You'd be correct, although I myself need a refresher on the finer details.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

Jan. 5, 2009

A new year means even more new games at the Wii™ Shop Channel, starting with a pair of imaginative titles to kick off 2009 in style. Anyone who loves Kirby™ can keep the confetti flying to celebrate the release of the classic Kirby's Dream Land™ 3 for the Virtual Console™. And if you're already desperate for a warm mid-winter getaway, check out Sandy Beach, a sand castle game on WiiWare™ that's loaded with sunny fun.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

Sandy Beach (Konami, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone—Comic Mischief, 500 Wii Points): Enjoy a fun day at Sandy Beach as you build elaborate sand castles. You can work peacefully on your sand castle or enter into a battle with invading crabs in Crab Battle mode. Players will strategically build their sand castle and use cannons to defend it against an army of destructive crabs. After successfully defending your sand castle, discover beach treasures and additional cannons with your metal detector to customize your castle even more.

Virtual Console

Kirby's Dream Land 3 (Super NES™, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Kirby, Dream Land's resident hero (and everyone's favorite puffball), must once again save the day when the mischievous King Dedede starts causing trouble. Kirby must travel through an assortment of levels, battling an exotic array of enemies (both new and familiar) determined to stop him from completing his mission. Always armed with his trusty ability to swallow enemies and gain special attacks, Kirby can also unite with some of his animal friends and make use of their particular talents. Featuring detailed graphics, challenging boss battles and the distinct charm of a Kirby game, it's no wonder this title is considered a classic.

OK guys, I'm just chiming in really quickly to say that I'm going to try and chop my "gargantuan list of fanservice" down a bit. I'll also post a revamped Daisy & Mike Jones in a bit. 8)

You're not thinking of Japan, where the series has been around since the Famicom days, and was actually called Famicom Wars.

Duly noted. But does this mean I should go look up some Famicom Wars protagonists (if any)? I'm game to do this. XD

Haha, I bet it is.  You're more of the StarTropics fanboy than I am.  I look forward to seeing it.

I'll be sure to impress. XD

Two things, one I edited the spoilered post with some reasoning. Second, PB wins my thread for repping two titles in dire need of sequels with one kickass choice (Akari Hayami). Bravo. XD

And yea, my brain is fried as well.

OK RPM, I finished the list that I said I would make a while back of interesting, varied and reasonable newcomers. If any of you feels like being a step ahead of me in terms of my post by post roster battles, click the following spoiler.

I found this bad ass Fire Emblem art and had to use it in my avatar because it re-awakened the fanboy I am for the series. XD

Gaming / Super Smash Bros. Bitchslap: Roster Battle #3 - Donkey Kong
« on: January 05, 2009, 07:58:18 AM »
So here begins round 3 of this wild speculation game. Here are my thoughts:

 Characters

- Donkey Kong
- Diddy Kong
- Dixie Kong
- King K. Rool

No long history lessons this time folks. That's good for me since I don't have to come up with something as elaborate as the last two groups. XD

Now then, the reasoning for these guys is pretty straightforward. The Donkey Kong series has gone without full representation for quite some time now. It wasn't until Brawl that the notion of a playable Diddy Kong came to fruition for crying out loud! This series has one of the most profound influences on gaming in general (beginnings in Donkey Kong arcade, Donkey Kong Country's huge splash, Donkey Kong Country 2 for nostalgic gaming's sake and awesome music :D). There's also the idea that it's Nintendo’s 4th highest selling franchise behind Mario, Pokemon, & Legend of Zelda. So then, why is this series so highly under represented in Smash? You tell me.

Talking about the characters that need to be added though is pretty easy this time as well. Dixie Kong who pretty much came on the scene in one of the more memorable DKC games (Donkey Kong Country 2) and came into her own in the lesser but solid Donkey Kong Country 3 just sounds like a perfect fit. Her interesting character design would also lend way into a very interesting and unique fighting style. (Because seriously, using your hair to whip opponents just sounds hilarious and awesome after thinking about how well done Diddy was in Brawl.)

Then there's King K. Rool, the quirky but pivotal antagonist force for the Kongs. Leader of the Kremlings and seemingly always out to cause the Kongs trouble, you would think that he'd be the best fit for the mold of “series bad guy” that most franchises represented in Smash have gotten as of Brawl. He's certainly not going to be taken to the extreme of Bowser or Ganondorf in terms of badassery, but he's not going to be overly quirky like Wario or Dedede either, he'd be best suited settling in that middle ground with a moveset that reflects this nature.

Now the last thing that needs to be mentioned is whether or not you all think the DK series is big enough to warrant 4 reps and if not, who gets the 3rd spot? Discuss.

No matter what comes out there is always room for improvement. There are plenty of game designers like us too. They are never satisfied and are always trying to improve upon what they have already created. I think it is a good quality as long as it doesn't turn into a whine fest.

This is the mindset that i love the most. It's not so much a never pleased situation with me so much as endless possibilities and how they'd be amazing. Secondly PB, as much as I know I agree with you on having no Dojo, a part of me wants the new Smash just to relive the "Japan Time" antics. Yay, going for a English final without sleep 4 hours after after finding out Sonic was in! XD

The third parties, extra characters, and how to unlock them should stay totally secret though throughout the first year or so as a throwback to the days when gamers played and found things out by themselves.

Jelly, I can't believe you forgot the Cataclysm.

Sorry, it just sounded waaaay unlike the series even from it's inception and with Inafune's classic "it didn't happen like that" line, I just wrote it out of my head. XD

- X is Megaman 100 years in the future.
- Zero was Roll 100 years in the future. (Deconfirmed)
- Mother Elf was Iris (Z2 heydays)
- Legends took place in an alternate universe, similar to how the Classic & EXE series differed.

And that's all I can remember right now.

If we're talking SSE, I only have three real gripes with it. First off is "Metaknight, Dedede, & Kirby in: The Subspace Emissary". There was waaaay too much emphasis on the Kirby side of the Nintendo spectrum for a game that was otherwise loaded with some of the greatest Nintendo fan service ever.

Secondly, there was a big lack of game themed environments and minor enemies in most of the story. No, a generic ruined castle does not represent or suit Altea's finest (Marth), nor does a would-be Angel Island in the sky suit anyone not named Sonic (Seriously, why were the ROBs in charge of that island when a Sonic connection was screaming to be used there?) The same arguement could also be made for series enemies (which could have added to the sense of nostalgia and fanservice) being replaced by generic beat-em-up cannon fodder.

The last thing, which is pretty minor and something that I understood not happening in Brawl, would be to make the co-op mode online only because it would have been a crazy experience. (Not like it wasn't on my end with my younger bro asking me every other second "What game is this music from?" XD)

Holy crap Hypershell & especially Taiyo, you both are thinking along the same terms that I am. I'm impressed. XD

Now then, I'm about to do the next set guys, but what I would like to know is whether or not I should stick to the series-by-series breakdowns or just post an all inclusive list with smaller "bullet point" reasoning?

3870
At which point, they'll re-use them with a different element or power. :P

3871
But I don't think we'll be seeing another CM2 anytime soon if ever, now that Inafune commands (punchline drumroll) all the Mega Man series again.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK. This is the wait for Mega Man Legends 3/Rockman DASH 3 all over again. XD

And who's tired about every boss have to be an animal?

I'm not, but mixing things up with humanoid reploids would be cool. It's one of the reasons why I love the Big 4 so much in the Zero series. They had awesome character designs and interesting personalities. ZX screwed them over though. XD

3872
I'd like to see another one too. But with more freedom, and not so close to the MM formula of "defeath 8 bosses, defeat 4 more bosses, defeat last boss".

They should get their Breath of Fire teams to work on that.

Cosigned and all that. Seriously though, if there's anything more that they should add to the mechanics of the game, then it has to be a real time battle system. I loved how Action Triggers were pulled off and some of the turn based stuff was top notch, but if I get full control over my party a la the "Tales of..." series, that'd be like my X series fangasm right there. XD

3873
Being an X fan myself, his redesign was nothing short of godly for me. Plasma cape... *drools*

3874
I just wonder how long the storyline for that series could go before the eventual "give us Elf Wars links" arguement started. Also, Marino, Cinnamon & Massimo were well designed characters. They need more screen time.

The ingame models looked like wreck though.

Egg headed misshaped monsters.

I remember feeling so hyped thinking the models in game would be 1:1 with the gorgeous box and concept art for the game. Imagine my disappointment after starting it. XD

3875
I'd still kill for a Command Mission 2 with better cel shading and design and a more refined turn based battle system or even more awesome real time battle system.

Let's face it, Command Mission was a great change of pace.
