R9 furthered the storyline and deepened the series a lot.
I don't feel it furthered the storyline much. Storyline remains where it was before, even if we now have an important moral question in there. Now if we had seen more of what characters thought of the whole issue, that'd be character development.

Also, those older graphics have an immense beauty in their simplicity. For this time, the return to the old brought about immense nostalgia, charm, amazingly stylish music and most of all, to the point fun gameplay.
Werrlll... I do prefer the NES sprite of Mega to any other I've seen. Perhaps because it's more generic, and lets you see what you want to see, while the detailed SNES versions make him kinda dorky.
But the gameplay, too simplistic. Shallow, even. Devoid of depth, providing only breadth with the robot master weapons.
Also I dunno if breadth is a real word.

And the cutscene art of the Elpis fight.

Um, yes, of course, but he's saying he doesn't enjoy them much because of their failing story..

Cute. That's all I'll give it.

I would prefer if the games furthered the storyline, but I'll buy them regardless as long as I still enjoy playing them.

After MM9 I've found that that last is wearing mighty thin.

Oh man that brings back memories of Ducktales 2's desert level.

It's not, don't be spreading nonsense and bring up some real arguments.

You know, that Axl sprite is kinda lazy. It's a recolored X3 Zero with details like hair and pistol changed.

And I wanted a MMZ spin-off feat. Guardians :(

Funny I thought it was quality over quantity but I guess that is not the case in writing.
Well, it's just a more stupid way of saying "practice makes perfect".

What about it? 90% of everything is still crap.

Read this study some arts class professor did, see. He had 2 classes - one was instructed that the quality of the one ceramic bowl they made would be the basis of their grade for the course, while the other that the number of bowls they made would be the basis.
By the end of the year, the second group was producing bowls of higher quality than the bowls the first group had put all their effort into.

Actually, when I was still taking fencing lessons, there was the occasional time when I was up against someone at exactly the same skill level as me, and those times were by far the most fun and exciting - I could easily see bonding with my opponent post-duel if it weren't for the way it was set up, everyone switching around after a victor is declared.

Pixy-Soft should animate the next ZX game's cutscenes.  Or Lilith.  Whatever that animation team is called.
You taught them everything you know?

X6 and Xtreme2 want a word with you.
Yeah....
I'd say X4 X5 were the low points of his playable career, at least if we're talking about playability.

X / Re: What Would Make X3 a Truly Great Game
« on: March 28, 2009, 10:57:55 PM »
this is part of the problem. the vibe i get from a lot of replies is that i hate this game. that couldn't be further from the truth. X3 is a great game. i just feel it was weaker than the two games before it. and it didn't have to be.
Well, even then I've got a problem with the thread. I'll happily admit that X3 had faults, and even specify a bunch, but...
So did the first two (and all following). It happened to become one of the games I like the most (in the X series) regardless.

I'm torn on the bosses. It's very satisfying to be able to just "own" them with barely a fight, but on the other hand, no challenge - no fun.
Vaguely recall having a super hard time with them the very first time I played and didn't use their weaknesses, but then I was young and inexperienced back then.
