Sonic is a good example. He is very popular, along with Mario and Megaman, but that doesnt mean many of the games he's been in were that great.
More like overrated.
I played it once. It was terrible. I could NOT get the hang of it at all.

Everything has a fanbase. like was said above. look at twilight. it clearly only sells amongst it's fanbase, while the rest of the sane population cringes at it like a vampire cringes at the sun. That doesnt mean it is anywhere NEAR remotely good. quite the opposite, it gives the genere a very VERY bad name, making vampire fans ashamed to like the vampire genre.
