I do remember posting quite a bit about this subject and how the art isn't indicative of the final product at all in this thread before. Let me dig it up and shed some light on this craziness.

EDIT: Looks like I didn't. Ah well, story time! This art for all intents and purposes was meant to be a sort of training exercise for the dev team's artists to see how far they could twist and churn the "spirit" of Disney's art and iconicism before it veered off into being unfriendly, or just plain not Disney like. The reason for this all was to make sure that the artists were up to scratch before employing them and continuing the development on the game.

Now what happened in the long run was that a few members of the team who had undergone this experiment had been released from the team while work on the game was still underway. In their transferrence though, they (for reasons unknown) decided to leak the work they had done, leading to the public getting ahold of it and the media and publicity the art work has been getting.

Well, I knew about Epic Mickey from a while back, but I think this is both the first time I've heard about the suicidal Mickey short being an inspiration for the tone of the game... D:

I think the better word for it is scenario Aldo. There are a very select few games where the story would be a focal point over the gameplay for me. Scenarios however refer to the presentation and hook of the games.

And yeah, it really is tough to try and read the markets, but whatever happened to making the market want your game? Nifty advertising and media exposure certainly helps when you want t pimp something new.

Inafune is not pleased by TGS
(Sankaku Complex, just so you office guys know)

I saw this on another forum, but since I didn't get a chance to post my thoughts on it all:

It's really something to see how often Inafune continues to slander his fellow Japanese devs and talk about the West as if it were a saviour of some sort. First things first, Japanese development is at it's ceative peak these days just going based on DS development. The complexity of some of those games prove that Japanese development is not only healthy but going stronger than ever. They might be missing the boat in terms of console games, but when the astronomical price tags needed to produce things on the 360/PS3 come into play, leaving no room for experimental games or the occasional new genre, who can blame them?

Next up, I want to say that while Capcom has been hitting some amazing highs this generation, I do feel as though they are trying too hard to cater to western audiences by westernizing everything big that they do. I hope that this is just a silly fear on my part though. The west needs to stick to making western styled games while the east continues to make eastern styled games. It's that yin & yang that allows for diversity in the market. The instant one tries to emulate the other for whatever reason is the instant when creativity dies and we get closer to a "one flavor, one style" conformity.

I don't think of it as shooting through walls; I think of it as shooting around walls.

Continuing my eternally long first playthrough of A Link to The Past and I just finished The Tower of Hera. Holy [tornado fang], I have never fell so trolled by level design ever in my life. Bouncing off the boss and falling to the 3rd floor was a hilarious experience for me. XD

[tornado fang]. I wanted to make this topic. XD

Anyway, just based on the premise, that magnificent score, the Ghibli team doing the writing and the art, this is not only a must get for 2010 but a possible contender for DS game of 2010 and best collaboration of 2010.

Also fun fact: did you all know that Miyazaki hates video games? I just found this out in a thread about this game a few hours earlier. Apparently someone butchered Nausicaa and made a shooter out of it when Miyazaki gave them the rights to develop a game for it and that really pissed Miyazaki off. The only reason this game is happening now is because Level 5 proposed a deal to them and the higher ups knowing that nothing was on the horizon for them took up the deal.

And I am totally happy they did. 8)

Second fun fact: this game is using the DS/DSi's highest capacity cartridge, weighing in at 512MB.

...What's TGS?

I just thought they were gonna show new charas ever day.

If it's MM 's Zero, I am losing 50 bucks.

Tokyo Games Show. And I will be hyped beyond elief if RMZ/MMZ Zero gets in. We need someone for gun & sword shenanigans if Dante won't show up and MMZ Zero fits that bill quite nicely.

Everyone here can remember a time when certain game franchises began. They burst onto the scene and offered us experiences that were either new and different (revolutionary even) or old fashioned, "tried and true" and classic. As time went along however, while some of these games went on to achieve incredible highs and receive numerous accolades due to their gameplay, some seemingly became victims of circumstance. When everything else went off and got bigger and better, these franchises seemed to get bigger but not necessarily for the better. Others simply disappeared and never got a second look or re-thinking.

This thread is for those franchises and game series that have seemingly lost their way or been neglected and are in need of a "pick-me-up". Now of course, since this is an internet message board, our opinions have a slim to nil chance of being heard. The fun is in seeing what others might think a good solution might be after all.

Also, since we all have wildly varying opinions and tastes, the responses here will probably get kinda hectic. For the sake of keeping a good discussion going though, I'd like it if posts in here would be well thought out and somewhat organized. For example, see below.

TL;DR - This thread is where all of us amateur designers or simple series enthusiasts mention what it is that our favorite series that have come upon rocky roads need to get ack on track. I'll start with something that I started in another thread, namely the StarFox series when I get back, but for now, I hope you all can enjoy this thread. Now then, discuss!

You know honestly, I die a little on the inside whenever people list story as a problem that needs fixing in Star Fox. The story needs a chainsaw taken to it to cut out all the extra fluff and boil it down to:

"Andross is [tornado fang]ing [parasitic bomb] up, go [tornado fang] his [parasitic bomb] up harder!" XD

Also, dialouge between the team =/= story. I think that's one of the reasons why the story became so OTT and no in the good way.

This is a discussion for another thread though.

A...a year?!

Where is my time going?

And for those feeling the same way I am, now, imagine how little prep time one year is for videogame devs that churn out games annually...

"A bad game is bad forever..."
Someone remind me the 'who' and the rest of that dev quote...

Thankfully, Mega Man 9 rocks!

"A delayed game can still turn good, but a bad game is bad forever."

Shiggy quotes are awesome. XD

Meanwhile, I'm disappointed as it seems that I won't get a chance to view any of these live streams this week. I'll be sure to shout out here and there though as often as I can given my situation. 8)
