Gaming / Re: Sonic Classic Collection
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:51:15 PM »
My friend picked this up yesterday, so we all got to try out some of it. I played up till Carnival Night in S3K. And I noticed quite a bit of inconsistencies.
  • For some stupid reason, the game select calls S3K "Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3."
  • There are no multiplayer modes or options menus.
  • Sound effects sometimes don't come out right. Like if you release a spin dash as soon as you start it, you won't hear the "pshoo" sound, just the revving sound.
  • There is more lag in places. And the game in general does run slower than normal. Probably due to a reduced framerate.
  • The background in the magnetic spheres bonus stage is [tornado fang]'d up.
  • There's a lot of flickering in the special stages. The ground jitters so much at times, it's nauseating.
  • During a boss fight, you can slowly scroll more of the screen thanks to the cropping done.
  • Upon completing an act, the screen will move a bit closer to the center, so your character might get cut off during the score tally.

All in all, though, it's still playable. If you really really want to play the Genesis Sonics on the go and haven't already put emulators on your portable devices, you'll be just fine with this.

Can he run it on an emulator and try to force the menu option to be selected through RAM hacking?

Off The Wall / Re: Because I'm teaching...
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:07:52 PM »
Alright, so this summer, I'm going to be teaching a couple of English classes for a summer program that I've worked for for a few years now. I'm sure everyone has gone through school here. I'm trying to get my happy curriculum all planned out for the students and I was wondering what kinds of things interested you in your high school English class (or equivalent). Were there any books, short stories, poems, etc., that you really enjoyed? Any special things you did at all that piqued your interested? Anything I should keep in mind?

The students will be getting a hefty dose of wacky. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a humor nazi. :p

The first book you read should be...
Ray Brabury
Farenheight 451

Not because it's a good book, but because it's such a bad book.

Like those videos about herpes.

Second should be...
Of Mice and Men
Have your class read it outloud. Hilarity Ensues.

Third should be...
Suggesting they find time to read Journey to the West.
Don't read it in class.

Make a reading assignment out of a short manga(preferably something that teaches them something).
Dororo, Cyborg 009, Oishinbo
For irony, bring copies in Japanese. For April Fool's(if it's part of Summer) bring Dragon Ball and stack in one column on your desk. Threaten punishment whenever someone walks by and knocks it over.

Also, all good teachers need posters

Replace "Help Desk" with "Teacher"

Off The Wall / Help Setting Up a BBS Using NAS
« on: March 06, 2010, 08:06:36 PM »
I want to set up some BBS software to run on a LAN. I already have the NAS setup.

Any type of BBS is fine. It doesn't have to be BBS style.

Anything where one can post things.

PS: In before, "Use a shared TXT file".

PPS: Typing up a mock BBS in a TXT file would be humourus though.
