Well, I like the Beta version, but it doesn't sound quite like a stage theme somehow; lacks a solid rhythm, I think.

I vaguely recall you guys liking Recettear so figured this was worth bringing up. Though it's not related, except for being translated by the same guys and being about kawaii anime girls having even more kawaii adventures.

It's a platformer action RPG; you cut and magic your way through dungeons, solving puzzles, gaining xp and items etc. There's a party system that lets you customize how your (extremely kawaii) friends act in combat, or you can just control them directly.

I liked what I saw in the demo. Combat was tricky to do perfectly but not overly punishing, though you do get more healing items than you really need if you take care to explore. Items are expensive and XP gain slow, but the equipment and levels make a big difference, so it's a "big jumps infrequently" sort of deal.

If you can get over such a sickeningly sweet tone as Recettear had, definitely give it a try.

How do you define bad stage design anyway? Never played X7 myself.

Hmm... if Zelda 1 follows after LA, could it be the same Link? Would make sense if he lost even his sword, considering the ending.

Could be fun. Tagline of "Do you really wish life was more like videogames?" and is about a guy called Glitch who starts experiencing glitches in real life.

I wonder how many of the times when Capcom gave in to the fans it turned out profitable?

Anyway, my point is that gamers who know of megaman and don't care for him will continue to do so until they're essentially tricked into playing a megaman game, which won't happen if his name is on the cover.

He needs a change of name, is what he needs.

I've just got my first sword upgrade, and I have to say flying has gotten old. Does it change at all, mechanics-wise? In WW you could use items to various effects, and in TP horse-back combat was a big deal. Attacking with the bird dash is awkward as hell though I never seem to get hit, and it takes ages (like 10 seconds) to kill any given target.
Simply flying across the featureless landscape isn't very exciting either, like WW (in TP I really enjoyed seeing the landscape rush past).

Real demo now available. Controls are tight as hell and you can customize if you want toggle/hold missiles or 1-button diagonal aim, it's awesome. Feels better than some real metroid games I've played.

So xnam and I were chatting in IRC about gameplay ideas. I'll leave him to his so I don't misrepresent anything; mine was basically that instead of getting specific upgrades after defeating each boss, you'd get some sort of points that you can spend on abilities of your choosing. As a result, you get to choose the order you deal with areas.
Energy/missile tanks would be kept separate of this system so players don't accidentally lock themselves out by not getting any new abilities.
