This guy is one of my favorites. He's evil, badass, and he can easily kick your ass without you being able to do anything about it.

See, I would have liked this guy a lot more, if he did more than just basically copy Geese and Krauser's swagg. As it stands right now, he's still a memorable boss in his own right. But Geese is the REAL deal!  8D

Granted, it's a Nintendo handheld system, so it probably doesn't even need any help selling itself.  But I'm sure Ninty has something in mind.  Like someone said earlier in the thread, a 5th Gen 3-D Pokemon game would be pretty 3-Delicious.   8D

Frankly, that's the LEAST of what I'm expecting. New Pokemon game, just in time to be marketed with a new machine to play it on. The fact that we now have this new console confirmed, plus the notion that it is CONFIRMED to be backwards compatible with the DS?

Nintendo would own Japan this Winter Holiday season with Pokemon alone, effectively. This is just like dropping several megaton bombs at once!

478
I can see it happening simply because it's what we in the biz refer to as "A Super Mariofuckin' System Seller!"   8D

Well, that too, of course.

On the other hand, as some one said on NeoGAF: "New Super Mario Bros 3DS" works on so many levels for it to NOT be in the oven. Of course, that would assume that they stick with "3DS"...  -u-'

See? Now even Nintendo's shares have gone up since this announcement! (Expected, since they're sheep minded, but whatever).

Dunno how much more proof you need than that this is very real.

3-D New Super Mario RPG, Ben?

Ya know, part of me could see that happening, if only because Square Enix knows it could use an easy way to get at the upcoming 3DS fan base, in a way that an original or remake FF game couldn't hope to do.

It wouldn't be a platformer, exactly, but it WOULD still be a Mario game launching with the platform. And for both Ninty and Squeenix, that could be all that matters.

Gotta give it to Bowser here.

I can't think of too many characters, much less villains, who are able to flow between two main archetypes (imposing, menacing badass, as well as the lovable oaf) so well, from game to game. Hell, in the recent M&L3, you could argue he did just that within the context of ONE GAME.  owo

The best thing is, it just "works" and is seen as something that works well with the character. For example, I couldn't see the likes of Wario and Dedede being "bad-ass threats", any more than I could see Ganon(dorf) or Ridley being relegated to "comic relief". If you were like me, trying to imagine such would likely make your head hurt. The notion of such would likely cause a conflicted image of what you perceive the characters as. Yet, Bowser is able to walk this thin line of "believe-ability" and do it well.

Plus, you gotta give it to a guy who runs a highly industrial Empire with efficiency, and seemingly has enough charisma-inspiring loyalty that his minions follow because they WANT to, not because of the usual "you know the price of failure...!" type of thing that can be so normal for a lot of villains in any medium. Even his brat pack (canonically, in the games, at least) don't seem to have any interest in trying to usurp his throne, seemingly content to let Pops stay in charge. The fact that Junior went through the trouble of resurrecting his Pops, instead of taking the throne for himself (when he certainly could have) speaks to me a lot.  :V

So, for him being in the business almost as long as Mario himself, I think that Bowser deserves just as much credit as the man himself. Because after all, a hero only remains as great as the villain(s) he combats, right?  owob

Runner-up: POKEY/PORKY (Mother series). From being the annoyance in Mother 2/EB, to a megalomaniac that made me actually love to HATE the guy in M3. This guy caused a lot of strife for many people in the Mother-verse, and did it in a way that just showcased what kind of guy you were REALLY dealing with all along. Bravo to Itoi for excellent writing regarding this guy.

It is, why they always ''leak'' a lot of stuff these days (before april starts) ?

I want to see the faces of each one of you when they ''confirm'' this console

It's real. This was a gradual thing leading up to when new Ninty hardware was confirmed, starting around GDC. If nothing else, this particular announcement was more of a thing to keep Ninty's stockholders happy (the Japanese fiscal year is over in a few days), with us just doing more to benefit from the "run-off". 8D

If this was a bunch of trolling, then there would be a whole hell of a lot to answer for. Nintendo's official name, and the name of some many credible JP publications, such as nikkei, are on the line, now. With that all said, you can rest assured this is real, even if we don't know much else in the way of specs just yet.

Wonder if the 3DS has anything to do with the game Charles Martinet was working on?

'Cause I'd love to see a new portable 3D Mario.

You wouldn't be the only one. And a new Ninty console needs a Mario platformer to launch with it. I'd like something original, as opposed to say, just a port/remake of Sunshine.

Of course, on the other hand, some other select parties have been relatively quiet as of late. IntelSys and even Square Enix have not really shown their hands. Maybe either of them could be a part of this particular mix...?

482
Imagine if they announce a 3D Bowser game!

If that were the case, it would be thing that I wouldn't even WAIT for the import to arrive at my damn house. I would PERSONALLY find a way to be in line, in Japan, to get my console and game! (HUGE LIE!)  XD

BTW, would now be a good time to re-enter pleas for a handheld Virtual Console?  'cuz with a 3D machine coming, I'm thinking Mario Clash for the masses that were turned off by gaming in a View-Master.

Now, the only thing here is that, even for the likes of Virtual Boy, it would require emulation of some sort. And why go through that much trouble, for like the 2-3 games that really qualify for such a thing?

If anything, I see this as a possible opportunity to remake and "re-envision" those games. Mario Clash, Wario Land VB and/or maybe even that canceled Mario Land game that never saw the light of day. And Atlus could compliment by bringing back Jack Bros!  8D

Otherwise, if we're truly talking like GCN tech in the palm of my hand, then yeah, the time is prime for a real VC for the upcoming Nintendo portable.

483
But they did if you're Japanese, or European, specially European.

I can feel for our PAL brethren, as theirs is a hard lot as it is.  >w<

But if you're Japanese? Theirs is different, in light of how Ninty is prone to putting out multiple versions of the same SKU in a single quarter, much less the overall year. If you're a collect-a-holic that's gravy, but for most normal people, it's just a matter of picking and choosing, or if you just want to wait it out.

So in other words, this is pretty standard MO for their side of the pond. I'm expecting this, much like DSi before it, will probably launch some where in October/November.

HnB GET.  owob

484
Fascinating. And I agree with Jeri, Nintendo pretty much went for the jugular, right here and now.

Makes sense though. While Sony and Microsoft are going for the motion-sensing pissing contest this coming E3, Nintendo will stand to generate the most hoopla by actually announcing a new successor for this generation of hardware. It helps that said successor is to the console that TRULY won this console war any way.  8D

Speculation of Rosalina's appearance aside, I think that the NSMB-style world map would be better than the hub world. [parasitic bomb]'d be cash.

And that's probably what Nintendo was thinking about, from the jump.

NSMB and its "Wii-cessor" were smashing successes because of their simplicity, fun and "easy-to-get-into-ness". A hub world would more than likely do more to confuse some people who just want to "get to the next stage immediately, like they could in NSMB. So, it's likely that the fact that NSMBWii was going to debut first probably lit up a few lightbulbs on how to do smart design that would garner more casual gamers. And for the rest of us, it'll just end up being more streamlined.

Besides, as some one else brought up on GAF, the "hub world" has done a lot to outlive its usefulness, as far as 3D Mario is concerned. It was awesome in 64, and it did a lot to help you learn the controls and orient yourself, playing as Mario in a 3D world. But since then, it's not as "special" any more, and it's only done more to get redundant as time goes on.

So, for the sake of, again, streamlining, I can dig this.

We know story is going to be minimized, but I still think we have plenty of reason to see her again.

Maybe...just maybe...? Bowser finally sees that Rosalina might be a possible better catch than Peach, and realizes that she'd be perfect to "see what life is like on Jupiter and Mars".  8D 8D

New news, that may not be what everybody wants to hear. But here we go!

Quote
We first speculated on it last month, but now it's confirmed: Super Mario Galaxy 2 will abandon the hub worlds featured in the plumber's other 3D adventures in favor of a traditional world map. Shigeru Miyamoto explains, "You can think of it in terms of something similar to Super Mario World or New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where you will have a rather convenient map to navigate."

He continues, "We want players to focus on the joy of the action instead of getting to each game course. We wanted to make it as accessible as possible and as easy as possible for the players. Also because we’re going to incorporate a number of different stars and conquering all the stars is going to be one of the most challenging missions for the player, we want them to understand as easy as possible where they should go next and which places they should go back to in order to get access to the remaining stars."

Me? Personally, this doesn't hurt me that much. If there was any "weakest link" in Galaxy in my eyes, it would be the hub world. It just didn't have the whimsy that 64's castle gave me, and by the time I completed the game once, I would have been happier with a "level select" of some sort any way.

So, far as I'm concerned, it's better to go back to the style of 3/World/YI one more again, especially if they bother to load it up with hidden secrets and the like. Plus, if the story facet is being tossed by the wayside any way, then this likely won't affect much else. Won't be surprised if the Toads and other character interactions are still to be found within the castles themselves.

Additionally, maybe this might be a thing that benefits Yoshi. After all, maybe it could be a thing that he could stand to be an "item" that could be "stored" on the map select, so that you could opt to go into a stage with or without him. Or maybe he'll just a pussy and refuse to enter into some select stages, like back in World.  XD

But basically, I guess I'm alright with this. But what of you guys?

B) Hated by Sega/Sonic Team's inner sanctum of Execu-bots, including that one President or whoever we have on record saying he hated the Genesis games. Those reasons are why.

You mean the same guy who basically gave a middle finger to when the games had ACTUAL platforming and momentum-based speed? The same guy who said that "Sonic is not for you!" (implying that nobody over 13 has no right to complain about the series)? 8D

Is there any wonder why guys like me can't stand guys like him, for all he does to just serve as an all too apparent reminder that Sega/Sonic has no idea what the flying [tornado fang] they're doing with the franchise? 8D

Honestly, are you going to condemn the entire game for one [tornado fang]ing animation that's probably going to be going by too fast for you to even tell in the first place?

Oh no. I'm not going to be that limited in scope.  8D

Since the game has been revealed, you can at least say I've been CONSISTENT. I've not liked what I've been seeing since the jump. This has just been yet another thing that has been added on to that list.

Say what you will about Capcom's efforts, but at least in the last two 8-bit games, you can say that they didn't make any thing that has been outright TRIFLING in scope, much less anything that could be described as "not worthy of being another number attached to an established series". Same could be said for the likes of SF4 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which are both games that fell in line with their respective "series".

But again and again, and as more has been revealed, this game, has proved that it is not worthy of being called "Sonic the Hedgehog 4". And that is where my entire issue with it lies. If they had called it ANYTHING else, the game could have been judged on its own merits. But this game is clearly not going to be anything worthy of being compared to the 16-bit anthology, and thus, the "Sonic 4" title is nothing more than a title in name.

And that, my friends, is why I'm going to continue to be unapologetic in my lambasting of this game. Far as I'm concerned, this is yet ANOTHER stunt to "take him back to his roots" for the umpteenth time, and I'm sick of it.

Mamiya prolly took him to school so badly because the guy didn't believe in BLOCKING!  8D

I'm sure Mamiya can be handful, since she's long-ranged based, but the guy basically gave her free license to steamroll his ass by blocking quiver shots with his face. 8D

wow. that was a weird choice. why couldnt they just, you know, done the "wheel" on its own? Like old sonic? this DOES look weird.

It's sad when Sakurai got Sonic right in Brawl, late to the party as the blue blur was back then, and yet, Sega/Sonic/Dimps are doing things of this nature for what is supposed to be Sonic the Hedgehog 48D

Honestly, I'm hoping there's a better collection for the PS3.

Fix'd for my specifications.

All I know is that same leaked Sega document from last year that talked about Vanquish (P*'s Mikami game, PS3/360), also talked about a "Sonic Blu-Ray Collection". If they were literally able to cram EVERY old Sonic game on there, with perfect emulation, that would effectively be the last Sonic-related thing I'd have to buy. Doubly so, if it included both Original and American OSTs of Sonic CD.  [eyebrow]

Seriously, as a fan of TC, seeing this game, which they've been concieving over the course of EIGHT YEARS, and actually working on for three, it makes me happy to see this. DAY 1 IMPORT.  <3

Any way, it technically IS TC2, since it takes place in the same world, and involves the same race of dogs and cats with their sweet-ass mecha. It just is another adventure that seemingly takes place in a different part of the 'hood from where Waffle and pals played around.

Really only need one of those plot points; too many cooks spoil the broth. And again, the Koopalings need a rest, now, what with NSMBWii and all.

Why do they need a rest when they, quite literally, just re-appeared? And with re-designs, no less? For all sakes and purposes, they've been re-launched as "new additions" to the fold and introduced to a new generation of gamers.

Give me another "mainstream" game, or even a spin-off/RPG appearance, and then I would be more willing to relent. But I'm not about to do so when I can more than likely count on seeing GYAT. DAMN. BABIES. in another (spin-off) game some time soon, much less continue to tolerate the presence of other second-string characters like Petey, Waluigi and Daisy for this last decade and some change.

But hey, turn-about is fair play! Let's talk about Rosalina, shall we? She just did appear in Mario Galaxy, then the following year's Mario Kart Wii, and you can more than likely can count on seeing her again in MG2. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a regular in Mario sports games before they would even think about say, Captain Syrup.

Still, ol' girl is in no danger of being "over-exposed", right...? owob
