True Gainax endings are the best endings. They're like a "U Mad?" litmus test. XD

377
That Hellsmonkey KO was a total Bayonetta end. I am seriously hoping that next season is titled either Panty vs. Stocking with Brief or Scanty & Kneesocks with Garter Belt. XD

378
HOLY [parasitic bomb].

Was not expecting that ending.

Rockman Series / What is it with companies and money?
« on: December 14, 2010, 03:29:17 AM »
It is common knowledge among people who enjoy money that companies sure love their products that guarantee making fucktons of money for them especially if they have many of these products or properties but why do corporations like money so much? It is not always a bad thing, but sometimes I wonder if a company tries to get that [parasitic bomb] out with the sole intent of making fast money (i.e. mad bank), especially when they have flexible easy to impliment resources that don't take more money to develop and can be used across numerous products. Companies love money, and it may not be limited to any single source of it or even the market itself, but there is always an attempt to get more money every year. What is with businesses and money anyway?

Badass Skullman submission there Koi. Also:

And thanks a lot for the comments, glad you all liked it so far. If I get to make another drawing I'll surely do something for Megaman Zero, since that's my favourite series too, but I chose Skull first because he had a simple design, so it's easier for me to mess with it a little bit XD

Fishman Island...

My exact reaction. XD

There have been a ton of designs I love so much in this round, but I absolutely love the Darkstalkers shout out mech.

I wish if voting were better for folks not on Unity though, some of these really deserve the support.

387
Better not have the goddamn "Zelda System" for health. I'm [tornado fang]ing irritated with Startropics 1 trying to get through the 2nd cave on Chapter 3, mainly because I keep running out of lives (and health) because of those goddamn Turkey Skull things. Doesn't help that I only get 3 hearts back when I die.

That was definitely a trying time for a younger me, but trust me, you might wanna get ready for some of the later stuff. Chapter 6 will [tornado fang] your [parasitic bomb] up and make you like it. XD

There's a bit of an average looking Smash survey up at IGN, but what makes this all so interesting is the comment nonchalantly made by the writer, namely:

We have plenty to say about Smash Bros., and you'll definitely hear more about the franchise in the months to come. For now, we're curious: which of the three games is your favorite?

Super Super Smash Bros. Brawl 3D Edition am incoming? Discuss. XD

PB said what I would have said on this matter better than I could. I feel bad now. XD

Retro should get StarTropics. No seriously:

Adventurous setting?
Humorous elements?
Classic Nintendo property with tons of "here and now" potential?
Terrain based platforming?
A chance to build up a Nintendo hero that could become the new hotness?
Something that could use motion controls in a really awesome way?

Sounds like a massive no brainer. XD

393
I saw a little bit myself and loved everything about it. Must buy status vindicated. XD

Panty and Stocking is a comedy series.

The only reason I'm watching Panty and Stocking is to get away from "serious plots" and "character development" in anime, because it's absolutely horrendous.  If you haven't noticed, Gianax can't handle this [parasitic bomb] at all.

As much as I want to stay as open minded as possible, Sub's right in this case. Vomiting Point was another case that tested my limits mainly for the abrupt switch between the manic and surreal world the series was to this psuedo-dramatic tale on life as a Japanese salary man. It gained some hilarity on a meta level if you knew enough about Gainax and the animators in charge of the episode as they had a previous "once in a blue moon moment" where they de-constructed a similar OTT kind of anime in the same pursuit of drama mostly for the sake of getting a rise out of the audience (i.e. they trolled the viewbase the same way). Episode 9 part 2, while I thought it was ok, could also be seen as such, especially due to the weird and almost "huh" way they addressed such a topic.

I've said it countless times off site, but prior to Mario 64, this is what I expected plaformers to be like in the future. The level dynamics are just so well thought out.

Anime & Manga / Re: Soul Eater - Discussion Thread
« on: November 19, 2010, 05:17:19 AM »
You're right Blackhook, Studio BONES (<3) were wholly responsible for the animation in the Soul Eater anime. They've also mentioned once or twice that they wouldn't mind revisiting the franchise and doing a "Brotherhood" for it should the audience still be there for it and the manga winds down well enough in the future. I'm hoping out hope for it as SE is/was one of the most refreshing new things in anime for me at the time. Episode one was godlike and one of Bones best.

Meanwhile, I'm slowly but surely fixing up that first post. In the meantime, since this is a general discussion thread, what is everyone's draw to the series so far? For me it was the theme of the show, namely insanity and seeing how Okubo has managed to use almost every kind of insanity there is to write the characters and story lines in the manga thus far. It's crazy how subtle this guy is, he gave Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist) a fair run for her money with hinting and foreshadowing all over the BREW - Baba Yaga Castle arcs in my opinion. The concept behind the weapon/meister pairs is also something I found interesting and have actually played with a few times in the past. It's good to see it realized in such an energetic and dynamic way. Then there's the fact that Soul Eater is one of the few fictions I have where I actively look forward to seeing the new characters introduced. Evrytime I think I won't be surprised by them, I wind up doing a double take and enjoying myself a ton. Favorite characters in design alone are Stein, Medusa, Kirik,
(click to show/hide)
. Don't get me started on their writing or this post will get huge. XD

Also of note, I [tornado fang]ing adore Okubo's art style. It started out fairly rough and crude in the earliest chapters of the series, but by the BREW arc, it was just sexy as hell. (Black Star vs. Mifune anyone?) His color pages are also awesome, it makes me kinda sad that SE isn't a full color comic sometimes. XD

Soul Eater rocks.

Woooo.

Also, the anime had a kickass musical design.

Allow me to fix that lacking description. ;)

Seriously, Soul Eater as an animation did so much right in a time when I was really starting to drift away from anime. The choreography and energy were superb, the art style and direction were so distinct and vibrant, and the soundtrack was the stuff of legend. T.M. Revolution brought their A game with Resonance, Strength (Under the Arbington Boys School name), and my personal favorite, Soul's Crossing (Monotone Princess OP).

Well, chapter 80's out and I just figured I'd kick start a discussion on the other monthly shonen you should be reading. (The first was Fullmetal Alchemist, but it finished its run admirably earlier this year.) With Team Spartoi's finest up against my favorite mage and holder of the Master Ball Book of Eibon, things are starting to get a bit crazy in a way that would make the multiple climaxes of the Baba Yaga Arc proud. With that said, discuss.
