Thanks again, y'all!  owob

And here's a last party favor!

much fuller scan of the first page. It also confirms Rei...as if there would be any doubt that THIS [shadow runner] wasn't going to appear.  8D

Well, I'm watching the Koei conference on Nico as I speak....and well...

AWESOME.

The game is far and away above what we've seen in musou games thus far. Animations are top notch, as is the battle system.

Oh, and I should mention....punks explode into bloody giblets.  >0< >0< >0< >0<

Only bad thing is that it's not the original VAs. But Kenshiro is being voiced by Kamina....yeah. THAT Kamina. It's all good....!

obvious from the start it would be original ZERO. the MMZ series design would not go well with the games art style. Remember that horrible SNK(?) sprite where they tried to make him  normal sized? Outside his 12-13 year old appearance, it looks horrible.

Like how he was in OBW's where he was kept that size that matched EXEs.

Not to mention that, a while ago, they basically said that all of the new additions (well, besides Ai-chan) to the game would be ones that were "familiar to Americans". That basically spelled X Zero, if any Zero.

Ah well. This is fine too. ^_^

Looks like there may be even hope for the non-importing crowd, after all...

PS3 and Xbox 360 owners can look forward to Hokutou Musou in Japan some time in 2010. Koei has not yet announced an English name or overseas release information.

You might recall a story we wrote last week regarding a Koei press conference that would see the unveiling of a new game from Dynasty Warriors Gundam producer Hisashi Koinuma. This does appear to be the mystery title. Koei has made an effort to invite the foreign press to the event. We'll take this as an indication that Hokutou Musou is being planned for international release.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/103/1034498p1.html

This, plus the fact that it is indeed being released on the 360 (something that would have little point, if this was going to be a JP-only affair), points to the notion of Ken and pals coming over here.

Not that it matters much to me. This is a DAY 1 IMPORT PURCHASE for me. I might even buy one of them 100USD "Treasure Packs" that Koei likes to do for their games, if it comes with some manly swag. 8D

And thanks for the B-day wish, Acid!

Edit: For whomever changed the name of the title...not to nitpick, but it's supposed to be "Musou".  '>.>

Ahhh...to have my favorite manga series represented so well....and for the reveal to come out today, of all days?

HAPPY B-DAY TO ME, INDEED!

Remember those old Goofy shorts where we saw a younger Max, or a boy that was Goofy's son?
We saw a mother for the little boy back then. It could have been her. Some also suggest it's Clarabelle Cow. >U<

Different "continuity".  8D

Back in those days, that son of Goofy was "Goofy Jr". The one that we know and love, circa Goof Troop, was the one that got the Max moniker.

It's like how "Pete Jr" was first showcased in one Donald Duck short, but that was a completely different character from PJ.

Yeah, I remember that!  owob

Strangely enough though, I wonder why they never used PJ. Or at least, I never saw any eps with him on it.

I'm more curious about that "thing" on the right. A much more beastly version of the Phantom Blot, or something?

Either way, this is SO mine when it lands. Screw the haters.

Since I'm just a BIT more excited for a new 2D-style Mario than a 3D-one? NSMB Wii is definitely high on my list atm.

The fact that Roy and the other members of the "Magnificent 7" are also back makes me VERY happy.

"This better be coming state side" is all I can say right now.

Hell, if Yakuza 3 is able to come state side, then this has a fairly good chance of it too.

There's really only two main things that would have to be addressed, prior to any Western release.

1) Legal Red Tape (if any). Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star has been a property that has changed hands multiple times in the West, thanks to various iterations reaching over here. If at least one of those parties still holds any measure of rights to Hokuto no Ken, that could be something that Koei Tecmo would likely have to contend with. Unless they could some how work something out, like Capcom did for TvC...

2) Will a HnK game sell? Lots of people like to swear up and down that they love HnK. But, really, the series has never made much in the way of head-way over here in the past. The Manga Entertainment DVD release for the original series didn't do well, and Raijin Comic's attempted marketing for both HnK and Souten no Ken also flopped (among other things). Thus, there really is NO precedent to give Koei Tecmo the "incentive" to think Americans will really care for a game starring Kenshiro and pals. Fundamentally speaking, a "Hokuto no Musou (Tensei)" game would have even more odds stacked against it, than even Gundam Musou did. At least most Americans can relate to Heero Yuy and Zechs Marquise.  8D

If any thing, maybe it might be better to hope that there are plans to release the game in Europe. HnK has always been popular in France and Italy, to say the least....  8D

Hmm.  All this might FINALLY be the stuff that actually gets me to take the game seriously again.

Guy, Cody and Adon alone are all great picks (who should have been there in the first place, in my opinion!  8D).

Ah yes....one of the games that's quickly become a "darling dark horse" over at GAF.  <3

Any way...yeah. This game looks great. And I also like how the "Custom" mode will allow you to both make your own character, and weapons. ^_^

If and when this game comes over here, I'm expecting to see RPM's best and brightest strut their stuff!

For right now, the only things that really have me amped about TGS are BASARA 3 and Yakuza 4. Nothing much else is really ringing my bell, unless Lords of Shadow is scheduled to reveal something new (doubtful, considering CV's rather poor state in Japan-land).

Gaming / Re: What defines 'Hard Mode'?
« on: September 21, 2009, 04:31:14 AM »
To me, the ideal Hard Mode is one that more or less has a gamer says to his/her gamer: "Alrighty...hopefully that first time through (or more, if you went "Easy" before Normal) gave you a good change to get acquainted with my mechanics. NOW it's time to see if you really got what it takes!" *proceeds to kick your ass in a tough but fair manner*

Viewtiful Joe and God Hand are some of my favorite examples of this style.

On the higher difficulties, the game didn't change THAT much. Enemy/Boss Patterns didn't change that drastically, and neither did level lay-outs. What did change though, was the expectation that you should know how to handle yourself, because now everybody hits harder, everybody is slightly quicker and the CPU certainly knows more of how to work things to its advantage. Will you be able to do the same?  8D

This is perhaps another thing that I'm REALLY hoping Bayonetta will deliver on. DMC3 and 4's higher difficulties didn't really do as much for me as I would have liked.

....I'm going to see if I can get Quickie to draw this.

GOOOOOOOD!  GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!

You wouldn't have to go far. Shadow Queen from PM:TTYD is practically this already. XD

Makes you wonder though....did that personality truly take over Peach's body wholesale, or did Peach just "allow it" to happen...maybe even thinking THIS was the opportunity that she always needed in order to be able to take over the world?

I mean, let's not forget that she offered Mario a chance to serve at her side.

"Come! Take your place at my side!"  8D

Gotta love how Peach Force-threw Bowser at the beginning.

Mhmm! Makes me wonder if not only does she know her political [parasitic bomb], she's a SITH LORD, freely manipulating Bowser and Mario as she pleases!  8D

I also motion that the Timed Body Slam and Sliding Haymaker be Bowser's new UpB and SmashB in SSB4.

Motion supported.

Timed Body Slam would really be a nice move for Bow-wow, because it would add an extra element from what is otherwise pretty much a stronger version of Yoshi's Down+B. And the Slider would be awesome as well....he'd gain more distance with more charge, but it would also make the lag frames last long as he "commits" to the move. XD

Hell, if some one really wanted to, they likely could modify Bowser in this way already, knowing the extensive modding scene going about Smash right now.

Bowser is amazing and I love him. As sad as this sounds, I actually got a bit depressed at times when you couldn't play as him. On a side-note, I won't be able to look at him the same thanks to Ben.

Hey, it's not just me though!

edit: though, I have to ask why a picture of Peach is in every Toad's house. It's not a big deal, but it seems a bit...odd to me.

Again, it's demonstrated just what kind of character Peach is. She knows she's the most powerful person, politically-speaking, in the Mario-verse, and definitely flaunts it as such.

Kim Jong-il ain't got nuthin on that heifer!  8D

Any way...yeah. I went and bought this game again, just for the sake of the NOA translation, which, of course, does NOT disappoint.

This is easily my fave Mario RPG right now, topping the spot that only its original progenitor occupied (M&L the first). That's saying a lot, in my opinion.

Next step? Again, Bowser REALLY needs his own game. He's proven again and again that he can carry games by himself. It's high time, in my eyes.

Personally, I wouldn't mind so much if Inafune wanted to collaborate with Bungie, in order to make a Rockman game (if so much was indeed the case, but I doubt it).

What would disappoint is probably if just turned out to be a FPS Rockman game.

I mean, besides the thing of how I don't care for FPSs (they make me get all queasy), it wouldn't speak any thing of Bungie trying to do more to stretch out beyond the mold of Halo. I believe they said that they wanted to do more than that, and if this next Halo game was truly going to be the last one for a while, then they would have that opportunity to start flexing some creative muscle.

...All that, and just to make a FPS Rockman game? That'd be disappointing, in many ways.

Plus, I could see the Japanese fan base stomaching such a thing even less, as FPSs historically don't perform all that hotly in Japan. And I could only fathom how some might react if, after waiting for DASH3 for so long, they only get it through the game being a true FPS...  8D

Plot thickens.

Any way, if what is said about the PS3 version IS correct, then I suppose there's nothing stopping them from putting in the PSP extras as DLC, or something.

Still, why would Bamco hold back info like this? I mean, most of us know by now that Tekken 6 is going to be hitting the PSP/PS3/360. It would just serve to make everybody (in Japan, at least) happy, at once, if they were willing to tell us what the score was.
