Everything about the video seemed somehow very wrong

Mewtwo adjusted the volume of the video and listened intently.  Perhaps this video would tell him what he needed to know...

Mewtwo noticed the Pikachu's curiosity and made room on the bench for the dwarf Pokemon to jump up beside him. "This may become... difficult to watch..."  He trailed off as the video progressed, and he could hear the conversations between the scientists, though muffled by their masks.  The amount of hardware used and the drapes disturbed him further, as he could no longer see the Alakazam's face, coupled with the notion that Team Rocket at one point wanted to do the same thing to him.  He swallowed and dispelled that thought quickly.

Back at the Center...

After some tedium and frustration, Mewtwo finally cracked the password and forced his way into the data on the disc that the dwarf Pikachu retrieved from Wily's belongings.  Thankfully, his limited literacy skills were not too much of a hindrance, and he had a text-to-speech program that he had written himself for things that he was still struggling with.  The majority of the user interface was based on the usage of his powers, so long as he maintained contact with the dashboard's touch pads.  It was a complicated system, but it met his needs, so he wasn't in a hurry to change it.

Scanning through the data, Mewtwo looked through various files and project information, containing serial numbers that didn't make much sense, or names that he simply could not read.  There were a few items that stood out to him, namely "bioinformatics," and "genetics."  He reminded himself to peruse those contents later and continued searching the data.

After a while, he happened upon something that was both foreign, yet familiar... a project folder entitled AC-065-Σ.  Mewtwo felt his chest tighten as he accessed the folder's contents.  Several more folders greeted him, along with a massive list of documentation.  As he was only functionally literate, he made a note to run those documents through his text-to-speech software and began to peruse the folders.  Mostly, they contained more documentation and a number of image files.  Various graphs and charts were displayed, along with their own documentation.  Though, there was one folder that caught his eye.

The video records.

Mewtwo's pulse quickened as he opened the folder and was greeted by a library of archival video footage.  There were so many videos!  Each one with a date and time attached to it.  Selecting one of the earlier videos, Mewtwo opened it and played it.

His heart skipped several beats as he watched Wily and a few other scientists whom he could not identify shave an Alakazam's head.  The video progressed until Mewtwo quickly averted his gaze as he heard the whirring of the bone saw.  His breath caught in his throat, he glanced at the dwarf Pikachu, sitting on the floor adjacent from him, watching with wide eyes.  Mewtwo grimaced and shook his head.  "You should not see this..."  He reluctantly returned his gaze to the video and adjusted himself and the screen so the Pikachu could not see.

Knee joints could have been worked in much in the same was as the joints in the base of his tail.  Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the figure.  Currently, I have him in a flying pose before I decide to repose him doing something else.

I don't have much experience with figma knees, as the only high-end figure I have currently is Mewtwo.  Though, his elbow joints are really nice.

And speaking of 6" figures...

Looking very nice...  I may actually pre-order that.

I've only seen the Batman and Joker figures, with those wonky knees.  I think a couple Revoltech figures had Play Arts Kai knees, if I recall.  I mean, double-hinged knee joints are great, but... wow.

Now with slippers and a buckle weenie!

Though, it also has something that I've found interesting in figures; articulated clothing.  There's a Batman figma with an articulated cape.  One one hand, it seems clunky, but on the other hand, it's awesome.

Continually dragging me away from the computer to help with things that he could do much faster on his own, trying to talk me into doing things while I'm half asleep, putting his nose in matters he shouldn't be concerned in, etc.

Blargh.

Have you tried telling him to butt out, or is this not an option?

Quickie stifled a giggle.  She may be an adult, but her humor was clearly that of a teenager.  Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward, putting herself between Janine and Wily, all the while digging out her badge to show to Janine.  "Hey, time out!  You guys can't fight around here!"  She looked to Wily.  "Besides, he tripped.  Can't fault someone for being clumsy."

Meanwhile, back in the Center...

Mewtwo blinked, sat up slowly, and finally pulled himself to his feet.  That Chansey's song was potent, as he had slept quite well.  Yawning, he rubbed his eyes and got a drink of water.  Busying himself with digging through Quickie's backpack, he pulled out his computer and contemplated doing some work, since he had the opportunity.  That recombination software wasn't going to update itself.

Though, he stopped.  There was that feeling again... that sense of utter wrong... and even despair...  Tucking his computer under one arm, Mewtwo quietly left the room and went down the hall to Wily's room.  The door was locked, but it didn't require much effort to override it.  Slipping inside, Mewtwo looked around.  He placed his computer on the desk, then sniffed the air.  Even the air smelled wrong.  And that odd rustling noise...

Tracking the noise, Mewtwo opened the nightstand drawer and found a Poke Ball stashed inside.  The locking mechanism was destroyed.  Mewtwo raised an eyebrow and placed the ball on the floor before him, swiping his arm and destroying the ball, releasing a disheveled and frightened dwarf Pikachu.

The Pikachu immediately clung to his ankle and looked up at him, blurting out the events that had transpired that led to its entrapment.  Mewtwo reached down and placed his hand on the creature's head to calm it, then resumed his investigation.  "There was something... different about Wily," he said to no one in particular, "though, I cannot be certain what exactly it is... or how to find out what it is..."

The Pikachu gave a curt nod, released Mewtwo's ankle and bounded over to Wily's bag.  It took hold of the bag's flap with its teeth and toppled it, burrowing inside and retrieving various items, mostly discs.  With one disc in its mouth, it returned to Mewtwo.  "Pi!"

Mewtwo took the disc, then looked to his computer.  "You believe that we may find out more, if we were to access the contents of this?"

The dwarf Pikachu nodded. "Chu."

Mewtwo stood and took the disc to his computer.  With a wave of his hand, a separation formed in the tablet and it opened like a clamshell, revealing a screen and a dashboard that had no discernable user interface aside from an array of large touch pads.  Mewtwo made a motion at the side of the computer, opening an aperature, in which he inserted the disc.  "This may take time," he nodded to the Pikachu as he placed both hands on the interface, "as it may be protected, which I would then need to override.  But... we shall see..."

For the sake of poor Pika, I may have Mewtwo do some investigating later on.  After his nap, of course.  And preferably before anyone returns.  Maybe even have him pull out his computer and do some stuff with it?

Though, having evil Wily happen upon Mewtwo's snooping might make for some interesting developments...
