Colors will be all weird and things like that. You have to divide your sprites in tiles and decide what tile will get what colors. Remember, each tile that's size 8x8 can only have 3 colors (and one extra color for transparency).

Let's say you have a face tile (a character's face), you can assign different colors for that, while the body of the character will have other colors and then you will place that body over the face. Just look at the tiles of Rockman. His face has different colors than his body, but they are using his face for different situations in the game, so that's why it's repeated many times.

So try and divide your sprites in tiles and then assign the right amount of colors and it will work just fine on say, a ROM hack. ^^

There's also 8x8. Rockman fits inside a 24x24 tile. ^^

You might need 8 more pixels on both sides for Rock to be able to shoot, walk and jump (32x32).
