Meanwhile, back at Team Rocket HQ, Dr. Miles Zeigler sat in his cramped office, peering over various reports. He then looked over at his watch and rose from his seat to lock the door so that no one would disturb him. He picked up what appeared to be a bluetooth earpiece and inserted it his ear. Once he pressed the button at the center rim, he "transported" to what appeared to be a grotto complete with waterfall and ferns growing overhead. Technically speaking, he was physically in his office but the earpiece was in fact a psionic transmitter invented by the faction of Team Galactic led by Saturn. It was connected to an array of psychic Pokemon that acted as the "switchboard" that allowed for untraceable communication with his REAL superior.
"Greetings, Dr. Zeigler," a heavily muscular man with Asiatic features with a thin beard and mustache. He wore a black slacks and a partially unbuttoned shirt that revealed his biceps. He was Archie, late of Team Aqua and now leader of Team Gaia, "I trust you can provide us with information during Team Rocket's plans."
"Only a little," Miles said, "Team Rocket sent agents to observe Mewtwo. One of our agents in Celadon reported overhearing a unidentified trainer attempting agitate some trainers at Fuchsia City Pokemart after a combined earthquake and psychic discharge damaged the Pokemon Center and surrounding areas. Giovanni claims that he is brainwashing a trainer called Lexi Shanks and a small group of trainers that includes the leader of the Celadon City gym."
"Hmmm," Archie murmured, "I doubt Giovanni would really be concerned for the welfare of an anonymous trainer. Tell our agent in Fuchsia to continue monitoring the situation, but do not intervene unless necessary. We need to strike when Team Rocket makes its move."
"Yes sir," Miles said before he heard a knock. He pulled the transmitter from his ear and slipped it into his coat pocket before he opened the door (and was quietly thankful that he was transmitting his thoughts so no one could hear his conversation) to see who it was.

"Hey!" Pyro yelled into his Pokenav over rumbling, "I'm going to Cerulean on a Steelix! Isn't that awesome?"

Between the maintenance workers at the Canter and the rumbling noise Thrash made as he slithered down the tunnel with the speed of a bullet train the only words Nurse Joy would be able to make out were, "Qui..Kie...Pl...ease..."

Pyro at finally arrived at the hole on Thrash's back to see that it was what it was. A deep hole with a few ghosts hovering in a circle above it. One of them descended towards the immortal trainer and quickly explained what happened.
"Dusssss skull kull kull dusk!"
"So it headed that way, huh?" Pyro looked to the northwest towards Cerulean and then glanced down at his new Steelix friend, "Think you could get me there lickity-split?"
Thrash nodded and tilted his head towards on of the segments with a spike growling out from it, "Lix!"
Pyro nodded back while Loki retreated into his pokeball so his trainer could move on back and tied an escape around his waist and then around the Steelix's spike. He gave Thrash the thumbs up so they could proceed. Thrash began to shimmer and slithered down the hole at amazing speed so they could reach Cerulean in record time. Pyro then reached for his Pokenav and called the Pokecenter in Fuschia City.
(So Pyro is on his way and may intercept Jesse. Here is the stats for Thrash.)

Meanwhile, on his way to the hole on Route 14, Pyro heard a low moaning nearby. Intrigued, ran to the tall grass with Loki batting them away using Extrasensory until he found a Steelix lying on the ground. He place his hand on the ferrous snake's snout and gently rubbed it.
"Hey there," he greeted, "What's your name big guy?"
"Steeeeee," the Steelix rumbled. The slight wince it gave suggested that the behemoth was in pain.
"Tom, huh?" Pyro replied, "You look like a 'Thrash' to me, mind if I call you Thrash?"
The newly-rechristened Thrash shook his head and then groaned. Loki then hopped off of Pyro's and ran down the Steelix's side and noticed a large scratch on one of the middle segments. He barked to his trainer who then ran up to the Zorua and saw the scratch himself. Pyro's eyes widened as he ran his hands down its rough contours, which almost felt like a grater.
"Wow!" he gasped, "Who did this to you?"
Thrash explained his run-in with the drill, the trainer with the Frillish that attacked him afterwords, and how it burrowed up to the surface in pain. Pyro genuinely felt saddened by the iron snake's plight and reached inside his backpack to pull out a an electric polisher and reached for one of his Pokeballs, "I'll fix that up for you! Go Socks!"
"Rooooo-TOM!" the Plasma Pokemon called out and allowed its trained to plug the power tool into him. Pyro then rubbed the scratch down until it became smooth and shiny once more.
Thrash stirred and let out a roar, except that it was out of relief and gratefulness to the scatterbrained Lavaridge Gym Leader.
"So do you know anything about this big hole I heard about on the TV?" Pyro asked.
Thrash nodded and then lowered his head to over Pyro a ride, "Steeeeelix!"
Loki then hopped back onto Pyro's shoulder as the the trainer climbed onto the Steelix, "You'll take me there? Sweet!"
Thrash then began to slither in the direction of the whole. Out of curiosity, Pyro began to strike up a conversation to make the journey go faster, "So... what moves do you know?"
"Hey there," he greeted, "What's your name big guy?"

Meanwhile, Pyro had disappeared from the Pokecenter with everyone's eyes on the TV. He had decided to go check out what big deal over Route 14 was about, I mean, how much trouble could he get into? That is when he ran afoul of the reporter and her cameraman. The only answer he would give her was, "I like Squirtles!"

Pyro appeared in front of James/Kojiro with his back turned to the disguised Rocket. He did not even seem to acknowledge James and called out, "SHAZAM!"
Then a lightning bolt lanced from out of the blue to strike James and leave him slightly singed though, oddly enough, it left his smartphone and Mime Jr. unharmed. Pyro glanced at his hands and flexed his fingers. It was as if he had expected something to happen but was disappointed to see that his call did not have the desired result.
"Weird," he said before walking off, "It worked in the movies."
(Sorry, but after all the talk about that Alakazam, I just had to reference Shazam.)
