(Go for it.  Quickie is considering just grabbing anyone who passed the BAR at this point, regardless if they have experience.)

After another officer beckoned her out into the hallway, Quickie stood there, backpack slung over one shoulder, waiting.  She cast her glance down the hall, wondering if should at the very least see Mewtwo before she left, even though she couldn't talk to him.  Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, Quickie concentrated, sending a brief message. "I'll be leaving here, soon.  I wanted to let you know.  We're looking for a lawyer.  Good night and keep safe."

In the holding cell, Mewtwo's ear flicked.  He gave a slow nod, but otherwise declined to respond.

Hearing the conversation out in the hallway, Quickie gathered her things and slammed the phonebook closed with an aggrivated sigh.  She was starting to wonder if she shouldn't just call a local law school and see if they have anyone who was ready to take on a case.

Mewtwo could hear the tirade loud and clear in the holding cell, and he cringed.

Even the guards cringed.  One of them glanced over his shoulder. "She really needs a day off."

"More like a year," the other muttered under his breath.

"As for that request," the first guard looked to Mewtwo, "we'll see what we can do.  Aside from your one outburst, you've been pretty cooperative."

"Yeah," the other guard nodded, "just keep calm, let your friends handle it, and don't get yourself into any more trouble."

Mewtwo nodded to them and turned his gaze to the graffiti-scarred wall for a long moment.  He idly wondered what time it was.  The day seemed to drag after the incident, and he had lost track of the time since he was arrested and imprisoned.  There were no windows in the cell, so he could not see the sun's position in the sky, if it was even still up.

Work doesn't lend to a lot of casual interaction, at least from my experience.  Then again, I rarely talked to anyone.  I just did my job and that was that.  I wasn't there to make friends, I was there to work.

Speaking of control woes, BYOND is slow as hell at times, I have to add macros for some of the controls (many games require a number pad, and my USB number pad doesn't do the job), and there's an odd sensitivity on the controls that I don't have to add.  Sometimes, the controls have a slight delay, or they're overly sensitive.  It's annoying, but you eventually get used to it.

I still like BYOND.  Glad I downloaded it.

In the holding cell, after a moment to subtly scan the activity outside, Mewtwo looked to Ryuta. "I would like to make a suggestion.  From what I was able to discern, this building has staff and equipment capable of performing any needed examination.  If that is indeed the case, why not delay the transfer and simply do what they need to do here?  If there is no need to transfer me to the Pokemon Institute," Mewtwo glanced at the guards for a moment, then returned his gaze, "then why should they go through the trouble?"

He paused and glanced at the door again, taking a moment to "see" what was outside. "What I am saying is... could I perhaps request to stay here?"

Earlier today, I did a quick read of a brief exchange from the translation.  Holy [parasitic bomb], nothing sounded natural, Mewtwo talks in circles, and Giovanni's just as bad.  There were perhaps a few lines that were okay, but they had only four or five words in them, and a line that short is a bit hard to make sound entirely awkward.  The rest of them, though?  Rewrite, rewrite, rewrite!

I'll start on that tomorrow.  Should be mind-numbing fun.

Domino stepped in front of James, holding up both hands, palms outward.  "Easy, easy, calm down.  You're in my office."  She took a moment to move her stuff off of the other chair, unceremoniously dumping the stack of papers and books on the floor beside it.  "Take a seat."  Digging through another stack of items, she fished out a roll of paper towels and tossed it to James.  "Dry off, while you're at it."

Domino stepped out of her office for a moment to let Joe inside when she noticed James sprawled out on the floor.  "Nice of you to drop in."  She looked to Joe.  "Give me a hand here," she took James's arms and nodded for Joe to grab his legs so that they could get him into the office and out of the hall.

If someone on house arrest needs to go to the store, they are permitted to do so.  The process involves listing places where the person would normally need to go, such as to the store to get groceries.  The ankle bracelet itself is a GPS unit, and as long as it leads to the store, then that's fine.  Otherwise, when the person goes outside of the allowed areas, then it logs it and the cops will investigate.

Ankle bracelets don't necessarily "go off" as they do log information.

Domino shook her head. "I think you misunderstood me.  We can't clone Mewtwo using its DNA.  You know what they say when you make a copy of a copy... it doesn't turn out quite as sharp."  She paused for a moment. "I'm talking about this Shadow Pokemon business.  Giovanni has been in talks with Cipher, and I think he's making a big mistake, but hell if he'll listen to me.  I mean, fine, go ahead with this plan.  But, I really don't feel comfortable with it..."

She stood, walked away for a moment to stare at the wall.  Her shoulders slumped as she sighed, then she turned around and approached Meowth again.  "I'm just going to come right out and say it.  I think turning Mewtwo into a Shadow Pokemon is a really bad idea.  While I'm not about to lose my job, I think we should at the very least delay the inevitable.  Will you help me do that?  If we win the trial, Giovanni can do whatever he wants.  But, if we tamper with Mewtwo now... we may screw not only our chances... but everything."

Her eyes narrowed. "I don't think anyone would survive when Mewtwo unleashes its full power, in an absolute blind rage.  I don't know about you, but I like living."

Domino nodded. "Let's just say that you guys have been upping your game since the first time we met.  Not quite elite agent material, but not as dismal, either."  She looked back to Meowth. "Giovanni wants to know how Mewtwo made those clones, and I'm hoping to use that to delay the procedure."

She pushed her chair back as she stood and began to walk around the office. "Look, I want Mewtwo back in our custody as much as the next guy.  It's our property, simple as that.  But, Giovanni's taken a gamble on its life once before and we almost lost it on Mount Quena.  If this is another one of his gambles, I'm not sure how to feel about that.  On one hand, we'd have an out-of-control Pokemon that refuses to obey, and uses its destructive powers against us and everyone else, leaving Giovanni's world domination a smoking ruin.  On the other hand... the procedure could kill it."

Domino paused and crouched beside the chair to look Meowth in the eye. "Mewtwo is very valuable and a lot of money and time went into its creation.  We lack the resources to make another, and using its genetic material would result in an unstable clone of a clone.  It could take years, and the end result might be plagued with so many abnormalities that it wouldn't survive, let alone be as powerful.  It would be a waste to kill Mewtwo.  A waste of time, a waste of money, and a waste of a very powerful creature."

She paused again, dropping her gaze for a moment. "I want you to help me.  However you can, whatever you can think of, we need to delay this project for as long as possible, preferrably until the start of the trial.  Once Mewtwo begins the trial, we can't touch it.  Problem is, this could take a while to even get to that point.  So, as a fellow agent of Team Rocket," she fixed Meowth in her gaze again, "are you willing to do what's right for your team?"

Domino nodded slowly.  "Right now, its clones are not my concern.  We have no plans for them, we never expected them to show up, so really, I don't know what we're doing with them, aside from using them as bait to get Mewtwo to cooperate."  She sighed, stood, checked the door, then returned to her desk.  After a moment, she fixed Meowth in a stare, her expression that of a concern he had never seen.

"Giovanni wasn't straight with me concerning his plans.  He's been in talks with Cipher concerning this Shadow Pokemon project.  Basically, he wants to submit Mewtwo to that process, to ensure its loyalty.  The problem is," she dropped her voice, "Mewtwo would be battling at full capacity.  Honestly, I don't think we'll be able to control it then.  It's held back before.  I don't want to see what happens when it doesn't hold back.  It would be like trying to leash a nuclear blast."

Domino sat back. "And while I've told Dr. Yeung not to use our agents as test subjects... he's taken a... liking to you.  Wants to know how you learned to talk.  Possibly perform the Shadow Pokemon procedure on you, first, to see how it would affect a talking Pokemon."  She sighed again.  "So, keep on your toes."

She looked to her computer again. "I hate that I was kept in the dark about this..."

Mewtwo nodded and was silent for a moment before finally speaking. "I suspect... that some... questionable things may happen to me at the Pokemon Institute.  The other officer particularly, she claimed that whatever they do to me there would be punishment enough.  Would that not be tampering with evidence?  Am I not evidence?"


The assistant led Meowth down the hall and to an office, opening the door, letting him pass by, then closing the door.

In the office, Domino sat behind a desk, looking at something on her computer.  The office was casually untidy, with papers strewn about and an overall used look, as opposed to Giovanni's opulent office.  After a moment, Domino looked to Meowth, then nodded to the only chair that did not have books or a coat stacked on it. "Have a seat.  And, the door's shut, right?  I don't want any of this getting out."

After a few minutes, one of Dr. Yeung's assistants came to the room, opening the door. "Meowth?   Follow me, please.  Your presence is requested."

Yeung seemed to be crestfallen.  He stopped in front of a door and pointed inside. "The clones and your Meowth are in here."

Domino peered into the window, seeing Meowth pace nervously from Poke Ball to Poke Ball, pausing to offer some words to the clones inside.  She backed away from the window and looked to Yeung.  "Have Meowth taken to my office.  I'd like to speak with him."  She looked to Joe. "You can get your autograph, then.  I have plenty of pens and paper."  She turned and headed down the hall, en route to her office to call Giovanni, finish paperwork, and give this project some serious thought.
