Gaming / Re: The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Topic (ITS MAHVEL 3 BAYBEE)
« on: November 14, 2011, 03:34:22 AM »
What kinda team is everyone running? Right now I'm thinking of Dante (Jam Session)/Vergil (Rapid Slash)/Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer). I also have an idea brewing with Felicia (Rolling Buckler) either going second or anchoring. The basic idea of the team is to have everyone work to build meter for Vergil with whatever position their at. Dante does this best on point by forcing ToD threats, mixing up constantly with teleport shenanigans and being the loveable devil hunting swiss army knife he is. In the case of the team with Morrigan, liberal calls of Morrigan's Dark Harmonizer assist with its quick startup and recovery adds a third of a meter fairly frequently while he's in play to keep me playing with his Summoned Sword formations. (Crown of Swords is the sickest [parasitic bomb] ever.)

In the case that Dante & Verg both get KO'd, Morrigan comes in to play with a good stock of unburnt meter from those liberal calls I made and cleans up between playing Gradius with Astral Vision fireballs, X Factor if I didn't blow it already on Vergil's "Nelo Angelo" Lvl. 4 for a one hit KO, and just being that sexy succubus she's so good at being.

With the Felicia variant of this team, she plays either anchor or second in order to build more meter via dispatching a team or her d,d+H Meter Charge. She has good synergy with the rest of the team, creating strong left-right mixups with her Cat Crawl and calling Vergil's Rapid Slash assist and the "hard-to-block"-able with Dante's high attacks and her Rolling Buckler assist sounds too dirty not to try and use well. In the other variant of this team, she goes on as anchor to fully abuse X Factor and cause many rage quits via Dark Felicia Rising.

...

Anyone else kinda wish Hsien-Ko was Vampire Saviour good? Like seriously, I've been playing a lot of that lately and I hate that MVC3 Hsien isn't anywhere near the same league.

...

That X alt is way too [tornado fang]ing good. Also I feel like people buy into the "if there's an alt, character isn't happening" train of thought too much with this game. Niitsuma's been rallying behind X hard from way before Vanilla MVC3 and X was with Gene from Godhand as one of the last characters that got dropped in the final pool of characters for Ultimate. The only thing throwing a wrench in the plan is the multiple Classic Mega Man shoutouts in Ultimate between the Days of Future Past poster, Nova's Ending, and Thor's retconned ending.

X alt should become a full character and Zero should get a Megaman Zero alt. Him not getting that is the biggest injustice here.

You know, between NeoGAF, Shoryuken & here, I think I've gotten more than a bit tired of this entire episode regarding Megaman. At this point, both sides of the situation are floundering between mildly irritating and grossly obnoxious and neither side looking at the other and admitting that they may have a point or two is just ugh.

Why Capcom just can't say [tornado fang] it, put X (or thanks to the extra hints and fanservice in Ultimate, Classic) in and call it done is beyond me now. I put my support behind X in the venues that were open to us fans, but Capcom had other plans. It's cool though, because in this era of DLC providing more for games down the road, Capcom can't hang on to ol' blue for too long, especially knowing the numbers his inclusion would bring. It's better to just enjoy the game and its 50 other current characters with that in mind. The game isn't fundamentally broken or destroyed because of one character omission.

TL;DR

Am I disappointed that X hasn't made it in as a playable character despite all the teases and hints? Yes.
Am I disappointed about Capcom's treatment of the franchise lately? Yes.
Will I get all vitriolic and attempt to downplay unrelated (or mostly unrelated) Capcom offerings because of my feelings on a franchise not getting the support it "deserves"? Nope. Ultimate Marvel VS. Capcom 3 will still be a good game, Capcom is more than just Megaman, even if it makes a large part of what I like from their output and the roster will just lack a character I like. For someone like me who is a hopeless StarTropics fan waiting for Mike Jones to be in a Smash game, I think that's not so bad. :P

Just for one last note, this isn't saying that Capcom isn't [tornado fang]'d up as all hell to do all of this without some form of condolence from the initial fallout of MML3. It's a bad circumstance they found themselves snowballed into after remaining so mum on the subject and one that could have been solved with a good bit of PR or something detailing their thoughts and plans on the franchise for closure's sake.  Letting the internet monster turn this into "Capcom Hates MM Fans" and letting those rightfully embittered fans clash with Capcom fans who don't understand what it means since their franchises are OK was the worst thing that came from this.

The only thing I've wondering about is if its gonna be Classic or X at this point. I know a Megaman will happen, it just makes sense. Thing is, I have pulled for X waaaaay harder than I have Classic and thought that was a lock with Niitsuma stating that only X was looked at in the dev process. The Classic spotlight that these endings all have in common however is really putting some serious doubt on that in my mind...

Cross posting some impressions and thoughts I had on the game based on what I saw at Comic Con:

Quote
OK, so I got to spend a few moments chatting it up with Ravidrath (handle for the person in charge of Skullgirls' PR) today at Comic Con before I went on to
(click to show/hide)
try out the game. As I told Ravi, the game is really impressive in person, very vibrant and wildly creative with a real attention to detail. I love the animation quality and the levels of insane that went into designing these characters. It's something of a literal playable cartoon to the eyes, but when you get to actually play it, you see that there's an extremely solid and well executed game there just waiting to be explored. I can see myself spending a lot of time in this game especially with all the strides being taken to "game-ify" training and learning "how to fighting game." :P

So on to the stuff people probably want to hear. I played a rickshaw 2 person team of Ms. Fortune and Peacock, though really I should have went Ms. Fortune & Fillia. (Woulda been easier to learn with a star character, plus rushdown 4 lyfe.)

Enlighten me on something real quick though if you see this Ravi, who was the gentleman that was playing beside me? (Actually a general who was who post would be cool too, gotta get it into my head who everyone is. :P)

Besides being my first real experience playing a fighter on stick, all this time spent not playing team based fighters or faster paced ones regularly really came to haunt me as I went from "OK cool, I remember the character's moves, let's try to put them to some use" to "mash moarrrrrr" mode against this guy's Cerebella. Cerebella btw is an extreme crowd pleaser. No matter what I was getting hit with, I was in full "I ain't even mad" mode just because that character is fun as hell to see played at even average level (my opponent swears he was pretty meh in the game, if that's meh then I have a loooong way to go and Cerebella is amazing. :lol) I was getting hit with command grab setups I didn't even see when they were right there, hitting random buttons and forgetting all about chain series. It was a really bad showing on my part. I had a lot of fun with just those two rounds and spectating from afar though. (Shoutouts to not wanting to come off awkward & being patient waiting behind the guy speaking to Ravi before myself only to feel awkward after introducing myself and getting the GAF VIP treatment so by the way. :lol)

The main reason why I feel so impressed with this and wanted to make this post though is because of the collective effort this game is getting to be the best product it can be from relatively fresh talents. As a big time game enthusiast, I just really love video games and appreciate all aspects of them from the game specifics themselves to the communities and fans. I feel inspired every time I see the work that you all put into this and as someone who really really wants to break out and design a game himself and finds himself just in the "put an idea in a safe place" position, I guess I just really wanted to give a virtual brofist to everyone there living the dream.

Here's hoping you all do more than well with this game and I don't stay so scrubby when Super Skullgirls DLC comes around. :P :D

Oh, I didn't know we had a dedicated stream thread... I feel bad now. XD

There's some Super Street Fighter IV: AE & Super Turbo too going by the advertisements they ran during the stream, so I felt like it didn't go completely into the MVC3 thread. Let me see about moving this though.

132
Is anyone else watching this? It's a mainly Marvel Vs. event, but it's great stuff all around.

Stream Courtesy of Team Spooky

Be warned, the commentary can be a bit... Erm "raw" at times. XD

Sure is conspiracy theory in here... Let's just wait and get Capcom's final words on this before people are left with egg on their face.

I swear that if what they're hinting is an X alt for Zero then I'll...I...who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyways. I'll be angry while doing it though!

Anyways, best case scenario he actually means MMZ Zero alt with a blue color confirming multiple colors per alt. Worst case scenario X is literally Zero now.

Which would only ignite a flame war between the more ignorant side of the general Marvel vs Capcom fan community and the Megaman fans who (while going through a lot) will only lower themselves further for a rebuttal.

Ugh, the answer is so simple and [tornado fang]ing everyone from the fans to the developer himself is supporting it, so why not put ol' X in Capcom? XD

Ms. Fortune character gameplay breakdown came out today
, and may I just say main confirmed. On top of her awesome as "holy [tornado fang]ing [parasitic bomb], WAT" design, she even has a Makoto like aerial ax kick. <3

I am such total ass at this game now, it's saddening. No more awesome pivot stylings, my bnb's for everyone outside of Marth are gone and I find myself getting mauled by friggin computer players of all things...

Next Smash needs to hurry up and get here that way I can stay on top of my game between offline stuff and (hopefully) good Wii U online for the game. That way the online community might last more than 2 years.

All of Metroid Prime 2. Just... All of it. Whos idea was it to have dual world gameplay on a map that huge.

But Echoes is the best one...

As for this thread, hmm... Probably the extra dungeon in Tales of Symphonia: DotNW where you have to go something like 100ish levels in fighting enemies stronger than most bosses in the game only to fight one boss that rapes harder than [twin slasher] for a legendary weapon. Funniest part? There are four different ways you can go and you restart from level 1 either on death or receiving one of them. Needless to say, [tornado fang] doing that ever again. XD

PAX East, NYCC... All the good [parasitic bomb] and no money to get there. :(

Well, for this year anyway. Next year should be a different story. ;)

If it had online, there would be no reason for a new game, unless the new games were new track packs using the same engine/physics at that game.

For the record, I am still 95% undefeatable on Banshee Boardwalk

Banshee Boardwalk is the [tornado fang]ing [parasitic bomb]. Man MK64... It's like sometimes I hate championing it because I get shot down for nostalgia arguments, but other times I'm there like "do these motherfuckers just not understand that MK64 was damn near perfect?!" XD

I thought I heard the MK7 (heh, just got the 7 addition to the items) is suppose to have one lap SUPER long tracks.

Aw [parasitic bomb], can't wait. :)

Tracks also need more shortcuts, more cheap move lanes, more crazy havok areas and more action overall.

Man, you are speaking my language. I can't tell you how long I've wanted to see Mario Kart courses have Sonic R type shortcuts and alternate routes.

I do. I hate this "instant track" thing which takes less than two minutes to go through. Huge tracks would be beautiful nowadays, and it's one of the main reasons why there is still no Mario Kart as good as 64.

Seriously. I need more Royal Raceways, Wario Stadiums, Toad's Turnpikes (medium sized in MK64, but still longer than) and of course the Rainbow Road. I don't mind the quick fix stuff, but longer raceways always made comebacks that much more hype. Also funnily enough, this might sound silly but that game has an atmosphere that I didn't see in any Mario kart after it. DS came closest. Finally, Super Circuit is underrated as all [tornado fang].

So as I've been watching this trailer over and over again, I've been looking at the item box. Some things caught my interest..

-No CLOUD AIDS in sight thus far. Bravo, Nintendo. BRAVO!
-The Blue Shell has no wings. Have they reverted back to the MK64 Spike Shell? Oh man, do I hope so.
-Fire Flower. Fire. Flower. It kinda makes you wonder why this wasn't a weapon long ago.
-No Golden Mushroom.
-Brown Leaf. I'm guessing this is the glider option, but who knows.

Anyway, color me excited.

Late as [tornado fang] but might as well clarify and put out some thoughts:

- Yes, that is the Spiny Shell from MK64 (Primarily)/MK:SC. Get hype. (Whoops, put SMK when I meant MK:SC)
- Fire Flower is gonna be so broken for people who got good with single Green Shells in MK64. 8D
- That 7 is going to either be the most stupidly awesome thing ever or the new Cloud AIDS/Blue Bomba Shell...
- Lakitu as a racer. FUUUUUU
- Remote mine Red Shell/Spiny Shell shenanigans need to come back. They were too good for just Mario Kart: Super Circuit
- I really wish if they could pop in a track editor, but custom karts are cool.
- Speaking of which, [tornado fang] yea Karts only. I wouldn't have minded bikes as much as I did if they didn't provide such a clear practical advantage over karts in most ways once you unlocked some of the better ones. ([tornado fang]ing Baby Luigi + Jet Bubble combo still makes me rage)
- Anyone else miss long racetracks like in MK64?

Thanks guys. :)

You forgot the rumor of a new Rockman 3DS game, that's not Dash3.

Late as all hell, but what?

149
I only suggested that Ariga do the art direction for the show should it happen. I love the way he's able to make the robots "human" while emphasizing the fact that they're robots with subtle things like rivets and bolts everywhere. He basically has the perfect ratio of robot to humanoid in his design of the Rockman worlds. XD

150
To the topic at hand, I'd love it. In regards to taking liberties with things, just go Rockman Megamix on everything and maybe add some (not too bloated) fluff here and there for pace's sake. Finally for art direction. Get Hitoshi Ariga on EVERYTHING. XD
