Wonder Woman really surprised me. I wasn't planning on picking it up but it showed up in my file so I thought, "What the hell?" and bought it.

Best decision this week.

When you stretch the timeline out, comic books have been in serious decline since the 1980s with increased competition from other media but I suspect it was the rise of video games that was the first nail in the coffin. Then came the speculator boom that brought us a glut a rubbish comics with holofoil covers that people thought would be worth something someday when, and ended up worth pennies in the end. Its collapse accelerated to where we are now. It's pretty sad, isn't it?

I think trades are a stop-gap measure but when I cruised some bookstores in Great Falls, MT, I noticed that their (comic book) trade paperback sections were actually small than the one up here in Lethbridge. Maybe we'll see those fade out as well. Only time will tell but after I heard about the closing of Borders, I wonder about the future of print media.

Oh, and on another note...

Brian Clevinger's proposal for Firestorm with a showdown between the Nuclear Man and Solaris, the Tyrant Sun. Oh [tornado fang], yeah! That would have been awesome though I still look forward to Gail Simone and Ethan Van Sciver's Fury of Firestorm.

A scary thought since it's pretty much my only means of escapism nowadays. All the more reason why I want it to succeed despite my misgivings.

Just read Flashpoint #5. My spoiler-free impression is that it felt like a slap in the face. I will elaborate later, hopefully.

And my comic book store sold out of Justice League. Not that I was planning on buying it, but surprised me nonetheless.

With the end of Flashpoint, and the sort-of reboot of the DC universe coming up. I wonder what everyone's impressions of it are thus far; I was personally excited when I believed that it would be more like an "Age of Apocalypse" event and everything would return to normal. Now that we have the "DCnU" I just feel like DC is just throwing in the towel and letting the previous timeline go out with a whimper.

Maybe I'm just getting cranky because of the wasted potential the previous Flash had. It really sucks to be a fan of the scarlet speedster right now whether you like Wally or Barry. :(

Well, the eggheads at Capcom brought it on themselves because they could not wait to announce the cancellation on Monday. Did they really think there wouldn't be a back draft? They probably did but they could've done a better job at damage control if they waited.

My only response to this is:

Did anyone catch the end of Green Lantern #67? I have to say that I kind of expected it but my interest in the title is renewed.

...and is it me, or would anyone else not seeing the Guardians or the Universe dead? I swear these guys pose more a danger to the universe due to their own stupidity, ineptness, and inability to learn from their mistakes after billions of years.

I want my Flash movie!  And it had better have Captain Cold in a PARKA!  With a HOOD!  A fur-lined hood!  And it had better be blue and he had better have those snazzy shades!

Albino Captain Cold in a motorcycle jacket will not do.  I want my Eskimo cosplay!

Oh, Quickie. You and your fondness for Eskimos. XD

And I would SO want Neil Patrick Harris for Barry Allen.

That makes me wonder what they will do with the "Man of Steel" project Zack Sydner is directing. Will it be part of a DC movie-verse? I doubt it but it would be interesting.

I got to meet Rob Paulsen and have some swag autographed yesterday at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo.  XD

The partially obscured figure is Maurice LaMarche but I didn't get to meet him because of the line (I think some people mistook him for William Shatner) but I did met Jess Harnell AKA Wakko Warner.

Oh, and I couldn't help but show off my Firesotrm t-shirt to Gail Simone.

I really hate to say it, but Green Lantern was a disappointment. The movie had its entertaining moments and glimmers of character development but they tried to squish too many elements into the plot and you what they say about too many cooks and broth.

Didn't James Robinson say that he was going to pen Hawkman after Brightest Day? I wonder what happened.

Some new titles announced, with Gail Simone and Ethan Van Sciver writing Fury of Firestorm? Oh [tornado fang] yeah! If it's anything like All-New Atom then I know it's going to be really good.

I'm kind of scratching my head and asking "why?"

Maybe I'm simply fatigued after previous attempts to revitalize the DCU after One Year Later, Countdown (cue shutter), Final Crisis, Blackest Night/Brightest Day, and now Flashpoint.

http://www.usatoday.com/life/comics/2011-05-31-dc-comics-reinvents_n.htm

I don't know if I'm reading this correctly but it appears that DC Comics is apparently doing a complete reboot of all its titles. A Johns-penned and a Lee-penciled Justice League sounds enticing but why do I have the feeling that DC is yanking my chain yet again?

You'll have to pardon me for for addressing your review of Flashpoint #1 and The Flash #12, but I found a blog article that states Geoff Johns is leaving the Flash after Flashpoint concludes. Personally, I'm not surprised because how Johns is now the chief creative officer of DC Comics, which carries a lot of responsibilities, and ostensibly more committed to the Green Lantern franchise but I'm nevertheless disappointed. The past six to seven years have been unbearably hard on Flash fans because it seems that DC hasn't had a clue of what to do with the franchise since Infinite Crisis struck. After Bart Allen's abortive tenure in "Flash: The Fastest Man Alive" and Wally's return (though I don't blame Mark Waid for how it went down), I was ready to embrace Barry's return in "Final Crisis". I thought the Flash was back on track with the seeds Johns sowed in "Flash: Rebirth" and "The Dastardly Death of the Rogues" but I believe that I was wrong and the Flash may be in danger of derailing because Johns is simply too busy to commit to building the Flash brand as he did Green Lantern.

It's like you said in Episode 13, PB, it feels like Johns rushed through Flash v3 to get to Flashpoint and I think the character is suffering for it. Where Johns gave Hal Jordan enough character and story development leading from "GL: Rebirth" to "Sinestro Corps" to "Blackest Night" over the span of four years, we're getting none of that from Barry Allen. He's just writing all this mumbo-jumbo about the Speed Force and expecting the fans to nod their heads as he tries to cram four years of storytelling in the span of twelve months. That's not even including how Wally West has all but disappeared (I mean, they put Jesse Quick on the Justice League and not him? *shrug*) and I know many Flash fans are disappointed by how Johns and DiDio avoid the subject. The problem here is that it feels like Johns as too many balls up in the air and now he's on Aquaman and overseeing the DC Universe as a whole, his second run on the Flash has ultimately amounted to broken promises and disappointment. The Flash has all the potential of the Green Lantern franchise but DC is squandering it because they can't get a writer who can make the commitment needed to fully realize it.

As for me, I am probably not going to bother with his Aquaman relaunch. Partly because I do not find the character interesting at all; people can go on and on how the ocean is much like space with how much of it is unexplored but I will simply invoke the Atlantis is Boring trope. Brightest Day may have made him look like a badass but the king of the oceans could never hold my interest on a long-term basis. Moreover, considering the treatment he gave Adventure Comics and his second run on the Flash, I have considerable reservation towards anything Johns writes. (GL aside, of course.)

Just a little memo for Josh: Shade, the Changing Man is actually a creation of Steve Ditko and not Peter Milligan. :P

I had it done to fix my underbite and lemme tell you that it's not the pain that annoys me (there's medication for that, thankfully) but the swelling, which has subsided slowly but it may take weeks for it to disappear.

I had corrective surgery on my jaw this past Monday so my face is swollen and will probably remain so for a while yet. Hence why I have an icepack tied to my face. This also means that I'm not allowed to chew any solid food or do any strenuous exercise until early this July.

Don't I look lovely though?  XD

Ye gads, I thought Thor did my Norse heritage and comic geek proud despite its shortcomings. Don't be surprised if I sail up the Hudson in a longboat to plunder Manhattan one of these days, maybe you and Josh can join my crew.  8)

Hopefully any future mini-series will feature the fun-loving and irresponsible Ronnie I knew and contrast it with a studious Jason.

Oh, and your podcast is great to have in the background while writing this comic book-inspired "novella" I'm working on.  :D
