Some of the difficulty is well designed, yes. It's not consistently that way though.

Fxeni finally finished tinkering with Yamalok. Now there are four scythe slots on both edges of the weapon, to provide cutting power in two beams. The spear tips have been widened, and have been tweaked so that the beam blade would have a further reach and power output. That should do, Fxeni thought with a smile, although I'll have to go test it to make sure there aren't any problems.
Fxeni turns around and hooks Yamalok to his belt, briefly catching a glimpse of someone out of the corner of his eye. He looks up and sees RMZX staring intently at the analyzer machine in the corner of the room. Wonder what that is in the machine... oh well, none of my business I suppose Fxeni thought as he stepped out of the room, not wanting to disturb RMZX in his research. He heads back to his quarters, takes a quick shower and changes into fresh clothes. Just as he's done getting dressed, the intercom in his rooms turns on.
"Pretty Bunny ProtoGal Blues is on her way to your quarters, Fxeni" ADA chimes in.
"PBPB? Wonder why she's heading here... thanks ADA!" Fxeni replies as he gathers his equipment. I get the feeling I'll have the chance to test this out sooner than I would like... He thinks to himself as he performs a quick check on Yamalok. As he puts it back on his belt, PBPB walks into the room.
"Ah PBPB... what can I do for you?" Fxeni inquires.
(Well PB, all yours.)

Fxeni wakes up, finding himself sprawled on the floor with Yamalok in one hand and the power core in the other. He lets out a grunt as he gets up, using Yamalok to help him up. He felt much better now, the fever now gone. He was still sore from lying on the floor the whole time he slept, but the pain was bearable. He took a look at the power core in his hand, admiring its' newfound radiance. He then looked at his trusty weapon, which had seen better days at this point.
I'm not sure it can handle the power core anymore... Fxeni thought to himself as he examined his weapon. Looks like I'll have to do some work on this too then he thought with determination as he turned to the lab table and set the objects in his hands down. He sat in front of Yamalok and went to work, fixing and upgrading his trusty weapon as he went along.

I personally can't stand the controls in PH personally, so I'm glad this one looks like it's being used with the pad.
Day one for me most likely, considering LttP is my favourite Zelda... heck, possibly my favourite game. If they manage to get the design of the game down right, it could be pretty awesome.

Fun fact about Kill Team, it was made on the side by a few devs in their spare time. They brought it to THq's attention, and they helped fund the rest of the way for release.

As Fxeni worked away at the power core of his weapon Yamalok, his fever intensified. He continued on though, knowing that the core needed to be purified or disposed of so that it wouldn't affect anyone else. He felt the sweat running down his face, and he wiped it away with one hand while continuing to make adjustments to the core with the other. I hope I get this done before I collapse... he thought to himself as his vision blurred momentarily.
"You always did overwork yourself..." A voice echoed in his head. He recognized it and stopped for a moment, but then continued on as if he hadn't heard it.
"You should relax for once..." The female voice returned, in a very soothing tone.
"I can't. Not yet." Fxeni retorted bluntly.
"All this work isn't good for you..." The voice continued, now coming from a very blurry figure sitting to his right.
"I'll be just fine. I need to get this done, for everyone's sake." Fxeni replied, casting a quick glance to the figure before going back to his work.
"Why won't you ever take my advice?" the now fully visible figure asked with worry in her voice.
"Well for one, you're not real. I'm either delusional, or this Frenzy energy is getting to me." Fxeni replied while looking at the figure, waving around the screwdriver he had in his hand. "Or both. Probably both."
"All the more reason for you to rest now." The figure said with a smile. Fxeni stared at the woman before him, a frown appearing on his brow. A rest did sound very nice to him right now, but he knew better than to succumb to the wiles of this figure.
"Look Ariani... even though I know it's not you. Right now, at this very moment, I am talking to a figment of my imagination. I know this. You know this, since you're just a projection of my memories of you. Let's just stop here."
"But Fxeni... that's all the more reason for you to know that I'm right."
"Part of me feels that way... especially because of this." Fxeni said as he pointed to the power core, which was now glowing almost exclusively red. "But I cannot give up. I will not give up. If you were real, you would know why and respect that."
"Sometimes you need to give up... you can't do everything yourself."
"I'm not doing everything by myself. I have plenty of friends here that will help me, even those that I barely know. Look, I know why you're here. I know I failed to protect you, but I'm moving on. There's no point in me dwelling on it, there's no point in me beating myself up about it. What's done is done, and all I can do is learn from it and make sure that it doesn't happen again." Fxeni said, now grasping the pulsing power core in his hand. The green glow started to overshadow the red, and the pulsing was much more frequent.
"You have too much faith in them..." The figure said as it started to grow blurry again.
"I think I have just the right amount of faith, thank you very much. I might not trust them implicitly bar some exceptions, but at their core they're good people. Most of them at least. That's good enough for me. I'm in good hands here, Ariani. You can rest easy."
"Alright... I trust in you..." The figure said as it faded away, with what looked like a smile.
"Heh... success..." Fxeni said as he looked at the power core, now shining a vibrant green that was stronger than it ever was. He took hold of Yamalok and wobbled a few steps forward before collapsing to the ground, the core and Yamalok still in hand. He faded into sleep while sprawled on the floor of the lab.

In his room, Fxeni was unable to sleep. He began to do what he always did when he couldn't get any sleep; fiddle away at something electronic. The closest thing to him was his weapon Yamalok, which had taken a beating during the fights in the city. He extended it and took out the power core of the weapon so that he could work on the body of the weapon without incident, however before he put it down he noticed something seemed off about it. Its normally green glow was punctuated with flashes of red.
It absorbed some of the Frenzy energy from when we were fighting Frenzy Man... just great. Fxeni thought to himself as he frowned, none to pleased about this turn of events. I'm going to have to get rid of this now that it's been tainted by that foul energy, and I don't have time to replace it. Such a waste! he thought as he got up and walked a bit, until he felt unbalanced and stopped. He picked up the powerless Yamalok to prop himself up and made his way to the door, looking at the core. He looked at the weapon propping him up again, examining its damage. If only those blasted turtles weren't powered up by that Frenzy energy, then I wouldn't have to... He began to think, but then an idea popped into his head.
