Gaming / Re: David Wise Leaves Rare.
« on: November 15, 2009, 08:24:16 AM »
If I remember, Microsoft was doing a serious restructuring of Rare after Banjo-Kazooie NaB proved to be a commercial flop (Sonic Unleashed, a rival platforming adventure title released a little after NaB, demolished the game on 360 alone.) Pretty much, think of Rare being on probation with Microsoft. Another botched effort on a major title and I guarantee you that you'll be reading on your preferred news site that Microsoft will dissolve the studio entirely and be done with it. That time is getting pretty close unless Rare pulls out a Hail Mary of a title.

Failing that, it makes me wonder if Microsoft will begin to offer Rare's franchises in a fire sale to other developers.
... Is it bad that I got annoyed when I saw "Rare" and "Mary" in the same sentence? Anyone who's played Tooie will know exactly what i mean.

They should just redo all their old games with new graphics and such, much like Conker. That would be guaranteed money for them.

All I know is, SMW2 played nothing like any Mario game before it. It felt forced and artificial then, just like DKC's gameplay (...or was that just a lack of polish on the physics?), and now it all makes sense.
Sooo you dislike it because it's... different? I don't think I quite get what you mean by forced and artificial, considering it didn't really feel like DKC.

... SMW2 was freaking awesome though. DKC 1&2 were both good (I'm iffy on the third one), and while the two N64 Banjo-Kazooie games were indeed collectathons, I don't see the logic behind
combined with areas that couldn't be accessed until you had a specific power.
Honestly, a lot of games work in this fashion, and it works well with adventure games.

The only thing I really agree with in your post is the Starfox Adventures thing, but that's mainly because the characters were just slapped in for the heck of it. Also, the last boss was a disappointment.

Yeah, pretty sure it quickly became obvious why ninty got rid of Rare. Too bad, too, because I really liked their games.

May Mr. Wise find good work somewhere else.

I fail to see your logic. Axl doesn't need to die if he's the final boss, first of all. Again, X5 shows that they can fight without the other dying. Make him being controlled by Lumine's remaining data or something, it's not that hard to come up with something to back it up.

And yeah, I liked the Awakened Zero story arc the best. It was the most interesting one of the bunch in X5. The only part I found lame about it was X forgetting Zero, but otherwise I liked it the most.

Not as a final boss, and Awakened Zero scenario never happened storywise.
IOW, he can be a boss as long as he is still playable afterward.:l
That's... not an excuse. The fact is they had him as a boss and one outcome is that you can't use Zero from then on, storyline or not (although I kinda wish that's how it happened officially).

Bringing back Ganon is just fine. I mean, traveling back to Hyrule to take the Master Sword would be great. But this... this just kinda made me facepalm. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for many many things, but this somehow doesn't fit under that category :P

Concerning not having playable characters as a boss... umm... X5?

The game lost my interest at phantom train Ganon. There's things I'm willing to accept, but that kinda killed my interest. Then again, if it turns out to be good, I'll be more willing to give it a chance, but at this point in time... nah.

News and Announcements / Re: Beat Mega Man games for charity!
« on: November 13, 2009, 01:01:30 AM »
And soon those stupid news reporters will see that videogames can raise money too! Not just other stuff that no one wants to go to, like somesilly dinnner, or some kind of dance, or a walk-a-thon, who wants to walk to raise money? Why not do something fun to raise money?
Anyways, I am glad this will help others in need and further brighten the future.
Doubt it, it goes against what they want to see/believe.

Good for OCT though, it's a good cause. They might want to fix the header on their site though.

Captain Keene needs to lay off the booze a bit... or maybe he needs more. Undecided at this point, depends entirely on his situation 8D

Rachel McAdams is possibly the Black Cat in Spidey 4

I approve.
As long as the writing of the movie is better than the previous outing.

I dunno, I had a hard time with the first one too. I think the Autobots sneaking around the house was where I lost hope for it. What made the second one anywhere near tolerable were the reactions of the friends I was watching it with... so great XD

At least it's plot made sense from start to finish, despite the deviations.

Nothing all that wrong with deviation from the source material. The problem with Transformers 2 was that it made no sense even as a stand alone movie.

There're way too many roads on that map for that to be Canada.

Hell, I thought Transformers 2 was/is the worst movie of the year, but it made a fuckton of money, so they're going to make a 3rd.
This statement makes me so so sad. Other movies, while perhaps not true to the source material, could at least stand on it's own as an OK movie. The same can not be said of that trainwreck.

As for Miyamoto, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. It's not just him coming up with ideas, y'know.
