Gaming / Re: Games that are so bad, they are laughably good.

And of course, Treasure's Advance Guardian Heroes

I disagree with this much. I mean, really, the most backlash against the game came from those who were basically hoping for something verbatim to Guardian Heroes (SAT), and didn't get it. But as a stand-alone title, AGH ain't bad. The whole "Parry" mechanics were well-done, imo.

Now, something like MC Kidz? That's definitely something I think would be more deserving of such an accolade of being a "B-Grade" game.

So Pyre Heart will always follow me around?

.....I may have to never level him up and just raise another Cyndaquil to be Typhlosion ...

I feel the same way about my upcoming Wanioko/Totodile, who shall be named Laguna....   8D

If CoroCoro/Nintendo Dream deliver on some more megatons....they may force my hand, to import this sucker.

Where is that info? I can't find it. It certainly doesn't help that SNK of America hasn't updated the thing in half a decade >_>

If it's not on the US site, it definitely was on the JP equivalent. I may have to get my pal's download of the site at that time for more on this...

Sure, they can retcon it whenever they want, but for now they are dead unless officially stated otherwise. Which honestly, I wouldn't mind at all since Chris is who I main in all dream matches.

Like I said though, the comments I referred to were said on the OFFICIAL KOF 10th anniversary page, 5 years ago. The usual rules of engagement are that "Word of God" trumps all, right? That goes even beyond what the games present (which are usually ambivalent until they try to make sense of things some games later, any way).

So, in short, clinging to what may have been the "old explanation" (2K's strikers seems to be the main one) is not really the standard now, it seems.

Quote
Speaking of the New Faces, did they ever say if what is sealed is only Orochi's spirit or Chris' body too? However, I don't see how the New Faces evaded that, Yashiro pretty much rips off all of their throats in their own ending, and then there's their 2k strikers. Also, Geese depends on which continuity you are XD

Well, on one hand, I don't think it was explicitly said one way or the other about Orochi's sealing. But on the other, it's pretty plain to see that the New Faces' own storyline and ending didn't happen as was depicted, just like what could be said for a number of the other endings that were presented in that game.

After all, there wasn't any opportunity for Shingo+Kyo's ending to occur like it did, because Kyo and Iori were supposed to have disappeared following the events of the "Shingi Trioca" (Heavenly Treasures) ending, which was definitely the one, true ending of that game.

Everything points to the notion that, as far as SNK is concerned, they just want to keep as many fan faves around as much as possible, without having to worry about fairly insignificant things, like storyline, stopping them.

In other words, now that they've actually gone through the trouble of crafting Mature's sprite set for this new generation of KOF, expect her to stay around for a while. They may go into depth to try and explain how she and Vice survived, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. Because again, they now have the "word of God" fallacy to rely on, which basically gives them free reign to bring back any and all KOF favorites, as they wish.

Yeah, but remember 2000 and how every striker that was officially dead back then simply vanished? Mature and Vice were among them.

Sure. But, as is seemingly the case with things of this nature, they obviously did more to change their minds about things like. More than likely though, I believe they just don't care that much, and just wanted to make things easy, so that they reserve the right to bring these characters back at any time, without having to "explain away" things.

I mean, these are the same guys, who just recently, pretty much effectively did a DC-esque "HyperTime"-style recon, which phased K9999 out of existence, and now he's replaced with the non-Tetsuo-homage, "Nameless".

Quote
Oh, and you forgot to mention that Magaki got impaled by Shion (the Ikari even had his corpse, there's no "he didn't die" for him) and that Shion is pretty much trapped in another dimension for eternity.

Tru dat. Pretty much the story for KOF is that, any body who's a "big bad" is liable to be put on the chopping block. Thus far, the only one/ones who seems to have evaded that are Chris and the New Faces, and Geese (though it was alleged he would be dealt with soon enough, too).

831
Also, Soul Silver, hell yeah. 8U

YES.

Soul Silver sounds infinitely more CRUNK than "Heart Gold".

I wonder if they'll reverse the order for the English release.

"Silver Soul" and "Gold/Golden Heart" flow much better, in my opinion.

Totodile! You'll be seeing me again, soon!

a zombie Mature! D:

Actually, if you really care about such details...

Years ago, with KOF's 10th anniversary website (back in 94), SNK actually did more to put out the "official say-so" on who's dead, and who's not.

Basically, according to SNK, technically EVERYBODY is still alive and fine, except for Goenitz, Igniz, the two Zeroes, Krizalid, the various Kyo clones (besides Kusanagi) and Rugal (or at least, certainly the "original" guy who died in 95).

So, in other words, it's fine that Mature is here, and I wouldn't be surprised if Vice is soon to follow (to complete Iori's most renowned default team). They're just like Foxy, who was thought to have been "killed" in 2001, but has since been stated to be still "alive and well".

834
I loved that movie. ^^

It's also made sure that Lucario got into Brawl. =D

I liked "Wave-Guiding Hero", too, at least in JP.  8D

And yeah, the fact that Lucario was the 4th Gen Poke that got the most amount of play guaranteed him a spot. Basically the same thing for how Mewtwo was able to get into Melee, and even how Nyasu/Meowth was "allegedly" planned for the original game.

835
More starters and legendaries creates more movies~

True, but Lucario certainly proves as an example that breaks the rule.  He proved that a movie that could work just fine with just a nice new, shiny and non-Legendary Pokemon altogether, PLUS an already established Legendary (Mew). Lukey wasn't even a starter, and yet he was the 4th Generation Poke that we got to know the most.

So, I say we could certainly stand to do more in that vein. I agree with the overall notion that D/P/Pl over-did with Legendaries, and we could stand to see less the next go-round.

Gaming / Re: MOTHER's Day
« on: May 06, 2009, 06:39:37 AM »
I'll admit it, Mother 3 was probably one of the few games that has actually made me shed manly, Hokuto no Ken-style tears.

Truly an awesome game, among games. And Vixy is right on point about rhythm battling. That, combined with "HP Rolling", has probably made it so that Mother 3 is probably one of the few "old-style" RPGs I'll continue to play to this dy.

837
To think that Gotcha Force (my fave underated GC game ever) is even ON the list, let alone at NUMBER 4...?

There IS hope for the human race, after all!  0v0

Overall, I love this list. Especially the love for Ogre Battle, DASH, ACE, Justice Gakuen (Rival Schools), Earth Defense Force and Jet Set Radio. That warms my normally cold heart.  8)

838
Ben, you got a point.

I just figured the whole "Small Pokemon only" would be a nice throw back to Pokemon Yellow and seems like something that would actually be done.

I agree that having any Pokemon follow you around is nice, but having a Wailord try to follow you on land is a bit much.

Maybe for certain Pokemon, unfortunately, such would have to be the case.

But still, I think the time is right to actually make it so at least the majority of the cast has their own, individual, overworld sprites/models that can either be in towns, or follow you around.

I mean, for goodness sake, it's not like they put that much in the way of innovation into each game, such "details" like this are certainly feasible for the area of "nice new perks".

839
You should add that if you start off with Pikachu (Or any other small Pokemon like it), you get the opition of it following you around like in Yellow.

See, I always had a problem with such a thing.

Why should it only be the "small and cute" Pokes that get such a privelege?

I mean, if I want to have any one of my usual pimps outside and following me around (Machamp, the Totodile family, the Charmander family, etc.), why shouldn't I be allowed to?

If nothing else, it would be cool to see these guys actually do more to use the likes of Strength, Cut, Surf and etc, while they're on the overworld with me. And those who could fly could trail behind me while I ride a bike!  0v0

I honestly always though Raph was the worst Turtle.  Mikey I always thought was pretty good, even thought I'm only somewhat good with him.

In order to be "doin' it and doin' it and doin' it WELL" with Raph, again, the basic thing was to think "CE Bison", with a few alterations:

Annoy people with your weak, yet very fast and high priority kicks, use your very good drill when the opportunity presents itself, and his projectile works well with his overall game. You won't be able to Hadouken-spam too much with it due to start up time, but there's no lag afterward. Don's projectile IS faster, but the bo-using turtle's also has quite a bit of lag on the back end, PLUS his hitbox is extended (due to that bo!). That's the kind of thing that a seasoned Raph player should just "Chest Buster" and turn the tide in his favor.  8)

Then there's Raph's Super. Easily one of the best in the game, because it does good damage, whether taken to the face, or blocked, meaning that it's pretty good to use as soon as you get the meter for it.

Also, like Mikey, Raph has set-ups that can lead to 100% Stun and 100% Life combo. You'll likely never get it off against a good opponent, but if you can, you'll make the opposition pay for their mistakes.  8)

841
@Acid - That and actual terrain influenced battles. I wanna tell my Pikachu to jump a Rhydon after climbing up a hill and hit it's drill too dammit. XD

Dynamic combat would definitely be something I could stand to see. Even a small, SRPG-like aspect like "height" advantage, and terrain would be nice starts.

Quote
PB - What you suggested would be labeled a Class 1 terrorist weapon, just because civilization & Japan would end as we knew them. XD

This is indeed true.  8D

My MaChamp awaits new challenges and to go on a tour of Johto, where his grandfather and I kicked much ass. I can't wait either...  0v0

Like I said, in the end, he's alright in the SNES. Probably easily A/B tier material.

But compared to Raph or Mike, it's no contest. They really are just S-class material.

843
I think they should add the ability to catch Celebi, just like I was able to do legally on the Japanese Crystal. :3

It would be about time.

I also hope that this would be the time that they take in order to fully flesh out the storyline that was just....dropped by like the end of G/S. The whole Team Rocket, Red-haired Bastard/Rival and Giovanni angle deserved much better than that.

And with the hints that were shed in the last few games....well, why not?  :)

Also, Don is always [tornado fang]ing broken in TMNT games, which is yet another reason he's so awesome.

NOT the case in TMNT Tournament Fighters, especially the case with  the SNES or Genesis versions (been a while since I played the NES one).

In the SNES version, Don was alright, but Raphael and Michelangelo were CLEARLY the best turtles in the game, and easily amongst the top tier of the game, overall. Between Raphael basically being SF2:CE Dictator, minus head-stomp and add a fireball, and Michelangelo being a CRAZY-GOOD Shoto/Charge character, it was no contest. For all the times that Mikey and Raph were low-tiered in other games (ESPECIALLY the first NES game), they really came into their own in the SNES TF release.

Then there was the Genesis release; an absolutely horrid, utterly silly game. Again, in that game, EVERYBODY had an infinite, stemming from just using their throw animation...except for Don! That automatically makes Don bottom tier in that game, for that reason alone! 8D

845
YOU ARE ALL WRONG.

THEY ARE ANNOUNCING POKEMON SNAP 2.

8)

Why can't it be both? The Wii could use a REALLY good Pokemon game, and a DS remake of G/S/C is inevitable.

#3. In 3 pages of this topic...
WHY HAS NO ONE MENTIONED THE GREATEST BOSS BATTLE THEME EVER IN THE HISTORY OF GAMING!!

I dunno, Blues-y. In my opinion, I'd give the arcade rendition of this song just a BIT of an edge, because I think it sounds more "foreboding".

But both versions are awesome, that much is indisputable.

I owned it and played it.

Absolutely HATED it. The fight system was wonky and unbalanced as NOTHING I'd ever seen before.

But hey, if it floats your boat...

...We sure we're talking about the same version, Tohno-kun?

Do you know what other turtles game deserves a remake?

Turtles Tournament Fighters. [parasitic bomb] rocked hard.

But I'm the only one who remembers (and owns) that game.

Oh, NO you're not!

Back in the days of Zsnes's fledgling online support, this was probably the number one game I liked to play with peeps. It really is a well made game, even if it's nothin' really revolutionary.

And that's to certain "Wii hookups", I've been able to start people playing the awesome SNES game again.

Just don't ask about that HORRID Genesis/Mega Drive game, where everybody except Don had a throw-infinite!  8D

I play as Raph usually, or Mike.

Same here, especially in the case of TiT and Hyperstone Heist.

In those games, I would like to think that if you really wanted to be a combo power-house, you stuck with the two bros that had short range weapons with good speed. That way, it's much easier to be able to grab suckers and toss 'em all over the damn place!

Well....after the interesting day I had at work, this was JUST the type of pick-me-up I needed. :)

...But really? No PSN release? Wii release details is dubious at best? C'mon, now guys! Screw the console wars, this should be something that EVERYONE should be allowed to play (as long as they have a current-gen system)! ^_^;

I'd also hope that they may just add more to the package deal. After all, if they're not just going to give us TMNT TiT the arcade port verbatim, they might as well just do more with it overall, even if they feel like they GOTTA divorce the 80s toon/Archie cartoon material present (Bebop, Rocksteady, and probably Slash too, unfortunately).

I mean, if it's just going to be the arcade port with a 3D skin and new music, they could have just given us the original, in all of us 2D glory, with the altered music.

Ah well....can I at least get "Pizza Power" as a song included, again?  8D
