The closest thing to that post 64 was General Scales, and what a cop-out that turned out to be.

To play Rareware's advocate, that's an example of what happened when Rare was probably out of time, and there was likely plenty of things they couldn't hope to resolve in the transition from the original DP to what we got with the Star Fox bastardization. The Scales character model is there, and it can even be interacted with (for some fun, put on the "Camo" disguise, and Scales will follow Fox around like any of the other mooks 8D). It's just that whatever boss battle they had planned got ultimately canceled out. 8D

It's really a shame too. Scales was an interesting character. But he HAD to get shoved out of the limelight just so that they could throw ANDROSS IN THE MIX FOR NO REASON!!!!  8D

Let him. As seems to be the shared sentiment over at GAF, it would be so much in the way of a win-win situation. Ninty stands to get a quality Star Fox release for the first time in over a decade, and Kamiya will get a game of his that likely will sell gangbusters for the first time since the days of RE2.

Plus, it's clear that Kamiya, After Burner fan boy that he is, more than has an adequate "knack" for this. Lord knows he's been trying to force-feed us his love for corridor shooters in his various gamers, often to the over-the-top degree that embodies his very games.  8D

Besides, I'd love to see what he could do with Fox. After a decade's worth of furry melodrama married with poor game play, it'd be nice to put Fox back on the track of over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek humor that would directly speak to those of us who love the first two games. Or at least, certainly SF64.  owob

Nintendo, if you don't do anything else to listen to fan suggestions in the next decade and some change...PLEASE. DO IT.

It's in a specific MvC2 song.  I forget which.

I believe that was the song that played in the caves.

"....AND I WON'T LET YOU GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!" [/song that played on the river] 8D

Any way, what's everybody's thoughts on possible bosses for this game?

Mags, Doom, Thanos, Pooky and Onslaught were all pretty nice bosses to have in past games. Not only because of their Saturday Morning connection for some of them, but the likes of Thanos and Onslaught being the end bosses played heavily on what was going on in comics during the 90s, at each respective point.

Admittedly, I've fallen off. I haven't been an avid, die-hard Marvel reader in some time. But whether they want to go with some thing more recent, or perhaps dredge up a classic 80s/90s thing like Dark Phoenix, I'm hoping that Capcom can deliver that boss with justice once more. Or hell, maybe we can have it so that a Capcom Boss (...Sigma?  8D) can come into the fray too.

Guess I'll still look forward to it and hoping it doesn't end up being broken..

random note: Hokuto- You play STHD or 4?

Nah. Neither of those games really did anything for me.

Though once I get everything set up on my new lappie, maybe some GGPO will be in order. You play Vampire Savior or KOF 98/02?

He also said that MvC2 is one of the best fighting games ever created, so already his opinions are tainted in my eyes.

It's not a fighting game! It's a RTS!  8D

But any way...while a part of me hopes that Capcom won't shy away from other opportunities, it is good to see MAHVEL back in force. But still, the Vs. brand is practically as versatile and marketable as Koei's Musou brand. To limit it to simply Marvel would be a disservice, in my eyes.

Also, as far as music is concerned? 90s-style techno is, indeed, THE ONLY ANSWER, in my eyes.

Juste was cool...

He's alright. The main thing is that IGA's secondary Belmont had no right being part of the supposed "Greatest 5". Not before Christopher, certainly.

Yeah, I don't care what other people think, make this feel more like Tatsu than MvC2.

I wouldn't even worry about such a thing. Chances are, this is going to use the TvC engine (or an evolution of it), which would basically make some one's life a lot easier if they could afford to reuse the Capcom models from TvC almost wholesale, leaving them to focus on the Marvel side instead.

The only other way would entail basically using CPS2 era sprites (again). But I don't see that happening, because it would still rely on Capcom/some one making a slew of new sprites, and Capcom has said time and time again that they don't have the means to make a 2D sprite-based project happen.

Either you stumbled upon this phrase by accident or I get the hint that you play fighting games competitively like myself.  ;)

owob

But yeah, the Marvel-style Versus series, broken as every entrant may be in some shape or form, is still special to me. MvC1+2, alone, sold me a Dreamcast, for example.

So, I look forward to this. Especially if it stands to be an evolution of what TvC started.

I enjoyed playing lament of innocence. :D
EDIT: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/108/1082798p1.html
so I was reading this and I was like O_O

Indeed.

Quote
Even more surprising is the previously undisclosed fact that there were in fact a number of prototypes in parallel development competing to continue development as the current generation's Castlevania resurgence. "Konami came to us and said 'Japan is going to pitch, America is going to pitch, and you guys are going to pitch. We'll pick one" to make the series exciting again, Cox told me.

If this is indeed true...then I guess this is the best answer we may get as to the fate of that "Alucard game" from IGA's people.

Ah well!  owob

Ok, so the Marvel.com editor tweets he's at Honolulu to show the media something super secret, Capcom's Captivate is at Honolulu. Same guy also mentions it'll all be revealed next week, the NDA for Captivate ends next week.

Now lets try putting two and two together XD

Yeah, it's looking all but confirmed now.  >0<

I like how there's also going to be two other games revealed, but nobody else cares cuz well....there's a highly probable chance of "IS MAHVEL BAYBEE" on the horizon.  8D

Yeah, that's what irks me about LoS the most. I want to see what happens with the new Alucard game.

Unless it was a 2D game, I can afford to wait. Nothing that IGA and his posse have done in the 3D arena thus far has given rise to showcase that they really know what they're doing with trying to make a 3D game.

Don't kill my dreams!

You should be telling that to these no name blogs like GoFanboy. Again, a blog created a mere 4 months ago should not be trusted as a worthwhile source. They're only doing [parasitic bomb] like this for hits. And the more you help spread this stuff spread around, the more you're only helping them. 8D

Any way, the basic thing is, this game is the start of its OWN thing. It's a reboot, and not utilizing IGA's story in the least.

If IGA and his own PS3/360 game are still out there, it will likely be something for his version of the series, while this game remains mutually exclusive.

GoFanboy? ...  8D

When a more reputable source of news arises, then maybe I'll take notice. But GoFanboy is just another faceless blog that was crafted like a month or so ago. It doesn't even have HipHopGamer's level of "credibility".  8D

There is that, but why does the series even need a reboot? That's my question.

In a number of respects, it could stand to be a good thing.

Let's face it, the IGA-vanias have done a lot to paint themselves into a corner. It's either continue to drag out more redundant/unnecessary storylines like what we got in PoR and OoE, or finally do the 1999 game, which would effectively do a lot to make the notion that they are "trapped" all the more apparent.

And then there's just the thing that this game could effectively represent a new "page" for the series, not unlike what SOTN did over a decade ago. And if that much is so, well, then perhaps it's for the better that MercuryStream and Kojima do more to be able to tell their own stories, instead of having to work around IGA's cockamamie "time line".

Mirby wins this round. I lost it at TeQuan. XD XD XD

Shaniqua alone was enough.  owob

Any way, it seems tomorrow's Pokemon Sunday probably won't tell us too much. Reportedly, we're REALLY not going to get much of anything substantial until the 15th.

But I'm half black & half white.  WHICH ONE WILL I CHOOSE?  I MIGHT HAVE TO GET BOTH ON SHEER PRINCIPAL ALONE!

No, Blues. THE TIME HAS COME! "One drop" principle states that the choice is CLEAR for you, my brutha! 8D

Any way, interesting that they went straight monochrome this time. I wonder if that was for an actual reason, and not just cuz they didn't have any better picks for colors/basic elements. Could this going back to such basic colors mean some thing more...?

For example, one thing I've always thought was interesting was how there's been a thing of how the games told snippets of what the world was like back in the olden days of man and mon. In HG/SS, they even went forth to tell you that Apricots used to be the way they got [parasitic bomb] done when they wanted to catch some Mons. So, I'm wondering...maybe instead of just going to a new region, this time, maybe they could throw us for a loop and into the context of an older era, itself. One where we have to use the Apricots, and get access to a slew of Pokemon that would otherwise be possibly extinct in the "modern" era.

If nothing else, it could be an opportunity for a nice change, storyline and aesthetic-wise, even as a number of things still remain the same. (Re: instead of "gyms", it could be "dojos" dedicated to a certain type of Pokemon instead. 8D)

Not to mention Celebi being at least ONE Pokemon that can time travel would always leave the opportunity for these types of shenanigans to take place in the first place... 8D

Nameless and Angel I can see, since Nameless more or less is the ultimate retcon of a character replacement, and SNK still likes Angel. But why would Kula fool around with them, when she has her boy-toy K'? 8D

If any thing, I'm thinking Heidern acknowledges that [parasitic bomb] is going to likely get even realer in the wake of the Ash Saga's conclusion, and thus, requires the Ikari force to be expanded. Or possibly call upon their buddies in the Metal Slug platoon...?  [eyebrow]

Seeing K', Kula and Maxima makes me a happy man.

Hopefully, a future game will add in a way for Whip to come back. Yes, Leona and the two guys are the more or less established Ikari Warriors, but with K's team seemingly a lock (this is the exact same force from XI), Whip's going to need either Heidern, or possibly another force to join up with...
