X / Re: Why hasn't technology caught up to X?
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:45:34 PM »
I think it's a plot convenience so that X remains an extraordinary case. Just as Capcom doesn't care how human Megaman acts, as long as it's not during a "this is what separates robots from Reploids, people" scene.

Quote
They are all Repliroids nonetheless.

Wait, now "robots" is on par with "Robot Master" in canon terms? Agh. D:

Three days of work resulted in this--what I hope is a currently-definitive family tree of the Belmonts, Belnades, and others.

Some things:

* Inserting the Wygol villagers was a real pain; same goes for Maxim. The original family tree that I was referencing (URL is on the pic) seems to have been made prior to OoE, and I think it discounts Maxim.

* Yes, Sonia is included here. No, I do not really care for IGA's timeline. I have the impression that any CV game not in the "main series" can be canonized, discanonized, or recanonized at will, and it makes sorting things a pain. Best to assume that any non-remake should be considered canon and leave it at that, maybe.

* The Poltergeist King is a fabrication of the American CVIII manual, as to avoid mentioning the church. Good thing Captain N gave him a character design, eh?

Now then.

MASS THEORY DUMPING TIME

* On Hector, Rosaly, Isaac, and Julia:

There's a theory that Hector and Isaac (and perhaps Julia as well) are creations of Dracula; his attempts at creating people who can stand up to the Belmonts, if you will. The proof is their superhuman durability--in both versions of CoD's backstory, they suffer horrific injuries that would be fatal to a regular human, yet live. Their Innocent Devils are fueled by hearts, which also fuel the Belmont subweapons.

As for Rosaly--my theory is that she was leftover from Julia's DNA, but possessed none of the other three construct's abilities or superhuman strength. I don't think it's infeasible that Dracula would assume that humans believe that any man, woman, or child with exceptional abilities was gallows-fodder; if he let her live among them and, say, one of his constructs quit and met her, her death would motivate them to damn humans and return to Dracula. Too bad Isaac was behind her off-screen offing. Poor Rosaly. :(

* On Sonia's inclusion here:

Legends's story would require a rewrite. Dracula, at that time, hadn't yet declared war on the humans, but was clearly thinking about it and was mobilizing his forces. Sonia realized that he was a clear and present danger, and set off to destroy him.

Unfortunately, her lack of dark blood (that is, Dracula's) meant that she couldn't hold him down for long. She knew this, and trained her son Trevor for the day that Dracula would inevitably return.

* On Simon Belmont II:

Well, there's a Simon Belmont III. There's no evidence that the Simon we played as in CV1 was a "II", so...

* On Aurica:

Aurica was a character from a Simon-centric CV: The Movie script; a Romani woman who discovers that she is the very image of Dracula's former lover. To me, this screams "REINCARNATION!"

(Should mention that Cristofor comes from that same script. Not sure which one contained an alleged human-on-goat scene, though...)

* On Gwendolyn:

There's not much to say about her, really. The manual for CV: B says that she was his girlfriend (I think, anyway); in PoR, Eric has two daughters. Methinks Gwen wasn't vamp'd until after having those two.

Hopefully not of the "moe" variety.

Metroid doesn't eat as much as everyone thinks; her size is due to genetics. Mettaur is a construction worker who hates it when people think she's a guy simply because she has visible muscles. Shy Gal...well, she looks like a particularly frightening member of a religious sect. :/

Let's see...

1.) One theory on TV Tropes suggests that Maria Renard is Peach's ancestor, if not the lady herself in a different form (I prefer the former).

2.) Another suggests that Maria is of Chinese descent, given the nature of her attacks/magic.

Yep.

...and Pingutay.

A.k.a. "RADIX Cannot Draw Lathered Soap". Drawn 9/15/2010.

Next time, Rock will shower alone.

Quote
Drawn/finished on April 29th, but I kept forgetting to submit it. :/

The boy with the Wolverine claws, Jan, is facing a problem. This village has been occupied by extraplanetary humans who wish to farm for resources in the areas surrounding it. Jan is afraid not only for the villagers and the land, but also that the invaders will expand to other settlements and do the same to them.

He has no realistic way of driving them out by himself, however, so Jan--after bidding farewell to everyone--sneaks out to find someone who can.

There are rumours that, of all the devices used for summoning fantastic creatures and heroes into the physical plane, one is still active. Jan decides that whatever it may bring forth is worth braving the hostile environments that his people did their best to avoid.

Unfortunately, Jan wasn't quite stealthy enough, for he has one of the invaders trailing him--Andraste. She seems to be far too young to be in their military, yet she can fight and command as well as any of the adults. As she didn't have enough time to inform her companions of the escape, Andraste pursues Jan alone.

Her people didn't invade the planet out of pure dickishness; it was the one planet in the solar system where the needed resources could be safely gathered. Too bad that the man in charge of the expedition failed to convey this to the head villager (and is something of a douche), leading to rejection of their offer, leading to force.

As much as Andraste tries to convince Jan that they're not the "bad guys", he refuses to listen. That's fine by her--she hasn't had a good fight in years.

...eh.

The final Class in MPW, the White Mage, allows the user to heal themselves at the cost of MP. (Should your buddy be using it, they'll heal you instead)

The robes are also easily stained.

* Went off several pre-existing White Mage designs. (The hood with the cat ears technically belongs to a Seer, but I've seen classes dubbed "White Mage" with that kind of hood)

Quote
Technically, a robot, a lady, and an android.

Two people that Proto meets in China (still dunno how or why he went there; just wandering?) are Bulma Briefs, a Capsule Corps. scientist, and "18", an alleged android. One of them repairs him, the other fights him.

...I think Bulma's descendant in the distant finale of DBGT had that hairstyle. :/

I thought using coloured pencils for this pic might be a good idea. Hahahahaha

Rock, surrounded by several versions of himself, hits off with his human counterpart quite well. L to R:

* Rock Lichtblitz: Hails from Earth-616, where allegiances are reversed; a total brat. (Surname taken from Club Nintendo)

* Rock Light, a.k.a. Megawoman.

* Rock Wright, a human boy.

* Rock Light, the familiar one.

* Final Fantasy-ver. Rock, who's technically an offshoot of--

* --RS-Rock. Don't be shy, man. :/

* KH Rock, as designed by ~KaitlinEXE.

Hurf.

No, [Megawoman and Bass are] not in this pic, but Queen and her minion-bots are. (Tengu and Astro are excluded because they're just carry-overs from MM8)

* Coldwoman and Burnerwoman have elements of their .EXE counterparts.

* Piratewoman's hat was based on one found through a Google image search. She also gained a scar to make up for humanizing her face.

* I have no excuse for Groundwoman. ;_; (Based slightly off Velma Dinkley. Slightly)

2.) I don't believe there's much of a "hole" in-between the Zero and ZX series.

Yep, there's a Nun class. On an unrelated note, nunsploitation creeps the living [tornado fang] out of me.

Everyone's MND status is raised significantly (i.e., less amage taken). Megaman also hopes that no one realizes that he's a boy under that; I'm pretty sure that men wearing the nun habit is punishable by bad things.

Quote
~MegaManModelT101 requested that I transfer Ch. 3 of his fanfic, "The Children of Destiny", to comic form; this is what we settled on instead, since I didn't have the energy to do that.

The lady on the left is Carrie Fernandez, Legacy of Darkness version; on the right is Sarah, a Numan character created by Mr. 101. They fight crime skeletons, Medusa, and vampires over the course of Ch. 3.

Only one of these people will walk away in good shape, and their name starts with "Re".

There's this Touhou fangame called "Scarlet Symphony" by Frontier Aja, which is a hybrid of Touhou and Castlevania (not sure if it's "Classic" or "Metroid"). I can't play it as I have no money, so I have to settle with the character redesigns by Banpai Akira; they're very nice, though I don't think I'll be drawing CV!Reimu again anytime soon. x_x

Accompanying her are Hataraku, Rin Satsuki, and Wriggle Nightbug. Rin is a canceled character from the sixth game; Wriggle was thrown in to balance out the picture.

I don't think consistency is one of Castlevania's strong points.

Not the games or the gameplay, but some of the character designs. Dracula has an excuse for having a new design every game, but people like Simon and Maria? Maria's got about seven versions of herself running around (some from supposedly the same event--contrast Rondo of Blood!Maria with DXC!Maria), and Simon around fifty.

This wasn't really meant as a commentary on that; I just wanted to put my own spin on some of the characters.

* Simon: Well, I don't think anyone's given him purple hair before (or at least not that shade of purple)...

* Hector: This was based on my first impression of Hector back in '05, when I saw a magazine ad for CV: CoD. Not being a CV fan then, I didn't pay it much attention.

I was a bit iffy on giving him a wing, since Kou Sasakura's manga made a big deal about Hector remaining human (even though Isaac looks very human as well...), but it was one of the things about the ad that I remembered--even though it was just Dalcy (default name for the Bird-Type Innocent Devil).

* Sonia: Based on what I saw of her in-game sprite from a magazine blurb about CV: Legends. (Couldn't find it again, but I think it was generally positive about the game) Dunno where the stick came from.

*Osca: is Maria's pet owl. Osca is there to fill space. That's all I can say about Osca.

* Maria: I wanted an excuse to change Maria's hair colour. :/

* Reinhardt Schneider: Nobody cares about this guy. This version of him was based on footage that X-Play showed of CV64 (or CV: LoD)--or what I thought of it at the time, anyway.

For some reason, my dim memories of CV64 are interspersed with this old game Mom tried to play once, of some guy walking around a moonlit garden and punching hostile creatures that bled neon blue. :/

* Dracula: While I tried not to look at anyone's official art as I drew them, I ended up doing that for Drac here, simply because I was at a loss as to how I'd design him. I did have some of Anne Rice's vampires in mind, despite her being responsible for the, uh, over-romanticization(SP?) of vampires (with Meyer responsible for being an example of why, say, your vampires should always have more in common with the original monster than Anne Rice's vamps).

* Alucard: He is not happy. Probably because I just winged it here.

Partners in crime? Looking for Mima?

Hataraku is the same, personality-wise; ~lilirulu offered some costume help, and now he looks slightly more male. "Slightly" being the keyword.

Scoithin is a new guy, created in the Walfas Touhou OC Maker. (I modified the result slightly) His name is Irish for "blossoms"; his power is de- and re-constitution into indestructible flower petals. He doesn't like it much, even though it has a fail-safe (he cannot be stuck in that form for any reason).

I was told that male Touhou OCs automatically trigger some fans' Gary Stu red flags. :/

She wouldn't enjoy being a fairy, I guess.

And now, the Stardroids, gender-bendered.

* Cyber XIII (of the MMXXX boards) helped out with a few of the designs, like cow-Uranus, crabby Venus, and multi-ring Saturn.

* Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Neptune were influenced by their Nintendo Power depictions.

* Sunstar's hair was borrowed from that one German-named anime that was so heavy on the fanservice that I blocked it out of my memory. (Though it's hard to see, it's black on top and white on the bottom.)
