The MC does have a shotgun, but it's two-round max, and he's really uppity about using it right even in high-stress situations, and it really gets into the facts of gun laws in Japan. Weaponry usage in the manga is really well handled and it adds to the atmosphere of the plot. Most of the time, the people who are considered "the most powerful" are armed with knives or nail guns, or in the most extreme case, a crossbow.

Unfortunately, I have seen HOTD. Though the weaponry wasn't the thing that bothered me; it was the damn fanservice [tornado fang]ing EVERYWHERE.
