Video game music is the best kind of music because of it's diversity. Admit it. There isn't a set guideline and there aren't guaranteed results. Something might be done one way that couldn't be done in another genre. This thread is a good idea by the way because it'll allow me to gush over some of my favorite little tunes and memorable melodies.
Also since we'll more than likely mention some composers in here, Koji Kondo, Jun Senoue & Hideki Naganuma are gods of the field imo.
Here's some random favorites as I pull them from my head in no particular order (mostly Nintendo of course
):

I don't think I could ever list out every bit of music that i loved from games in this thread as I write this. Either way, here's a small sample of what kinds of sound I love and have grown accustomed to over my years of gaming.
