The way a lot of these fans are responding to Mewtwo's absence, they may not even buy the game. And I'm not talking about the rational people that want him, I'm referring to people like those on 4chan who made death threats and walls of text on wanting Mewtwo as a playable character or they won't play the game.
Sure, it wouldn't make a super noticeable dent in the game's sales, but I'm sure his inclusion would raise the profit numbers, nonetheless.
And as a company, their goal is to garner as much profit as possible.

Even though I wouldn't particularly care if he makes it in or not, I feel like he's absolutely earned it at the this point. He's earned it from the get-go, actually. With the sheer amount of fans that want him in, it almost seems criminal if he doesn't make it in. Why deny a character that will further boost the game's sales?

Coincidentally, I spent like 3 hours trying to make a GIF (I never tried creating one before) earlier today. And in the end, of course, it didn't come out the way I wanted to.

I... honestly don't see how this character is any more effeminate. I suppose the shape of his/her eyes differ slightly from Link's, but it looks like it could very well be a dude. Hell, Link has very feminine eyes and somewhat thick eyelashes; so does this character.
Basically, this could be Link, just as much as it could be a woman.
This is made in Japan, after all.
