I'm drinking milk, currently.  But, I've been working on cutting back by replacing soda with juice, which I need to buy tomorrow.  I've also drank a half-gallon of milk in about a day.

Guts are feeling fine right now.

That's good. But yeah, just give it up entirely. It's not worth it, and juice is delicious. I also recommend smoothies!

I'd better not drink my Mountain Dew too fast, then.  My guts are only now finally behaving.

If I might make a suggestion. If you have stomach problems, you might want to give up soda. It's done wonders for me.

So, there is this Toy Story theory going around that Jessie's former owner, Emily, and Andy's mom are the same person. The reason being because Emily had a cowboy hat that Andy was seen wearing in the film. They even went as far as to show the hat without the white band around it, illustrating that it's old, therefore losing some of its parts through the ages.

For a refresher (assuming you've all seen the Toy Story films), Emily is seen in this sad-as-[tornado fang] scene.

Toy Story 2 "When She Loved Me" Sarah McLachlan 1999

If I recall, Andy only wore the hat in the first film, while Jessie and Emily were introduced in the second.

Funny how this eluded so many people, me included. Huge props to Pixar for making the viewers look for the hints, without outright telling you that they're the same person and the hat was passed down to her son.

Yeah, I have heard that theory and it's pretty good.

Also not watching that clip because it's WAY too late for feels.

I read your post, PB.  You make a lot of good points, some of which I'll take into consideration with the death of the EU.

I mean, I'm still upset.  I'm a huge EU fan, so rightfully I'll be upset.  But, Disney didn't decanonize it just to be jerks.  They needed to unload years and years of baggage so that the sequels will be more accessible.

And I'm still looking forward to the sequels, and even more so with the demise of the EU, as I won't be fretting over the massive amount of retcons needed afterward.  This frees my mind and will let me enjoy the movies!   I can't wait!

And likewise for the Rebels series, though I wasn't worried about that at all.  What I worry about for that is finding a way to watch it!  Hopefully it comes on Netflix or something.

I've had time to process the demise of the EU, and while I don't like it, I do understand why it happened.  It won't stop my fanfics, though. :P

You have a right to be upset. Like with Spidey, the New 52, and Legends 3, Disney handled the situation very poorly & confusingly. That's never good.

Haha, and they can never stop fanfics! Or porn! 8D

Also I hate this freaking pre-summer heat wave right now, if I don't have the fan on in some way I'll be miserable but if I have it one my throat with get dry up and sore and I'll also be miserable.  This seriously bugs me. :|

Heh, thanks.

Yeah, a friend of mine is complaining about the heat wave out there as well.

I'm honestly interested in what you got to say about this.

It's pretty much what I've been saying since it happened. But here, so you don't have to look on the video.

Quote
Sigh, I'm probably going to regret this...

Clement is 100% right about two things: that it's a matter of perspective and that MegaMan is now a niche market. Keeping both of those things in mind, that's also the problem with what Capcom did with Legends 3.

(At this point I'd like to point out that I honestly do not care that MML3 or MMU was cancelled, and this is just to offer my personal accounts of what happened. I have no problem with Capcom. At all.)

I was there at the NYCC MegaMan Legends 3 announcement. I sat in the room, watched everything they had to offer, and was pretty blown away with the announcement and especially all the coming fan feedback towards helping make the game. What blew me away was not the fact that MM fans were finally getting a new Legends entry, but more that Capcom was making it in the first place. My immediate reaction to that panel was "Wow. That's ummm, that's really nice of Capcom. They really do respect & like their fans!"

The reason I said this is because, even back then it should have been obvious that the Legends series was never that profitable, even among MegaMan fans. It was Capcom's cult favorite, nowhere near as profitable as the Classic, X, or their BN series. Capcom is nice to their fans, but Capcom is still a business that's all about making money. Prior to this announcement, at PAX East I talked to Seth Killian about a new Power Stone entry and he was very nice & upfront with me about why the odds of seeing one are very low.

S-Kill - "Sure, they could make a Power Stone 3 to please fans and people like me. OR, they could put that money and make another Street Fighter or Devil May Cry and make a lot more money. They'll go with the sure bet rather than the cult gamble!" (I love that S-Kill loved Power Stone)

That's the bottom line. Capcom is a business, and as a business, they royally screwed the pooch on this one. The problem wasn't the cancellation. The problem was the announcement of bringing it back and ESPECIALLY the part about creating a community to help build the game WITH Capcom, via Servbot numbers, polls, voting, and everything that went into creating the utter shitstorm that followed.

The game was never going to be profitable from the get go. It was for the niche fans, a kind of "Thank you for supporting us all these years, we appreciate your patience so here's something just for you" kind of game. You cannot, repeat, cannot get a cult fanbases hopes up, get them involved, and then tell them it's not happening in the most [acid burst] poor way possible, and then offer little to no compensation for your screw up. This isn't a matter of entitlement, but rather simple business & customer service practices. When a business you shop at, buy from, or use a lot screws you over, whether intentionally or unintentionally, they usually offer you something in return. Capcom never did that, at least not immediately.

But here's the real kicker. They know they don't have to, because ultimately gamers are addicts, as CLEARLY shown by the constant entitlement you see from MM fans and...well pretty much most gamers in general. That's why when someone asked me if I was going to boycott Capcom after MML3, I said "Absolutely not, because if they make another 8-Bit MM11 download game, I'm going to buy it without hesitation." because the Classic series is my favorite, and they've done alright by me. As Clement said, MegaMan is in Smash Bros. I've wanted that since Melee. I'm happy. That's me though.

Anyway, what I stated about is why I think SOME MegaMan fans are still pissed. (Not all, but some, because some are more mature & sane than the whiniest of MM fans) Not just because of the cancellation, but rather everything that happened with Legends 3 from the announcement to the cancellation. If I were a huge Legends 3 fan, I'd probably still be upset. It would be if Kojima finally stopped accepting Metal Gear Solid Konami money, announced a new Zone of the Enders 3 and asked me to vote on Orbital Frame designs, only for him to crush my hopes and dreams utterly. I'd be pissed.

tl;dr MegaMan, except for classic series nostalgia DLs and items, is not profitable anymore, and it may never be again. It's now a niche market, plain and simple. No amount of whining or complaining is going to make it come back.

I'd love to be able to retcon large chunks of my life when I can and i'd love for it to have the most pliable of canons.  But, it doesn't.  That sucks.  However, I still like some semblance of consistency.  I want my apartment layout to remain the same day to day, not change on the whims of the universe because it got bored and decided that my current living quarters were dull.

LoL, we again differ there. I actually love rearranging my room once in a while. Or loved doing it, as I cannot anymore due to lack of room.  8D

If you eliminate canon in a franchise, you essentially eliminate the overarching world it exists in.  Personally, I'd rather be able to trace events through multiple stories and watch my favorite characters grow than have a disjointed series of meandering events in a world where absolutely nothing matches up.

This is where you and I disagree. I've always been more of a fan of Elseworlds stories, stories that are outside the Canon. With DC, Kingdom Come, New Frontier, Justice, All Star Superman, and so many more DC stories that are non-canon are just superb pieces of writing. With Marvel, I love Miles Morales, and I love that they actually had the balls to kill Peter Parker in a respectful way.

Hell, even with MegaMan, I dislike the fact that the Classic series and the X series connect canonically, cause I still think it makes no sense. Midichlorians are actually canon, and they're incredibly stupid. This is where continuity fails at times, and fails hard. I'd rather the Prequel movies never happened because they are so insanely shitty that I would like to go back and erase them OR redo them, which I'm hoping with all my Dark Force powers that Disney actually does.

But that's probably not going to happen, and it is in this where I agree with the author.

Quote
The fans will support whichever of the continuities they prefer, either because they have affection for the author, or because they like one more than the other, or maybe some of them will support all of them because they like all of them. That’s how it should be.

This is the ultimate truth of the matter. Personally, I choose to think that the prequels didn't happen. Not because they "mess with my childhood" or something like that, but because they're just simply so incredibly shitty and can be done so much better....like most likely it had been in the EU before these [parasitic bomb] movies come out. It's why I love the KOTOR games so much, because you can choose your own path. Same with certain Star Trek U books.

Mind you, this is not me saying I agree entirely with her article. I think a lot of it is kinda cynical and missing the point of why fans are pissed, especially the DC fans. [tornado fang]ing with established canon does make people upset, like with Spidey or the New 52. Plus you don't know what you're getting from the result of said fuckery. That has nothing to do with it being canon, but more with it being stupid. Like the Midichlorians & Jake Lloyd's "acting" skills.

And ultimately, like you said, this is about how they handled it, which is exactly why the New 52 and Spidey were so [tornado fang]ing awful.

Quote
What that article fails to mention are the good things about canon.  Canon gives us continuity.  Continuity for world-building is a good thing.  There are consistencies, there are things that happen because something else happened.  These things exist in our own world, and when they're applied to fiction, they give a franchise a grounding in reality.  Character see consequences that follow them, just as we do.  Characters grow in response to various incidences, just as we do.  And characters can expect something in their world to work the same way every time they use it, just as we do.

Let's face it; if there was no continuity, you'd be starting your car a different way each day, and it'd look different every time you see it.  Our lives have a canon, so why shouldn't our fiction?

Because it's fiction, and you can mess with what happens, or has happened in a fictional universe. You cannot do that in your life. I do get in my car & start it a different way each day, whether it's plug in my cell phone first, or my iPod, or whatever. Sometimes the car doesn't start cause you forgot to turn off the lights and the battery is drained. Sometimes I take the bus. While characters respond differently to different situations, you're still in control of what those characters do and how they respond. And, more to the point, you know the outcome of what that character learns and how his or her story continues. Life doesn't work like that.

If an author doesn't like something in a story, they can go back and fix it. Not that they always should, because then you get Greedo shooting first. We cannot do that in real life. If someone went back and completely removed Midichlorians from existence, I think .0000001% of Star Wars fans would never complain, and actually cheer. They can do that. We cannot. If I could, I'd completely rewrite all of 2012 from April to December.

Protoman Blues is based, obviously, on my love of Blues. Pretty Bunny ProtoGal Blues is a fun mix of my own silliness + something something Japan love.

All my other character names are usually based on all the numerous characters I have come up with for my stories & bios & such. They're usually fantasy or comic book-ish.
