Another scrap, this one from 2004. A.k.a. "when RADIX thought Megaman lived in a dictatorship". (Which was more my crappy-writer ideas than a misconception)

Experimented with putting Mega in different games. (The first just being a schoolgirl uniform. Seems everyone gets put in one some time. Maybe he's in a porn game?)

One of *StephODell's recent pics reminded me that I sometimes drew Protoman with an eyepatch. So...

"It's me, Pudding! ..no, you did not eat me for dessert!"


This and Proto's eypatch were drawn in art class. I like those pens the teacher gave me.

By now, half the planet's genderbended these two.

...Honestly, I could've just changed Zero's eyes and claim he was female, but you know me. Male robot + boobs and nothing else = fail.

They appeared in that "flashback" in the last cutscene of MM8. I had names for them at one point, but I've lost them. Something Icelandic, maybe? (Because German, French, and Italian are overused.)

Is giving the human Eva pilots "busters" a good idea? NERV will just have to wait and find out.

(Spoilers: no.)


Rei was always one of my favourites, but I didn't know she was supposed to be "creepy" until much later. (The shoulder of doo was drawn with Samus Aran in mind; supposedly, those huge shoulders relieve the pressure of the arm cannon's weight)

"R" standing for "Rockoution". I'M SO CLEVER HUURRR

The robot pilots' Evas, all based on their armours and the canon Evas. (Designing Evas is a [sonic slicer].) The problem is, unlike the others, the robot pilots' Evas aren't their moms; they're more like the mass-produced Evas. Everyone knows they were so nice and friendly in End of Evangelion...

Getting off the subject of old websites--does anyone remember the old fanon names for the X5 Mavericks (ex: Tidal Whale, Burn T.Rex--thanks, Mr. Shin), or any other fanon names for bosses or characters before their respective games came out? (I remember reading that early MM3 previews called Protoman "Bruce", but sadly, the Megaman Library had no evidence...)

"Megaman Central" - I don't have the link (it's dead anyway), but I do remember it stating that Megaman and co. lived in "Giga City" (did Capcom ever name the place where they live?).

Reminds me of the OVA English dub. It's kind of...eh. Proto's voice makes me wish they'd let Mr. McNeil voice him as well, squishy game design or no.

Though his Japanese voice is even more ridiculous.

Instead, Ruby-Spears decided to end it series, due to their bankruptcy after 1996, this pretty upset the fans back then.

If I remember correctly, Bandai/Capcom were the ones to pull the plug, because sales from other lines were doing badly.

You'd want the same character twice, then? (Then again, I think non-combatant hacker Bass would've made the whiners spontaneously combust.)

also, its because of the aformentioned "he came out of the game" that people dont mind. Its a different scenario. the very beginning of the OVA has Megaman in the game going through all the stages and beating the bosses. RS was "in universe" so to speak.

I still don't get it; different scenario or not, it's still a damned big change. Nowhere was it indicated in the game canon that the series took place in the "Game World". You'd think the fans would be bothered by it, at least.

In all honesty, I think it's just the fans saying, "Who cares how inaccurate it is? IT'S JAPANESE! *annoying pseudo-Japanese noises of happiness*"

i cant see whats so bad about a fantasy setting such as that. a kids videogame character coming out of the TV. remember it was supposed to be simple, and sweet. and the story was simple. it would be too convoluted if they came up with some complicated explanation for WHY he came out of the TV.

It's not the setting that bugs me (even if "so-and-so comes in and out of a TV" is a plot that rubs me the wrong way). See, it's a HUGE deviation from the games, something that a lot of Megaman fans hate, but they don't complain about it. Ruby-Spears, though? About the worst that they did was make Protoman evil, and yet those same fans are all, "WHAT? PROTOMAN IS A GOOD GUY YOU IGNORANT PRICKS! BAAAAAAAAAAAWWWW!!"

...By that logic, people should be constantly flaming me for all the concepts I've written about, because I'm an American and Americans are not allowed to soil the sacred name of Megaman (or Rockman, since a lot of the whiners also strike me as weeaboos) with their own ideas.

I woul have LOVED to see RS Bass. now THAT would be hilarious. At least Subtank made RS Zero.

What about my RS-Bass? :/

I just noticed that everyone is talking about the OVA. Seriously? I didn't think it was possible to be more entertained by that boring-ass Japanese culture lesson than by the hilariously awesome RS cartoon. I mean, the action scenes rocked, but not so much the parades and stuff.

Not to mention, for all the changes the Ruby-Spears cartoon made, the OVA made more. "Hey guys! Let's make Megaman a video game character in-universe and have him pop out of the TV for no adequately explained reason! And let's have two Japanese kids push him around and make him wait during the entirety of the first episode even when he's badly hurt! That's totally like the games!"

It's not, and yet it generally gets a free pass. Glaaaaaa.

See, this is a double-standard to me.  Megamix, like Ruby Spears, "toughened up" the game designs.  Megamix just left Rock and Roll as kids, but the art style and overall theme to the story are a good deal darker than the games.

Why is it that the Japanese can make an arseload of changes to Megaman and have them accepted without question, but the Americans (and Brazilians) can't so much as miscolour someone without the fandom going "THIS IS A TRAVESTY TO CANON! BAAAWWW!"?

Began as a CG test based off a sketch of a friend of ~whitmoon's (Sakiko or Subaki, I think--she runs a site called IK3). Then I threw Abe in. Yes, Abe, from the Oddworld series; I watched Mom play the first game when I was younger.

This also has to do with a dream I had recently. In it, Abe was wandering about a place that looked like a fusion between my old neighborhood and Oddworld. Every once in a while, the scene would change, Abe would look different, and a robotic voice would say, "You could become a catalyst", intercut with images of a giant red gemstone floating in a column of light.

...yeah.

Megaman's just following Abe around, really; he's not familiar with Oddworld. (It takes place during the X series, since I've crossed Classic over with so many things already)

Sorry if the file's huge, but after saving it in JPEG format, I noticed that I'd forgotten to write some of their names. D: Saving in JPEG format twice, an ugly picture makes.

Some notes:

* Marc is the only "child Reploid" left; Pro and Pan took care of him for a while.

* The Biometals did have their bodies restored some time in between ZXA and now. Their armours were based on their Biometal/Megamerged forms.

* Anastas and Yves used to be prisoners; the former is familiar with the term "Megaman". Hmm...

* Polyphema claims that she was once the rival of Kyuubit Foxtar.

* The other two Animaloids were based on unused Zero-era boss designs.

I heard that Mandi wasn't willing to share the promo beyond those screenshots, so I think asking her for it would be moot.

And I still think that the original art style would've attracted a huge female audience and get the show retooled. A Megaman shoujo series without a flowery art style...that'd be interesting.

Not all of these are really from "the day", some were just poorly made.  Anything from 2002 forward was not back in the "dark ages".  And much of the info from the 90's was VERY innacurate and more in the spirit of the thread.

Those were the oldest I could find, sadly; I remember one site with a date earlier than 2000, and...there was nothing on it. (I think it might've been another neglected RPG.)

And some of these links are now broken links ... bandwidth maybe?

The hell? I thought I typed everything properly...

I thought it was important enought to give her her own section.

I didn't notice that.

Off-topic, but someone once described RS-Protoman as "spoiled". I dunno, he always came off as more "obsessed/slightly ax crazy" to me. :/

I've spent two days lurking around Angelfire, after finding out that it had a search function (something Tripod doesn't seem to have. One point for Angelfire!). My goal? To find as much old Megaman stuff as possible, be it minor or major. (Which, admittedly, is less "theories" as it is "they didn't even care when they wrote this") Turns out there was a lot of interesting material there, amongst all the RPGs that weren't updated since the day they went up and horribly designed pages, the only purpose of which seemed to be to murder my eyes.

Astro Boy was popular in its day.

Regardless, by the time Generation Y came about, the show was FORTY YEARS OLD. As good as it was, I don't think kids in the 90s would've had much interest in it. (And before you bring up old Looney Tunes shorts, LT was something completely different)

And the reason that Ruby-Spears changed the designs wasn't because they were a bunch of pricks, but because the game designs tested poorly with test audiences. They didn't have much of a choice. And even if they didn't redesign anyone, the writing would still be the same.

...Someone please find evidence of an unaired episode/s so we can stop going back and forth on this matter. ;_;
