Gaming / Re: Easy Mode Mockery why?
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:59:29 AM »
*I* am not bothered (outside of disliking how it can effect others and has done so over time) by such things, to be honest. Though I guess the question is why it is done at all? Is it really necessary? Should we excuse assholery just because 'everyone does it' and all that? Eh, I just don't think it is necessary. Some people are actually offended by that.

Of course, some would counter that they "shouldn't let it bother them" and "bullying and making fun of people is a part of life" and all that jazz. But instead of being defeatist about it, we should instead ask, "why do people do that? and should we condone such behavior?" not that I'm a saint or what have you. I've done my share of picking on others or pushing buttons, usually where warranted (that's an opinion though). Not trying to ride the moral high horse, but no one really asks these questions and pushes them. *shrugs*

Just to be clear, I'm not saying you, I'm just saying people in general who are bothered by it, especially on the net. I mean, offline I can understand how bullying effects people because along with verbal abuse can also come physical abuse, plus the person is vocal & in your face directly, so there is a huge difference. However, online? It makes little sense to me cause it's literally words on a screen, especially over something as insignificant as playing a game on Easy Mode. As for why it's done, that's because like Shell' and I said, the net has given gamers a voice and for some gamers, an outlet for their frustrations from their offline lives perhaps. Just like offline bullying can be an outlet for bullies due to their home life or many other factors. "Why people do that" can have so many answers depending on the person or the situation, so ultimately there is no one answer to that question. Hell, some people are just assholes.

Also, you shouldn't condone such behavior, but really there's nothing that can be done about it. It's Freedom of Speech, so as much as we don't like when someone makes fun of someone or mocks them, there really is nothing you can do about it. So logically the only alternative is to not let it bother you, because you cannot tell people what not to say to someone. I mean, we can to a certain degree on forums like this, but overall you ultimately don't know what's going to bother someone and what not. For example, what if what we've been talking about was bothering someone for no reason other than they were uncomfortable with our discussion? What if someone got pissed at you for talking about your sweetie pie all the time, or me for arrogantly pumping myself up on a secondly basis? LoL, are you gonna stop, cause I'm certainly not! XD

Okay, maybe it's just because I have a very strong personality and don't understand other's mindset....but if you're bothered by peer pressure from GAMERS...ESPECIALLY ONLINE, then not being able to deal with them making fun of you for playing Easy Mode is the least of your worries in life!  -_-

That said, there is a certain mentality shift that's gone on since the onset of the internet.

I think you're referring to gamers actually having an outlet and voice!  8D

I will admit to having not done so, but I also leave room for the possibility. After all, Mrs. Ares isn't a platformer. She has never beaten a single Megaman game herself, at least to my knowledge.

And well, maybe the person wants to play it to hear the music. I've actually picked up a megaman game after beating it before just to listen to all the stage music over again. Easy mode would make that access easier. And yes, let us forget the whole "we got netz, bitches" thing. Even if basically everyone does.

I won't deny the game is probably easy as hell on easy... which is the intent really. *shrugs* It could be good for those who suck at platforming or just really need the practice. Somewhere to start, as it were.

Again, I cannot say from experience, but it doesn't knock my point out completely either.

Let me put it to you this way: I agree that in most games Easy Mode is a good way for people who haven't played a certain genre of game, or perhaps younger gamers, to get a feel for what they are getting into and such. There is still some level of challenge to it, and just enough difficulty to let a gamer make mistakes, learn from them, practice, and grow. Like you said, somewhere to start.

MM10 Easy Mode offers none of that. There is no challenge to it, no difficulty, no learning, and really no mistakes to be made other than accidentally falling into a pit because your fingers slipped on the controller. MM10 Easy Mode will in NO way prepare them for MM10 Normal Mode. It will not help anyone improve at classic MM platforming in any way. The most it will do is show them the level layout, but literally that's it, which won't help them because now those spikes & pits will no longer be covered, more enemies will be on the screen, you won't just take a single point of damage from everything, and the bosses will have their patterns and strengths back and not take double damage.

And I will agree that the music is a good reason to play this game. However, if you don't have a net connection, you can't play the game anyway sadly.

Actually, again I disagree. I agree with everything in your post except one thing. Not everyone is good at platforming. Some people have such bad depth perception that 2D platforming is difficult.

In that regard, this can't apply to every type of gamer. Some gamers can't platform to save their life, but they can dominate any RPG, or they have mad skills in Guitar Hero, or whatever.

*shrugs* Just Saiyan.

I don't know if you've played MM10 on Easy Mode, but it's absolutely [tornado fang]ing shameful, to the point where it literally removes pretty much every single spike in the game, covers just about every pit, and makes the bosses so absolutely pitifully weak that the game has literally 0% challenge to it. If you're not playing a game to be challenged, why play at all? Maybe you could argue the story, but lets be real here, this is Classic MegaMan. Overall, the game is SO easy that if one sucks at platforming that much in order to resort to MM10's Easy Mode, then they shouldn't be platforming at all.

Nothing wrong with Easy Mode.

Except in MM10, in which the only reason to do it is for In-Game achievements & humor reasons. I said it before and I'll say it again: If you die in MM10's Easy Mode for ANY other reason than just "slip of the finger falling into pit" then just put down the controller and never play another video game again!

Just because I said I can't do it doesn't mean she can't. 8D

She's got the proper equipment to "defeat" me in "combat" after all.

Not to mention the skill.  owob

I'm sure she also doesn't mind the fact that "it's too hard!"  8B

I learned that New York state ID cards are unusually flexible. Or at least my friend's is.

Can some New York RPMer confirm or deny this? (I'm looking at you PB!)

My driver's license is kinda flexible, yeah.

Easily the sexiest of the model kits.
