Original / Re: Why does everyone like Mega Man 3 so much?

All this arguing over a Mega Man game...

And it's not like anyone mentioned legends either. Then I'd understand. Everyone loses their minds when someone mentions Legends.

Jewel Satellite was broken as [tornado fang]. So it gets a pass.

T. Blow was meh aside from screen clearing or jumping high here or there. Fun, but situational to the extreme.

B.Hole was neat, but slow.

Trident was great.

C. Shot was kinda meh. It took out smaller enemies, and acted as a temporary platform, but i never found THAT much more use out of it than say, Rush. I felt it was really a bit more forced for the lava laser nonsense. On that note: how the [tornado fang] does concrete solidify that.

Hornets.. item hunting exclusively.

the magma shot was useless, I never found myself in a situation where i absolutely NEEDED to shoot diagonally, and usually, the hornets managed that just fine since they home in.

what else...

The plug ball was rather worthless IMO. Had few uses.

here's how I feel about 9 and 10.

9 feels more like a Mega Man game. (despite the cheap obstacles) but 10 is by far more original and just a better GAME in general.

3 is better than both of them though

Someone mentioned Sparkman...

Well how about Wily 3/4?

They don't NEED to be, no. But after a while, you exhaust all the poses you can do without some kind of support.

I'm not a wizard. I can't make them float, you know.

Key word up there: "poses"

That's a sad reason for leaving the series...

I'd honestly prefer X9 myself.

NOT SNES styled, mind you.

I'm not sure 7 and 8 worked out for Capcom.  8 especially was very cartoony and seemed to lock the series into a 'made for kids" box.
You're implying it wasn't "made for kids"...

Even the Zero series was seen as for kids in Japan, which is why they took out Copy X. to not crush "kids" dreams by making their Hero, Megaman X, a villain.

One of Inafune's own thoughts on MM8 was that by making it on the PS1, they locked many kids out of playing it because they could not simply ask their parents for a new console, which is why they went back to the SNES with MM&Bass, while trying to retain as much of the MM8 visual style as possible.

Only with 9 and 10 were they really thinking about the "fans" which are now all grown up. But Classic in particular has always been a more kid oriented series.

No 8 bit

PB pretty much said what needs to be said on that matter quite nicely.

No more MM2 wanking. Its nice that everyone likes 2. That doesn't mean you have to keep trying to match it with the no slide/charge and blatant asset reuse from 9. (basically, see PB's no 8 bit point, they have to show they are trying. Not pandering needlessly to a specific game in the franchise.)

... No, this is not a shoop or parody or anything, this is a legit PBS image.

Nope. Came from a /V/ Megaman thread. Didn't think to ask for it.

X / Re: X not getting much as much attention as Zero?

Well I wouldn't exactly say its "More Darker" than Classic
It sure is. that's the whole point, too. "Super Rockman" was suipposed to be as "edgy" and "cool" as possible. Early character sketches for the main character have a popped collar. Because that's edgy. I mean, look at the design that became Zero in X1. Look how cool and edgy it is. (literally! He has jagged parts on his helmet!) Consider that that was almost Mega Man X's design.

Good thing I caught the word "tarantula" and backed off.

X / Re: Which X games should be re-made if you had the chance?
« on: August 19, 2013, 07:09:59 AM »
Also, and this might just be gameplay speaking here, but X is the guy who shoots stuff. From a combat perspective, X would be more ideal to train a gunslinger than Zero, who had dedicated himself solely to melee combat. The reckless bit comes into play here, Zero's combat is decidedly more up close and dangerous, while X and Axl's a slightly safer, at a ranged distance. That carries differences in demeanor and the way you carry yourself in the field.

I thought that was 32 bit.
the PS megaman games (and more or less every 2D game afterwards, including the Zero and ZX series) are on 32+ bit systems, allowing them more freedoms, but most of the sprites still use only 16 colors. Why do you think that RnF was able to use Mega Man 8 assets on the Super Nintendo? because they are well within the limits of what the Super Nintendo can handle. of course, things like backgrounds couldn't be nearly as detailed as in 8, but they still got the point across. (the music also suffered a bit as a result)
