It's funny because both female and androgynous Petalis wear flower dresses, and Megaman fits their definition of androgynous.

To clarify, the Florians in Cosmo's region consider artificial beings to be beneath contempt. While Cosmo doesn't feel this way, she does have a hard time seeing Megaman and his fellow robots as anything but animate dolls...as in the kind you play dress-up with. Her excuse is that he'll fit in better, but Mega isn't buying it.

And their definition of androgynous? No junk and inert. (Remember, kids, fruits are plant ovaries...) It only occurs among Petalis (whose males are hard enough to tell from the females anyway), and not the lizardlike Seedrians. They identify by whatever gender they wish.

...and while I'm still talking about Sonic X's aliens, the Metarex are Florians whose bodies were so utterly destroyed in a certain war that they were reconstructed into faceless robotic beings, a process developed by one Seedrian named Luke. He, too, would get utterly fragged; he became Dark Oak. It put them under scrutiny from other Florians, but it was necessary to survive. After the war, the Metarex left the planet to form an empire, as a means of bringing in goods and money for the non-fragged Florians back home. It got worse.

I remember losing faith in Sonic X the worse its animation got, but I taped it to the bitter end. And I do mean bitter.

I still like Cosmo's design. Not being into the shipping scene back in '04-'06 (and still not), I didn't get why so many fantards hated Cosmo. I'd later find out that they wanted Tails to boink Cream instead. I...still didn't get it, but at least I knew why.

I got as far as the egg-laying Heaven Smile in the parking ramp before I took a break from Killer7. I'll get back to it once my balls drop.

...Wait...

RSMM/Killer7 cossover? Let's see...

1.) Rock is at the same place that Angel was hiding out in the original game. (For whatever reason) It doesn't take him long to run into a Heaven Smile. Naturally, it freaks him out and he blows it away.

2.) Harman Smith congratulates him on his kill and shoots him in the back of the head.

3.) Rock is revived in Harman's room; Garcian Smith explains that Rock is a "temporary personality" and will take care of a small fry Heaven Smile while the others handle the bigger one (Angel). Once his job is done, he's home free.

4.) Rock demands to know why he's being subjected to this, but is kicked out before getting an explanation. Iwazaru helpfully points out that Rock's target is near the parking lot, and that he should aim for its weak spot.

5.) Rock makes his way to the parking lot, careful to avoid any other freaky-ass Heaven Smiles that might be lurking about. He spots his target, what looks like a normal human, trying to get past a gate. As he draws nearer, the "human" vanishes. In its place is a Heaven Smile that looks different from the one Rock killed earlier.

6.) Rock sees its weak spot and shoots it, exploding the Smile into a million points of plasma.

7.) One of two things happen upon Garcian's reappearance: Either Rock is set free (by getting punched out and thrown on someone's doorstep several miles away), or he's commended on his skill and made part of the Killer7, much to his shock and rage.

S'not like the original story made much sense either. I'd see him as a "once a level" character: He can take a few more hits and his cannon does decent damage, but if he goes down, he stays down until the next level (due to his being a robot, he takes longer to revive).

I still have that 2002 GameInformer preview. Just gotta find it.

BONUS RPM FAKE MANUAL IWAZARU EXPOSITION THING!

"I don't know much about this guy. He was just brought in and he's only a temporary personality; to be honest, I don't like him at all. He snaps at the other members constantly and refuses to work with them; referring to him as "Rock Smith" makes him go berserk. His only good point is that he is incredibly durable and his arm cannon is a force to be reckoned with. But if he falls even once, that's it until the next assignment. Something about his being a machine. You'd think with such advanced A.I. he wouldn't be such a callous jerk."

It seemed like the Sonic fandom was going to go easy on Elise before the game came out and we got...bestiality.

(But really, is HER inter species romance with Sonic worse than Sally's? Or the fanporn? Is it the human factor?)

In the end, I don't hate her character, because even with Sonic 2006 aborting itself (no really), she has potential. What gets me is how the game "used" her--she does nothing of importance other than be the container for Ibliss. Also, I thought the whole "now I bring you back to life by giving you tongue!" thing was just bleargh.

How would I have written her?

The Duke of Soleanna was well known for his interest in the fantastic; in addition to studying strange and wonderful objects and events throughout planet Mobius, he spent a great deal of time bolstering his own energy, mastering the art of flight and energy dispersion, in order to become closer to what he so loved. To his credit, few Mobians were versed in the energetic arts that he had chosen, such as containment and extraction.

Some days he would take his daughter, two-year-old Elise III, with him in his searches. She was too young to understand what was going on, much less why she needed to come along.

On March 24, 1984, when Elise was three, the Duke came across what he would later describe as a sleeping god, the soon-to-be Sun Deity of Soleanna, Solaris. He spent months studying it, forgoing his duties and leaving them to his alienated wife, and unwittingly isolating Elise from human contact from then until November 12...when everything went wrong.

Figuring that extracting some of Solaris's power would grant the Duke godliness himself, he began the extraction process on the unwitting god. As it could not lash out at the Mobian without obliterating half the continent, Solaris instead sealed itself into another dimension to escape the process, with only a small flame remaining as the evidence that Solaris had ever existed on this plane.

The Duke stared at the flame in shock, then remembered Elise. To his horror, the little girl had witnessed the entire debacle. If she went back and told anyone that her father had tried to become a god--implying that he was power-mad and unstable--it would ruin him and the entire royal family. However, being three, she was highly impressionable.

The Duke told her, and would continue to tell her into her adolescence, that if she spoke of the sun god, even in passing, it would return to this world and wreck a terrible vengeance upon it. Elise would only ever remember Solaris as an amorphous, titanic figure--and it was enough to scare her into complying every time.

Ironically, both the Duke and the Duchess would be removed from the throne in 2000--by a car bomb planted by Soleannian radicals. By that time, Elise was fit to ascend...and she was beginning to doubt the sincerity of her father's words. After all, if he had named the sun god the deity of Soleanna in an effort to appease it, and the commoners were allowed to refer to it as "the sun god" and "our patron deity", why couldn't she?

Not long after the death of her parents, Elise revisited the site that the Duke discovered the sun god--and to her amazement, the flame remained. It convinced her that there was truth to her father's words after all; if she ever forgot, the Duke would remind her of that flame and what it represented.

Nineteen long years of keeping what she had seen as a child repressed. She never imagined that the sun god would find a reason to come back anyway.

At the time Sonic met her in 2003, Elise was twenty-two years old. She was distanced from both parents: her father for keeping her in fear of, after the ordeal was over, what she would call "a flaming chicken" all her life; and her mother for not seeming to care about her at all. In fact, she was distanced from her entire kingdom. Elise would be known as the most apathetic ruler of Soleanna in all its decades of existence. She would also be its final ruler--Solaris's wrath would burn the kingdom to the ground.

It would leave Elise homeless, but free. She chose to live in Station Square, far removed from Soleanna and close to her "saviours", Sonic and his gang. Elise is recognized as an honourary member, if only because Sonic found her...unnerving. (This is the same gang that contains pyromaniac Cream, "beware the nice ones" Shadow, and Amy Rose)

*The whole energy thing is a remnant from my DBZ days. Let's just say that Mobians and humans are very different and leave it at that; this is getting long.

*Yes, you read that bit about Shadow correctly. No sane person likes Angsthog and neither do I, so I revamped his history in a (probably futile now) effort to make him a bit likeable. That's a story for another day.

*Megaman's presence? I found a way to work Mobius into MM9. Yes.

I didn't expect anyone to touch this thread again.  :o

Yeah, I did get a fangirl vibe from Boco, the way you put it; really, Sigma hitting on X before attempting to tear him to shreds? I haven't gotten that far in the SNES version (PSP--beaten), so I can only imagine it was a very creatively interpreted loose thread or something...

As for their calling X "Megaman", blame the marketers. Maybe they thought they were the same robot, or just didn't care.

Quote
I recall having very odd arguments with Boco, such as whether Protoman was genuinely evil to begin with (she insisted he was and even wrote a fanfic where he branded Dr. Light as something akin to a brainwashing bastard).

Blame MM3/5?

Since when did Proto/Metal get popular?

Also, these two aren't by the same artist, but they're interesting nonetheless:

As for Protoman being a sheep... Does it have anything to do with that one pic you did with a fully woolly Sheep Protoman? Laughing

It blinds all onscreen enemies at the cost of also blinding Mega. Hope you weren't near any bottomless pits!

I recently found a buttload of *lizsama's old art on Side7, much of it stuff I'd never seen before, which made me happy. After saving it all, this suddenly hit me (and not because she used lens flare in those pics...Blame New Order?).

Why bring that up? Because Photoshop threw up twice while drawing this and its base, evidently because I was trying to save in .PNG format. I saved all those pics of Liz's in .PNG format--in Paint, because right-click-saving is a no-no in Side7's book. .JPEG is perfectly fine, though. Huh.

--admit it, you used lens flare in your first years of Photoshop. I certainly did. >.>

Original / Re: Playing RKMN9 again
« on: May 31, 2009, 10:15:09 PM »
The topic was that this guy was playing Megaman 9 again and got stuck on Fort Stage #1.

Honestly, man, the only reason it didn't get locked/deleted for pointlessness right away is because of that whacked abbreviation. It took me a few seconds to realize what the hell you were talking about; by that time, everyone had gotten a good laugh/facepalm.

It's either RM or MM.

I've attempted to register again. Hopefully the e-mail won't take a million years.

Thanks for posting those, Dr. Wily II. :)

2216
Aw, Roll's jealous. (Just read some of that MM doujinshi, kid...you'll be grateful.)

Could someone kindly post these for me? One of these days I'll properly register at Pixiv...

2217
What's different about this screen?

Not much. I still thought it was worth posting here, it being a preview and all...arg.

2218
Didn't find that RnR preview, but I did find this:

There's another, earlier preview, but I don't think it had anything interesting.

(click to show/hide)

These are all magazine scans, most from GameInformer. I hope you like them because it took me ages to scan them all, including the ones I'll be posting in the Betas thread.

2220
Thought so. Guess we'll have to wait for Retro Gamer to cover it in their "Making Of" feature...

2221
I must question why the credits for MM Soccer got nixed.

This is gonna be a tough one, but...does anyone have any magazine previews of the first Megaman, or any visual evidence that it was originally going to be an Astro Boy/arcade/FDS game?

I know I've got an early RnR1 preview lying around here somewhere, but God knows when I'll be able to scan it...

As for Megabat, I'm not sure whether or not to make the birds extinct as well, or organics that represent the cultures that abhor reptiles. Probably the latter since they evolved from dinosaurs and all, if I remember correctly.

Megabat skecthes, woo-hoo. The designs are pretty Eto Rangers inspired: [link]

*If you know why Protoman's a sheep, more power to ya. In this universe, he never ran away from Light and acts as his eyes and ears instead. His siblings still don't see much of him, though.

*Those things in the lower-right hand corner are what the carnivorous reptiles eat. They're inspired by enemies from Half-Life.

*While they're not included here, insects make up a small portion of the populace. Their societies are matriarchal, and females outside of them tend to be incredibly chauvinistic. (Not sure about arachnids. Then again, I hate the fuckers.)

2223
It's a good picture, but I find it strange that artists tend to depict her as cute and non-threatening, when in the manga, she was manlier than Megaman (eyelashes notwithstanding).

Hey, that's not fair. You're comparing Black Zero and Unarmored X.

Just wait 'til X gets her Ultimate Armor.

X4's or X8's?

Light: "X, I want you to take this suit of armour. It will aid you tremendously in your fight against Sigma."

X: "...There seems to be a problem. It's breaking my goddamned back."

Doesn't look odd to me. I would give Moonwoman and Taichiwoman shoulders, though.

About Apachewoman's portrait: It looks fine; I'd just make her bangs less curvy (they don't seem to match up with the artwork).
