Sad to say, this is a problem in a lot of studios. Not to downplay the message, quite the opposite; the fact that this is common makes it even more sickening.

Almost done Rurouni Kenshin. All the stuff that wasn't in the manga is just as bad as I remember. I don't always mind filler, but when it's bad... ugh.

Yeah, it's fun. The writing (so far) is better than it's predecessors, although I hear at the end it's not so great... but I'll decide that for myself once I get there, I guess.

I'm enjoying it! It feels like an old school Final Fantasy, right down to the story. The demo should give you an idea whether you'd like the general gameplay or not.
