Would anyone mind a few matches with me in the next half hour or so? Granted it's not my game, I may as well have some fun with my bro's Gold version.

I think I'm going to be getting both versions of Colors at this rate. I'm really interested in the DS version though, more Rush based gameplay with tighter level design? Yes please. Now get Hideki Naganuma in this [sonic slicer]! XD

I'm in the mind that anything can be good if given the chance... except rap. There is no such thing as good rap. Ever.

Urge to prove this wrong rising, however not at adequate levels. So I'll say this, you aren't doing it (your first quoted statement) right.

My girlfriend introduced me to her. Never liked japanese modern music, but she, Yoko and a few from the same circle are the exception so far. Really good music.

Very huge sidetrack here, but what's your opinion on Mayumi Kojima? She's pretty awesome in my opinion. I was introduced to her after needing to find the song that played in that old Super Mario Advance 4 commercial and downloading the entire album (Me & My Monkey on The Moon) with said song (Hatsukoi) on it.

Another thing I really liked about MK64 although I don't know anyone who really uses it a lot is the fact that when you are launched or smacked with any really potent item, you can tap A while in the air so that when you've recovered, you haven't lost all of your speed. In some occasions, doing this right actually nets you a start up at near top speed. My mind was blown years after the fact when I first discovered this and it still leads me to believe that the designers for MK64 knew what balancing was all about.

Oh I know this one, it's always the same two people for the whole cup too ^^;

XD

Nothing like picking Toad and knowing that Yoshi & Peach would ALWAYS be tailing your ass. XD

Whatever happens in the next Mario Kart, Rainbow Road better be as dramatically long as the N64 variant (it's the champion's raceway after all, give me some challenge) and as creative as Rolling Coaster Galaxy from Galaxy 2. Also, I kinda want to dissect another annoying mechanic in the latter MK games. I hate when you get bumped off the level and you get this fade to black transition when there's clearly land under you. Some of the most fun you could get from MK64 was smashing someone over a railing on levels like Toad's Turnpike or Rainbow Road only to smack them into the outer oblivion, or if they're REALLY unlucky, to an earlier section of the course. I understand the transition is to prevent whole scale level skips like that classic jump in N64 Rainbow Road, but man, sometimes fixing the small things can ruin/damper the cool unexpected things.

It's because they use similar synths and that whistling sound a lot. Compare Mario Kart 64, which had a good variety of different styles (Toad's Turnpike, Frappe Snowland, Koopa Troopa Beach, Bowser's Castle, Rainbow Road)

I think you picked the absolute best compositions from Mario Kart 64 in this post. Other games series (forget kart racers for a second) would kill for the composition quality of these tracks. (Sidenote, I'm a hopeless Toad's Turnpike fanboy. XD)

Well in 64, the levels were so huge that 3 tracks could take a while.  However, I can agree that you should be able to set laps to as high as 5 or as low as 1 when racing against friends.  Again, options are never a bad thing.

That's another thing, bring back the larger and greater distance levels! I miss having to work for that 1st on long stretches of awesome level. In the newer games, it just feels like matches begin and end all too suddenly. I was happy when MKWii brought back wider courses, but what's the point if they're only accommodating more people for the same amount of time? On the subject of level design though, I long for a Mario Kart that takes a cue or two from Sonic R where players have one standard route or map with a few well placed shortcuts or alternate routes they can take. The longer the shortcut, the harder it would be to access them, catch on to them or skillfully maneuver through them.

As for engine classes, I'm game for a 200/250cc class. Mario Kart being crazy fast? Yes please! XD

Just wanted to chime in and say that this is the most excellent Mario Kart mechanics discussion I've seen in years. If I had anything to add, I'd make a mention on how the terrible bump physics of MKWii did a lot more to hinder older fans while introducing newer fans to a very questionable design choice. You guys have already done a great job of covering that though.

We'll still need to see alot more of the console's titles before we judge that, as well as gameplay. But I'm confident it's at least as powerful as a PS2.

Honestly, I think it's closer to a Gamecube but with more modern tricks on the GPU side, allowing it to be efficient, cheap, and boast excellent graphics.

609
You guys I'm so happy.

So goddamn happy that I'm actually getting emotional about E3.

THIS IS WHY I DONT WATCH THE ENTIRE THING

I was wondering where your Zelda crazy self was during the Nintendo conference on Tuesday. XD

Seriously, I love the redesigned characters so much. On a unrelated note, it'd be a damn shame if they put that much effort into re-imagining Pit, Palutena & Medusa and in the next Smash all 3 weren't playable. XD

That said, bring on Uprising. I'll be here trying to master Kid Icarus 1 on VC in the meantime.

611
And it can't come quickly enough!

BTW have you seen the capabilities of the 3DS? Snake Eater looks easily just as good as its PS2 counterpart. At some point even better.

The scary part is that they whipped up that demo in 2 months. With only 2 months worth of dev time, the matched/slightly exceeded what it took them 4 or 5 years of PS2 developing to create. The 3DS is beastly, imagine what'll happen when folks start pushing it harder?

612
Portal 2 on PS3... Well it gives me an option, but I was already playing it on the PC currently. :P

I love this game's style soooo much. Please just try your best to be a really good game. Not a hearkening back or overambitious project.

614
Metroid at most. I was hoping for a new Star Fox that's back to the boots (and on a console, not a handheld) and a new F-Zero.

I don't really care about Donkey Kong, Kirby and Kid Icarus (I didn't even know the guy until he appeared in Brawl).

Well damn, this release list would have pepped you up if you didn't say console...

Also I dare ANYONE to read that and be able to contain themselves after wards.

So you liked Metroid, Star Fox seems to be pretty good and according to the Kid Icarus graphics, it's gonna LOOK good. And wait for F-Zero, you never know. Maybe on TGS.

It's funny. What I predicted, happened. =P First criticism about the show, everyone loves and everyone jumps on the guy at the same time. XD See now what I was talking about yesterday? =P

I loved the show. Still haven't got my original IP, but they did pretty well. At least now we can expect a ton of stuff, as opposed to one or two upcoming great games. And they seem to have all of their studios working, so no complaint for me. Nintendo outdid themselves this time.

Honestly, I was just surprised. Like in the sense that there was just SOOO MUCH and to be disappointed was kinda like "huh" for me. XD

615
So, best E3 conference this year or best ever?

2010 is the new 2006. LONG LIVE 2010!

Seriously, Nintendo gave us games, and then they even went and gave us gif material! XD

So [tornado fang]ing disappointed... what have I done wrong Nintendo? Did I not buy enough GameCube games?

You are a sad and strange person. NOTHING there even moderately interested you?

I'm not even sure what game I'm excited about more right now.

I'm more curious about those titles that were on the big screen but were totally bypassed thanks to us being in total "WAT" mode. XD

616
KID & PUNISHMENT. MINE.

Nintendo is busting chops right now.

617
VIEWABLE 3D PHOTOS. [tornado fang].

AND 3D MOVIES NOW? WOOOOOOOOOW

618
They're great, aren't they?

[tornado fang]ing YEA! 8D

619
[tornado fang] YEA GOLDEN SUN: DARK DAWN.

620
So I'm suffering from a critical amount of over hype right now and need to fix that. Anyone up for some online Brawl or Mario Kart Wii? XD

I'd make the announcements in the respective threads but I figure I have a better chance of catching folks in here.

621
By the way, what are we expecting for the Nintendo conference? Two whole hours, so... um... post predictions?

- New Zelda demo
- Metroid: Other M
- That new Mii party game
- Golden Sun DS
- Wii heart monitor
- 3DS
- A whole new IP with a fascinating concept breathtaking game design that uses the console's strengths in incredible ways. 8D

I can actually see all of this happening. I did like the breakdown I saw over on GAF though:

Quote
I do think that this E3 has the potential to be Nintendo's best in years. The fact that it's TWO hours long already impresses me since Nintendo has NEVER done an E3 press conference that long. Remember in E3 2004, Nintendo managed to show trailers of MP2, Star Fox, RE 4, introduced the DS, had a few montage trailers for GC and GBA, had really early Revolution talk, and revealed Zelda in like 50 some minutes.

Meanwhile this year, while Sony and Microsoft are focusing on Kinect and Move for their PC's, Nintendo doesn't need to convince the world anymore. Sure they'll spend some time on Wii Relax or whatever, but even with that I think we'll be shown more output then in the last 2-3 years. Also I think Iwata had a quote earlier this year about how there'll be more core games for the Nintendo fans has already started to come to fruition (with SMG 2, etc.)

The things that i think are no brainers:
Metroid: Other M
S&P 2
Zelda
Epic Mickey (I actually think quite a bit of time's gonna be spent on this game)
3DS (maybe 1/2 hour or so?)
DQ IX
Wii Relax, next casual market plans, other games that take advantage of Wii vitality sensor
Other 3rd party output that they try to convince us is worth playing

Things that I think have a good chance of showing up (but not holding my breath until they do):
Retro's game
Project Sora
Pikmin 3? (I still don't believe this game exists until I see it)
Xenoblade and Last Story

And I also think Nintendo will have a surprise or two hopefully. (DQ X finally shown?)

I really need to stop posting half asleep. KG only posted the menacing version earlier on in the thread. XD

My favorite part.

Also, all that motion stuff they've been doing is just Nick Arcade but at home.  It's hilarious.

Holy [parasitic bomb], someone remembers Nick Arcade, I want to hug you now. XD

Finally, Sly Collection Confirmed for PS3 with updates (HD, 3D, Cleaned Up). More platformers in my current gen? Yes please. XD
