Haha, well ironically I cannot make Wed at 9PM due to work, but even if I cannot people should try for it anyway for fun! I'd still be up for Tuesday at 9 as well if possible.

And yeah, I'm all for making this a thing!

It's extremely well balanced. And I've been out of the country for the past week so I haven't had a chance to use the RPM community much, but Cephi and I raced before. It was fun. We should all try to set up a day.

The difference between Sonic & MegaMan, or more to the point Sega & Capcom, is that as far as I know, Sega has never announced a sequel to a Sonic game fans have been waiting forever for, got the Sonic fans hopes up really high as well as getting them involved in the process, and then cancel the game. Mega Man 9 was never, or rather should never have been a sign that Capcom was on the right track because Mega Man 9 should only really be viewed as a cheap game meant to fill the classic 8-bit nostalgia void. It and MM10 were exactly what they needed to be and I'd wholeheartedly love if they continued along that route for classic series MM games. The problem lies with the other series.

Sonic Generations was an attempt by Sega to capture the nostalgic feel of the old games, something they've been trying to do for some time now but have mostly failed at. However, what Sega did was continue to attempt new styles of gameplay and like Shell said they've mostly been hit or miss. Generations seems like a good balance between old and new, but how long Sega continues to go that route is anyone's guess. With MegaMan, lately all Capcom has been doing in terms of new MM games is relying solely on nostalgia. The last, truly new experiment gameplay wise that went into MM was the EXE series. This is why so many fans were looking forward to Legends 3, because it was a chance to explore and possibly improve upon a gameplay style that hasn't really been attempted for 10 years. Capcom can do nostalgic MM games fine. What they need to do is make something new. By all accounts, Legends 3 should have been exactly that or at least a step in the right direction, but we all know what happened there. Sonic may have been a bumpy roller coaster, but as of now the MM one has the power completely off on the majority of the theme park.

Sure there is. Just go online and set up a community, then people in your friend list should see that community and they can jump on in. Now, if you mean just 1 on 1 against a stranger, I'm not sure.

Absolutely incredible!

The real difference between what happened to the Sonic fanbase and what's possibly happening to the MM fanbase is how each fanbase has been treated. As far as I know, never before were Sonic fans promised a game they've been waiting 10 years for only to have it cancelled after it had been overhyped. In fact, I can't recall another game company doing that in general.

8936
I'll say I didn't go and get it either, despite how much I did want it. It was a combination of no X and most importantly LEGENDS 3 CANCELLED FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-

Boycotted that [sonic slicer].

I didn't get it cause of the fact that it was a $40 new game that made the original $60 purchase absolutely worthless. Lol, I'm not paying $100 for a game I suck at! The only thing that would've made me go out and buy that game is if Blues was a character. XD

Yeah, failure to count anything in 5 weeks wasn't an encouraging sign.

Well, we can dream, right?

Heh, dreams are about all we have now! No worries though, as next year I'll see if I can make my cartoon dreams come true!  8)

And maybe I'm just incredibly bitter, but I have to wonder if the earthquake really did force them to make UMvC3, or if it was just a convenient excuse. If it's the latter, then it's unlikely they'll ever change.
Given how little regard I have for Capcom at this point, I'd personally be inclined to think the latter.

Oh, it's definitely the latter. That's not even a question. Capcom knew exactly what they were doing and what was going to get them more money.

Sven was only a dick because the fans had reached such a boiling point that they would snap over the most nonsensical things, because they were tired of all the [parasitic bomb] they've already had to take.  Most of the X-not-in-UMvC3 rage was pointless and misdirected, but while arguably an invalid complaint in itself (and I WILL argue that it is), it was the symptom of Capcom treating Mega Man like [parasitic bomb] in the broader sense over the course of the year.

In short, the fans had a legitimate point, but they picked the worst possible example, which is only building frustration on both sides.

Like I said, I feel sorry for the people at Capcom-Unity/Capcom of USA. They deserve absolutely none of the understandable fan-rage at Capcom because they had absolutely nothing to do with it. Hell, if you speak to most of them (which I have with Seth Killian), they are fans like us. They want these games as much as we do, especially for them cause they get to go to cons here in the US and showcase it to us. I talked with S-Kill at PAX East 10 and we talked about how he also wanted a Power Stone 3 cause he was a big fan of it, but knows why in a business sense it is really not profitable.

The problem most people have with the fanbase getting angry is that well they tend to get angry at every little thing MegaMan related now, from the smallest little fun poster in UMvC3 to the fact that you have to buy upgrades in a somewhat decent but otherwise lackluster port of the classic X game. It's a no-win scenario, a Kobiyashi Maru if you will.

The pessimistic take every missed opportunity, possible gaffe, and little nitpick and blow it out of proportion to the point where they think a business is going out of their way to [acid burst] off their customers when more or less it's either just stupidity, bad timing, or actual business decisions. The optimistic think that as long as we keep getting fed comics, nostalgic ports like this game, and other minor cameos and whatever, that not only is the franchise okay but it'll be back in no time and quite frankly they are fooling themselves.

In the grand scheme of things, this iPod/Pad port wasn't doing anything for the fanbase or franchise either way. It's a game the fanbase has played countless times whether by playing the original SNES Cart, playing it from the X collection, or by playing the MHX PSP game. The iPod/iPad crowd are not and were not going out to purchase older MegaMan games of any kind whether or not this game was good or not, or playable or not. Even if this was a fantastic port, people in the fanbase would still be angry at the fact that we're not getting any new MM games, but just rehashes of old ones. This game could've been polished gold and people would still be upset, which is what gets people who get upset at the fanbase getting upset...upset, because as of right now there really is no satisfying people. What the upset about upset people people don't really grasp is that this is Capcom's fault for the way they treated people.

Again, it's a Kobiyashi Maru situation. LoL, we'll see if I can change the conditions of the test though in 2012.

It´s not that it doesn't fit anywhere. Know that, Four Sword Adventures has strong A Link To The Past imagery, Minish Cap has strong parallels to Skyward Sword, and the whole Force storyline is continue in the Adult Timeline with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. It's just that there's absolutely no good reason to be separating games within the series from one another, especially not Four Sword to Four Sword Adventures.

Ah okay. So where would you put Four Swords & Four Swords Adventure?

Yeah, I've always kinda thought Four Swords was it's own thing by itself and really had no connection to the other games. But I've never played them, so I have no accuracy regarding this.

Well, it's timeline rumor talk again!

So according to the Hyrule Historia book, which again we better get here B(, the official Zelda timeline has quite possibly been revealed. For those who don't feel like clicking on the link. here it is.

Skyward Sword -> Minish Cap -> Four Swords -> Ocarina of Time (splits into three timelines)
Timeline A (Where the Hero of Time fails) - Link to the Past -> Oracle of Ages/Seasons -> Link's Awakening -> The Legend of Zelda -> Zelda II: Link's Adventure
Timeline B (7 Years in the Past after the Hero of Time defeats Ganon) - Majora's Mask -> Twilight Princess -> Four Swords Adventures
Timeline C (After the Hero of Time defeats Ganon) - Wind Waker -> Phantom Hourglass -> Spirit Tracks

From what I've seen, Timeline A is what is confusing people more than anything, mainly the "Where the Hero of Time fails" thing because as far as we know, he doesn't fail. Personally what I think is that there's much more of the Legend of Zelda we haven't seen yet and that sometime in the future we'll get a game that connects the Timeline A scenario between Ocarina & Link to the Past. Supposedly a Wii U game & 3DS game are indeed in the works, so either one of them could work towards that.

Anyway, thoughts?

I like both too, but I definitely prefer Star Trek over Star Wars. Trek had far better stories. Of course, it had more stories in general.

Oh, get real.  The 360 never had a 56% failure rate.  That's just hyperbole from Game Informer and you know it.  If over twenty-five million consoles had actually failed, you can bet your ass Microsoft would be in a shitload of trouble.

As for the 3DS, Nintendo only dropped the price so drastically after such a short time because nobody was buying it.  You can call it sleazy all you want, but the fact of the matter is that the system would've been a total write-off for them if they'd left the price as it was.  The ambassador thing is just an olive branch put forth for those of us who did pay full price for it, nothing more.  It's not meant as compensation.  It's meant as consolation.

The article in question says they surveyed 5,000 consumers, and there was a 54.2% failure rate. I don't know where you got twenty-five million consoles, unless you have no grasp of how surveys like this work. Regardless, that's not the point. The point is that more than half of 5,000 customer had their [parasitic bomb] system break on them and only 3.8% of them, far FAR less than half, said they wouldn't buy that system again. THAT is the point. Microsoft put out one of the shittiest pieces of technological hardware available, and people continued to eat their Microshit on a silver platter because they are addicts. Off the top of my head, I couldn't name one other piece of tech hardware that can fail that much and it still continue to make a profit.

And of course no one was buying it, because most people knew that it would be cheaper later, along with more games they actually wanted for it. Hell, somewhere either in this thread or the Zelda thread, I said that Nintendo would probably put out a Zelda 3DS bundle at a lower price, and that's what I was originally waiting for, until I saw the sexy red one. Nintendo knew it would be cheaper later, but they also know that hardcore Ninty fans and the early tech adopters would buy it day 1. Call it compensation or consolation or whatever you want. The point is that they didn't have to do [parasitic bomb] and it wouldn't have mattered.

At least you admit it's sleazy.

Of course it's sleazy. But it works.

8949
No matter how you want to justify it, a price drop by that much in that short of a time is just a sleazy move by any standard. I did not feel cheated by the GBA SP, or the DSlite & DSi. But this was unacceptable.

Businesses doing sleazy moves to make a profit? Haha, stop the press. XD

Cephi's 100% right. She's not justifying anything. She's just telling you the truth. I could've easily afforded a 3DS at the time. I decided to wait because I knew it'd not only eventually be cheaper, but it'd probably come in a color I'd like a whole lot more, plus better games would be out for it then. I mean, this is standard Nintendo practice....hell gaming practice in general. Did Sony offer any sort of compensation for the people who actually spent the original $600 on the PS3?

And as for this...

No. They had to do something. Early adopters would have rioted, metaphorically (or maybe literally too), over this if there was no compensation for them getting completely [tornado fang]'d over. Which would have lead to lower profit. They instead found the cheapest way to help smooth over the situation.

Early. Adopters. Wouldn't. Have. Done. [parasitic bomb].

Reggie could have come on stage, shrugged his shoulders, possibly laughed and walked off, and gamers wouldn't have done anything. They'd go on the net, whine & complain, other gamers would laugh at them for not waiting seeing as how pretty much everyone knew it would be cheaper later on, and then they'd continue supporting the product and buying the games. Gamers are addicts, and gaming companies of every kind have them by the [tornado fang]ing balls.

Only a technological device like a gaming system could literally have a 56% failure rate at one point and people still buy it, support it, and continue to deal with it after having sent the damn thing in 3 or more times. 15% is already unacceptable for pretty much every other high end tech device, but the 360 managed to survive and people will throw down another $400-$500 for the 720 when that comes out. People will buy the PSVita when it first comes out as well, and eventually Sony will drop the price on that as well. Call it a hunch, but I doubt they offer anything for the early Vita adopter.

There was 0% risk in losing profit lowering the price like they did, cause the people that bought it still bought it and will most likely continue to support it, so they don't factor in, and the sales were going to massively increase due to the lower price, better colors & bundles, and better games out for it. Sleazy or not, it is pretty much a FLAWLESS business strategy and it works every damn time because they know exactly who their market is.
