The lack of L-dash is missed in Xtreme2 but it's nowhere near as big a problem as it was in Xtreme1 since you're going to be airdashing everywhere anyway, because airdashing looks so cool in 2 for some reason I can't put my finger on. Maybe it's the small sprites looking really solid.

Blaze Heatnix's BGM and Final Sigma theme.
The terribleness of Ground Scaravich almost makes up for all that though.

Zero died in the very place Wily himself was omnipresent, the same place where Dr. Right took material form and saved X from a similar fate, the same place where Zero's body mysteriously vanished to leave nothing but the Z-saber behind.This could've gone any number of ways other than what X6 established though..

We haven't used the Z biometal, but it looked more powerful than Zero was, albeit lacking a ranged weapon.
X biomerged can move and double charge shot at the same time, so that's an upgrade - but as you say, no weapon copy. Also, no airdash, nor armor upgrades or other customizable items.
Big4 is hard to say as we haven't played as the originals, and we only get copy/double rock on variants - copy H/Hx certainly can't fly as much as Harpuia, P can't do much in the ways of illusion or trickery, F doesn't seem to have as much raw power... not sure about L. Spinning halberd would've been a useful trick.

Not sure. Most recent hard mode that I liked was Commando difficulty in Bionic Commando - the enemies missed less, reacted faster, spawned immediately instead of being delayed (without there actually being more of them total), and generally gave you almost no leeway.
It suited me very well after having played through the game and knowing how to fight every enemy, though I learned a few new tricks even so.
