Exp Share works on all Pokemon now, the battling Pokemon gets all the experience while the rest get half each.

The Nuzlocker I watch on Deviantart caught a Shiny Female Adamant Absol in the wild, at least it wasn't a 3rd shiny Zubat that wasn't in a Nuzlocke.

Okay, so I know Sakura suggested starting with Soul Silver/Heart Gold first, but... X/Y looks tempting.

Well really any version is good because they all have tutorials, except for Diamond, Pearl and Platinum since they put the tutorial to catch Pokemon after you might have capture 2 or even 3 Pokemon.  If you need like an RPG tutorial Fire Red and Leaf Green is like the most ridiculous tutorial ever but I would probably give that to my mom since she couldn't figure out how to play the first Final Fantasy game since she didn't know what to do.  

But yeah each game has a tutorial but if you want to get familiar with the Pokemon, since this game has a lot of old ones, I recommend Heart Gold and Soul Silver or Black and White 2 if you don't care about story.  Otherwise you can probably get into X and Y easily.
