I expect Ganon to be absent from this one, sequel to MM and all.

...hmm... i just remembered there were a lot of epileptic trees about Majoras mask itself and Midnas helmet. I wonder...

Please. If they really want to bring the guy back, they will.

Of course, to me, it won't mean a thing to me, as long as Aonuma and crew seem to have a hard-on for using the red-headed dork, instead of the big blue Pig. Good grief, what would it take to bring the REAL Ganon back, hm?

How about we just say anyone who's ever played Eggman seems to do a good job at it?

Agreed. Still....Long John Baldry's version still echoes in my head the most when I play any of the old school games.

Eye candy never hurts, "good as is" or not. Street fighter was good as is and SF2 HD is sweet.

Plus like I said, if they do Sonic 4 right, it coult show that they can still make a decent sonic game.

Difference is, SSF2T HD was marketed on the premise of it ALSO being a rebalanced version of the game. For all sakes and purposes, it was a "new" game (or indeed, as much is as necessary when considering it as yet another SF2 update. 8D ). If such were otherwise, I wouldn't have seen the game doing but so well, because most would have been just like "Why couldn't you just do a new game, instead of redrawing a classic that didn't need it?!"

That sort of thing is appreciated for a game that has a heavy "versus/competitive" edge for it.

What would be the reason for making the older Sonic games "HD", in any sort of way? Just to pretty up the same games that we've had the opportunity to play for years now, especially if we count all the various ports for practically every major console released in the last few years, with YET ANOTHER on the way (DS Sonic Collection)?

No thanks, on this end. Save that time and money on trying to make sure that there are quality Sonic games to be made in the future. They already have an uphill battle with just Sonic 4, alone...

Ben, I wholeheartly don't want to see another electric rat, either. I'd much see something new, like living statues. :)

And hopefully Nintendo could do some proper balancing too, I still remember those times a few pokemon were broked. Bleh.

With all the supposed "new features" that they're supposedly going to put in the next game, it's either going to be more balanced, or even more broken than before. It's just how these types of things work.  8D

I wonder if they'll do anything relating to EVs, though. The finer intricacies of "Pokemon Eugenics" never did anything for me, and as the system is now, I don't see that changing. So I'm interested in seeing what they'll do this time around.

Honestly, I'm just hoping that they would do more to give some more third stages for those Pokemon that need it.

There's still plenty of expansion that could be used for the 1st two generations, such that they don't need to scrape the bottom of the barrel for new designs but so quickly.

Besides...any thing would be preferable to what they did with 4th Gen. "Oh wait! Now we have ANOTHER electric rodent!"  -u-'

I got most of the gameplay down now, but I'm still having some trouble with some things. For one, what do Baroque combos do and how do you get two supers going at the same time? I know you can do a 'chain' and go from one super to another, but I also know you can do each characters super at the same time, and I can't get it done. I did what the instruction manual said but nothing's happening.

Baroque = Basically, a more streamlined "Roman Cancel" (if you're familiar with Guilty Gear terms).

In other words, as you get hit, you'll have red life that you can choose to either tag out so you can get that health back, or you can do Baroque (Any Attack Button plus the Partner Button), and then you'll be able to cancel whatever move you did into a neutral stance.

One hand, it's great to use as a means to CYA. You whiffed a move, and set yourself up for retaliation? Baroque and make it so you can cancel it and block.
The other, and much more popular means, is a way to extend a combo. Even the basic motion of attacking going from weak->mid->strong, will end normally with the strong attack. However, with Baroque, you can extend the combo normally.

It's one of the most advanced, yet most useful things you'll have at your disposal in this game. Learn to use it properly, and you're on your way! ^_^

As for "double supers"? Trick there is to have at least 3 levels of meter. Do any one of your active characters Level One supers, and then IMMEDIATELY press the Partner button. If you did correctly, your partner should appear with you, and then do a corresponding super.

Sometimes I think it's be cool if Sega did remakes of their old sonic games, with HD and [parasitic bomb]. Would be cool.

Nah. Sonic 1-3.5 and CD are fine as is. Anything that could stand to alter them would be tantamount to messing with a good thing. No thanks.

At this point, I don't even know if I want Sega to touch an older, but much more obscure game like Knux Chaotix either. Chaotix was definitely not the best game in the series, but anything modern Sega could do to it would likely make it worse.

Wouldn't mind so much if AM decided to do another fighting game though. Or hell, just take their contributions, Bark and Bean (the two who actually appeared in Sonic the Fighters), and have them be the start of their own "franchise". Do it now, while most people don't even remember them as Sonic characters!  8D

At this point in time, what do they really have left to [twin slasher]? *Prays for Jet Set Radio to never get a revival unless actual proven talent does so*

Don't say things like that, man.

Some thing tells me I could STILL wake up one day, and find out something like say, a new Streets of Rage, which was turned into a GTA clone.  8D

The BEST we can hope for, is that maybe the likes of Sega's AM, the team behind Valkyria Chronicles, Treasure and/or P* (Bayonetta has done very well, so I can see more P* dealings in the future), all still do good stuff under the Sega brand name. Because really and truly? Everything else about Sega is definitely under the "needs improvement" heading, to say the least.

Gold Lightan vs. Yami.

What.  The.  F*@#!?!

Is it even POSSIBLE to avoid the hand's super-grab when you jump/dash slower than continental drift?  I had to button mash my way through (after several Continue screens).

You CAN Mega Crush out of it, in the beginning parts of the grab, if you have the meter to do so. And you should, it's not like you have a use for Lightan's supers in this fight any way.

You still lose a bit of life in the exchange, but the loss that comes from bursting is, of course, MUCH preferable to getting deadly hand lasers. 8D

Beyond that, follow the advice above. Use Baroque as a means to cancel out of whiffs, if it helps.

Well, I'm hoping and praying that running animation either proves the game is still early, or that it was indeed just a mock-up.

Otherwise......consider me cautiously optimistic. Will get for PSN.

I don't think I can take any more like that.

Prolly why I don't mind so much that Nintendo's NEW thing is more or less...."start the real hype...and the game comes in another month or two!"  8D

Do the damn thing, Gooch. Hopefully, this game may be the one that finally gives you and your studio its "voice".

But in any case, I must say, yesterday was practically better than most E3s and TGSs in the last few years! 8D

Mikami's game, even though it was just a teaser, had me hyped from the start of the day, and various other things came along and kept me there.  0v0

Yknow, I have to admit, they dug pretty deep for that Black Zero scheme.

They had to do some deep digging for this game, in its entirety.

I mean, I LOVE the fact they took Condor Joe's stance from later on in the first series. Jun has her rhythm gymnastics style that really made her come into her own in G2, and so forth, and so on.

In other news....my copy should hopefully be here by Monday. Can't wait. ^_^

Well, since the whole thing with the New Zealand casting and filming fell flat, I guess they needed something to keep the show going until they can resume doing what they do to current day Sentai.

Still....  8D 8D 8D 8D

I just can't believe Mega Crash takes health.

It should take Supers.

As was said above, it does indeed take Super Meter.

And to me, it's fine the way it is. It would be far too easy to spam, if there wasn't enough more of a "cost" to it.

I mean, Mega Crash not only functions as a "Burst", it's also a legitimate means to KEEP COMBOS GOING IN THE AIR. That much hasn't changed, even as this version of the game changes things up a bit.

Furthermore, if you're really good, the conversion of your life to "red! life" may only serve to further benefit you. Baroque may have taken a slight hit in usefulness in this version, but it's STILL quite good.

Thanks for your impressions, Blues. And indeed, I do look forward to the day I can take you all on in this game.

And X9 and Power Stone 3 both being in the top 4? What were the other two, did he say?

If NEITHER of them are "Darkstalkers", then something's wrong here.  8D

Just saw Joe's ending, his is now one of my favorites. There's an evil organiztion in town, what does he do? Blow them up with missiles. Repeat for every new on that appears XD

And it's so very appropriate, because of the running gag in Gatchaman. 8D

But BIRD MISSILES are indeed the answer to all of life's problems. Well, that and WITCH TIME.  8D

Now, in the Zero ending, the Udon art seems alright. But a number of the other endings look bad, in comparison to the originals.

In any case, it's still sad that more people won't be able to see the epic that is Yatterman's animated ending. And we just got Ai-chan too, no less!  8D

In the end, the English VA for Big IS voiced by the same man who voiced Duke Nukem. That alone makes him awesome.  8D

Truly though, the likes of Vector, Espio and Big? They could have been characters in OTHER games, but just HAD to be shoe-horned into Sonic mythos, were they are horribly used and/or underutilized.

I mean, some one like Treasure could have made decent games starring Vector and Espio many moons ago. But noooooooo....they just had to be made Sonic series characters.  8D

This multiplied by 5 in the Sonic 1 Megamix Hack (Which is amazing, and hard.). Damn Caterkillers are EVERYWHERE, its hard to hit them with a homing attack because it tends to hit the spot where you get hit and not the head. really annoying.

To me, I appreciated that. The designers wanted to make sure that, even if you were playing a character who had the Homing attack, you were not meant to rely on it whole sale. Beyond Caterkillers, there were plenty of other opportunities that you could have gotten your ass slammed and jammed by misusing a homing attack, like with all of the extra Eggman Monitors that were strewn about the place.  XD

Truly a shame that a fan game hack does more to "get" what a modern day Sonic game could stand to be, while Sega's own continues to flounder about.

Gaming / Liked Street Fighter 4? Looking forward to Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:16:29 AM »
Well, if those games have been stroking you right, you might want to get used to what they have to offer. Capcom may be sticking with the "2.5D" look for a while now.

Quote
Capcom made quite a splash in 2008 when their near reboot of Street Fighter IV combined the depth and detail of 3D graphics placed over the traditional controls and mechanics of a 2D fighting game.

The developers liked the 2.5D effect so much they decided to apply it to upcoming Wii fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars and producer Ryota Niitsuma tells Kotaku that all Capcom fighting games for the foreseeable future will also use the visual effect.

"I think that was the best way to present the Capcom and Tatsunoko characters to their fullest," Niitsuma said through a translator. "I think at Capcom one of our specialties is 2D fighting action and we have had a great history of making games like that.

"The 3D models on a 2D plane is a very good match and all of the (game) systems are capable of supporting such a feature. When making such games we can show our knowhow. Going out into the future I can't say it will remain like this forever, but for the forseeable future I can see us making our games in this style."

This shouldn't really be but so shocking to any body now, but at least it seems to be more or less plain now.

My thoughts? I don't care that much, really. TvC and SF4 have pretty much shown that Capcom can basically make 2D style fighting games just fine in 3D. Hell, some characters have been animated in SF4 than they've ever been in the past (see: Dhalsim and Chun-li).

Now...how about that Vampire/Darkstalkers game Ono wanted to work on so badly, hm, Capcom? Different art style, Vampire Savior mechanics, and we'd be in business, in my eyes.
