He is pressured by everyone else around him to stay out of the musical because he's gotta get his head in the game. The song is by no means saying status quo and hiding your true self is a good thing, despite its utter lack of antagonistic tone.
There's an actual song in High School Musical about being a mindless copy drone and submitting to stereotypes instead of doing what you want to do?

So while in line at college orientation today i almost got a job offer. The guy behind me heard my mention of going into the Broadcast Radio program and he just happened to work as a technician of sorts at one of the local stations. He gave me a number to call, but it's not really possible to apply or work there right now whilst I still lack a driver's licence. Pretty neat chance all the same.

For seemingly no reason I've been doing a run of Ys II Chronicles+ on the highest difficulty, 'Nightmare'. EVERYTHING HURTS. At least this one has a ranged attack to keep distance from enemies. It's also the only way to fight all but 2 bosses anyway. Not sure if I'd be willing to Ys I on Nightmare because direct combat is the only option in that game and the level cap is 10 so damage is probably scaled even worse.

having just played Splinter Cell, I'm thinking to pick up that Touhou one. Reimu's outfit bugs the hell outta me though.
