Well, here's the old man who's been with us for sixteen years as of last month. His birthday is the 23rd of December and every year, as soon as the Christmas tree is set up, it becomes his new bed until we take it down.
He even slept by the box of ornaments after we took it apart.

Spent all day in Utah.

Congratulations, you made me laugh.
So I knew Ditto was a whore, but when I bred that traded Cyndaquil to get my own to name it, I got two babies in a period of about two minutes. One was a boy and one was a girl. I gave the father to my friend in exchange for an Oshawott, and I placed the boy in the box for future breeding, but damn. The girl got near perfect IVs. I think it was 6, 6, 5, 6, 6, 6 at level 1 respectively. I've already gotten her up to Lv. 14 so I can't check back unfortunately. Lonely Nature, not sure if that's good for Cyndaquil.
Anyways, I should probably stop not breeding. [parasitic bomb]'s awesome. Plus Ditto's a whore and gets it done quick.

Go to gamethemedthings.etsy.com. Both decals came up to around 8 bucks plus a couple bucks shipping. Not expensive at all. Came pretty quick too. Not really a big deal. Look nice though.

I may try the fireworks brush for snow, or make a similar custom brush. I've played with the grass brush a few times.
Generally, my go-to blending modes are multiply (for linework), overlay (shading and/or highlights) darken (shading, sometimes), lighten (highlights, sometimes), screen (various effects, usually for reflections), and the hue/saturation/color blending modes. I rarely use adjustment layers.

I completely accidentally made an image look BETTER by accidentally overlaying my top render with an overlay. Wasn't even the Blending Options Color Overlay, it was one of the drop down box options.
Burn is admittedly pretty useless. It darkens the dark too much and barely darkens the bright. It's like you might as well have just placed a reduced opacity black layer over everything. I rely on dodging too much though. Trying to break that habit but omg i love what it does to everything
I don't actually play with adjustment layers as much as I should. I drop a contrast or a hue/saturation layer once in a while but I try to get the effect I want through brushes, etc.
The snow? I used a white fireworks brush. This is the one I was talking about with the color on the render, by the way. Basically it's a stock image background and a character render, buuuut it looks prettyish.

Linear burn is best bright light maker. The stock lens flare effect is generally crappy in the majority of situations, but I actually found use for it to bloom up some open parts where I needed some glare.
EDIT: This is all implying you use layers in your work instead of making flat images from the get-go.
