Anyone who wasn't right next to you was invincible. :(

Really? That's to the far left of my Mario Kart 64 experience. Now I keep on hearing a lot about how MK64 isn't that great to which I really have to wonder. Looking at it now it had:

+ The best item efficiency in the series
+ Stellar item balancing. You could be first or second and get super items (Spiny Shells, Boos, Starmen) although the ratio for them was lower. Likewise you could get overconfident in your item draws in the lower places and be brought back to reality with a banana bunch instead of the Star you wanted.
+ Speaking of spiny shell, the "turf cruiser" involved a fair bit of skill to use and then there was the awesome fact that it could serve as a match equalizer since it hit anything in its way.
+ Multiplayer modes were godly.
+ Best racetrack designs. (I really hated how all the courses went and got smaller from MK64 to DD/DS/Wii)
+ Music. Hands down best music in the series came from this game.
+ Kart Physics. If you hit a wall, you still kept a fair bit of momentum, same with being flipped in the air and actually driving. Sometimes in the later games, I feel like the sense of speed is somewhat nerfed coming from MK64's 150cc & Mirror Modes.
+ Keeping stock items. This BS that Double Dash started really took a toll on things in the later entries. How come all of a sudden, if I get hit with lightning or a star, or anything that can flip a kart, I lose my stock item?
- Rubberbanding. This doesn't affect me as much since it was somewhat humorous to me to see how the AI would designate two specific characters to race against you in first place and honestly I really don't get the big deal either. Uber item spam like MKWii (o hai thar Cloud AIDS, Bullet Bill, "Tsar Bomba" Blue Shell and Lightning) is infinitely more enthusiasm killing that a few AI quips, especially since in that game you could you know, keep moving after taking a hit.

Honestly, in my opinion, the only things that the later Mks added to the series were awesome online modes, more characters, bikes, a simple trick boost mechanic, and doubles karts. Still I don't think that the series is turning bad at all. As long as I can have fun with it all, it's doing well.

A few No More Heroes 2 infos :

- Story : it's been 3 years since Travis became the Number One assassin. Santa Destroy is now at the hand of big companies which thanks to massive investments, transformed the small town into a big city. And not only is it the time Sylvia Christel chooses to suddenly reappear into Travis' life as an organisation agent, but his friend Bishop also ends up being involved in a pinch with some bad guys. Just the time for Travis get back to the grind and face some new battles...
- Wrestling moves are back, and along with some fresh dual-wielding swords action, they promise a more varied battle system.
- New characters introduced : an afro dude, Nathan Copeland, ranked 50th on the UAA ranking, and which is apparently a Travis fan ; as well as a mysterious beam-weapon wielding school girl, which seems to be related to Travis somehow.
- Famitsu's website should have a trailer on May 30th, and they'll also start taking applications for a T-shirt design contest.

Sounds interesting so far, still being translated though so stay tuned.

I'm keeping this one short due to browsing with my Wii. There is plenty of coverage on some interesting games like KojiPro's newest entry in the Metal Gear series (starring Big Boss + Cyber Ninja Raiden) along with unexpectedly awesome No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle scans, gameplay info and art ([tornado fang] YEA DUAL WIELDING COMBO CRAZY TRAVIS).

Mario Kart Wii and the damn items. My luck with them is so abysmal and it frustrates me to no end. Other people seem to get good stuff, but for whatever reason if I'm lagging behind I still get, at most, a single red shell. Joy in a box.

You really aren't the only one. It royally sucks to be so good that you can stay a consistent 2nd behind the worst kinds of cheaters, but not draw the right kind of firepower to get them and proclaim "[shadow runner] [tornado fang] YO KART!"

Yeah I saw this over at GAF and only have this much to say. Anyone who can't see why this is fun/awesome/hilarious/want has lost touch with their inner gamer. There was just too much there that was great. I love, love, loooooved how they spat in the face of serious business plots everywhere:

"She is the last of her race, the only one who can balance the force of light and dark."

"... but that's boring, I wanna have fun!"

XD

2646
I really REALLY want it to be ZOE3.

Is it weird that I want it to be this too, even though I haven't played the other games yet?

That really really [tornado fang]ing sucks.

Yes it does. D:

I just hope that it means we'll see possible web streams of some things from there during the show's progression.

Also, one last note, I will be closing this thread at the end of this weekend and preparing our official crazy RPM E3 thread in the meantime.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
With the new game announcements
And everyone's prouncement "E3 is HERE!"
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
It's the fap-faptastic weekend of all
With those company greetings as well as competing,
With charts for you all
It's the fap-faptastic weekend of all

There'll be lots of liveblogging
Sad fanboyish ogling
And games that will make you say "Whoa"
There'll be some disappointment
And people who will vent how
E3 kicked ass long ago

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
There'll be some gamers gloating
And minds will be floating
When all the crowds cheer.

Note From News Reporter Jelly

Welcome one, welcome all to the main event! I'll be your humble nerd host today as we take one last bit of time this weekend to get ready for what a lot of people have described to be the true return to form for the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 for short. In this short amount of time, news from all over the gaming spectrum will be shown off and much to the delight of many salivating gamers the majority of it will be coming in the form of new and previously unheard of developments. What sort of things do we have to look forward to you ask? Don't ask me that, just stick around and see for yourselves!

As is the now tradition of my RPM mega threads, I'll be continuously monitoring things and updating sections as news breaks out from the various facets. I will ask for member help (mods too) in terms of keeping things running smoothly in terms of the relay of info, because hey, I still have IRL things to deal with as well. Hopefully nothing will get in the way, but if I have to take a leave for a bit, I leave it all in your hands. (Viewtiful Ben, Taiyo, PB, & Vixy, since you guys are the ones that frequently get involved with these threads, that's your shout out.)

Final notes from me on this all: we all know that the info will be dissected many different times in the post E3 days or even during the announcements. I'd like it if anyone who feels like a separate thread is required, no mandatory for a specific announcement would please leave a link to said thread in here so I can create a link archive on this OP post. Thanks for your cooperation. The second bit of info is more of a general warning. Console and brand warriors, please do not take the opportunity to oust yourselves as such as there will be consequences and we will laugh at you. RPM has been incredible in regards to this though as I doubt I've ever seen fanboys/gals of the bad kind posting flame bait around these parts. Everyone gets along so well, still this must be said. Now then with that all said, it's time for RPM to do what it does best and sit back, crack jokes, relax, and enjoy yourselves. 8)

Agreed, minus the ego stroking. XD

I find that once you get to a comfortable place and start viewing yourself as the best, you become stuck in your ways and highly inflexible.
