Never said I would switch between them like that. Perhaps today I wish to play BlazBlue portable. And tomorrow I'm in the mood to dig up that Maverick Hunter X. It's all about convenience, and precedence. Nintendo and Sega have been doing it since the beginning, and it's still upheld today. Not including it at this point seems rather backwards.

Also, in this day and age where older consoles are software emulatable by their successors AND digital distributions are common place, there really isn't much of a reason not to. See also Virtual Console on the 3DS.

You know, it's pretty sad when we're having these same 30-vs-60 discussions when Sonic Adventure 2 did a steady 60fps on the Dreamcast so long ago (and was for the most part better-looking than either Heroes or Shadow, to boot).

I don't think it's terribly detrimental in terms of gameplay, but for a decent high-speed experience (Sonic, F-Zero), 60fps definitely goes a long way.  Certainly further than rendering some extra leaves in the background.

*high five*

X / Re: Rockman X7 PC Save Editor
« on: June 25, 2011, 02:45:05 AM »
The same occurs for me actually. Try waiting a good 10 seconds before pressing OK from the message. I find that it helps me boot up the game if I wait.

If you mean the Highway stage, sadly, no. This is a save editor, so it's only limited to what the game reads from save data. If you mean have X AFTER the Highway stage, then yes. You would just theoretically create a new game + with no Glide Armor parts or Power Ups.

Ah thanks, I'll give that a shot.

And yeah, I meant post highway but before any bosses were down. I know saves cant fix X not being in the intro. Oh how I wish that were the case though.

I'd still like to know how to get the PC version to even run. All I ever got was a gibberish error message, followed by the program closing.

Does this program allow you to have X unlocked from the very beginning?

You're over reacting at the end there. I'm not saying it doesn't affect anything, but it's not that bad and a lot of people can't tell the difference. Hell, I got most trials with said choppy mode, including trials I hadn't done on the console version yet.

If I recall correctly, these trials are just a static patterned combo each time. A set static timing sequence that really wouldn't have much to do with the frame rate.

I'm talking about, in a real match, the opponent's foot twitches a few pixels and I read, judge, and select my counter attack or blocking stance based on that. The less frames, the less I get to see that movement, the slower my reaction time is, and the less effective my fighting becomes.

The majority of the industry says "screw frame count, go high end graphics".

You can do prettier things when you have twice the draw time than normal. In some games, it doesn't effect things. Like turn based games, or puzzle games, or games that dont require split second decisions and timing. On other games, this can be detrimental, such as fighters, shooters, FAST PACED PLATFORMERS, etc.

For a good example, turn on the 3D mode in SSFIV-3D and see the difference. Try playing on and off back and forth, you'll see what I mean. I can't play seriously with the 3D on most of the time, because its too choppy and I cant react as quick with such slow visual updates.

Good lord the PS3 version is terrible. Its all muddy, looks like [parasitic bomb], and has a lower frame rate in a lot of spots.

I tried the 360 demo. The framerate was a little choppy. 30fps? Not cool for a fast paced 2D retro title.

Downloading the PS3 one now. Here's hoping this one uses an acceptable frame rate.

It's not just that it doesn't play UMD's. It's that it plays digital UMD dumps, AND that you have to purchase the game AGAIN to have it on there. Either A) have a UMD rebate offer for all UMD games you own to download their digital copy for free, or B) make it play UMD's. Anything short of those two options is just a super dick move.

Or do you expect us to carry a PSP on one pocket, Vita in another, DS in another, and 3DS in another yet?

It only makes sense to be backwards compatible. Consoles you may have a point, but on handhelds it's unacceptable.

True. Although, from a company standpoint, it wouldn't make sense to showcase virtually "half" the experience.

Yeah that doesn't make sense at all. Especially from the stand point of newcomers, which I admit is a little more rare than usual for big franchises but, it'd make sense to include both sides.

Classic may be the focus, but it's only half of whats being presented.

Also, the game is awesome. Can't wait to play it with my friend... whenever that will be. He's very bust with studying now.

Speaking of that...

I tried to play 2player with my friend, but it wouldn't work. I used Joy2Key to get a second controller mapped to the 2P controls, like I did for P1.

Joy2Key seemed to work fine. Pressing on the dpad, in  a normal folder window, you would get the skipping around files, and the deletion key function.
In game, NOTHING. Pressing the keyboard keys moved the character, but pressing the dpad did NOTHING. Nothing registered on the I/O test in the menu either when using the dpad. All the other punch kick coin and start buttons worked though. It was only the directionals.

Weird, truly.

If you have better luck, let me know, but this baffles me. Gamepad with Joy2Key works outside of the game, and the corresponding keyboard keys move the character in the game, but the gamepad cant move the character.

I didn't find a fix persay, but a work around. I just redefined the keys via the config program to not be something stupid like HOME or PAGE UP, using normal keys instead. Then it worked fine.

Sorry if it looked as though I was putting words in your mouth, but I was making sure you knew that was not a valid 'good' solution to this problem. Speaking of putting words in people's mouths...

I never said it technically wouldn't work. Of course you can display only one frame buffer if you really want to. Yes, maybe I was too eager to jump to it being a game breaking flaw though. In a 3D game, polygons and so forth, it wouldn't be desirable at all. You can skew the camera angles, making things a little unpleasant. That said though, you can actually lose visibility and positioning on things, even in 2D games. This isn't exactly desirable, but perhaps not as big a deal as it may seem given your view is still flat rendered, so the game may still be technically playable.

And no, I dont have time to baby you and walk you through the wiki article step by step, as much as it seems like I may have time for wall of text sized posts you seem so accustom to. I'm fairly sure you could understand the implications by reading the basic mechanics of how it works, saving me time. That is, assuming you of a certain level. I do hope I wasn't overestimating you. Regardless, the reading is entirely elective, but I'd recommend you do. Out side of this, it's an interesting read on it's own.

Oh darn, this post is getting a little long. Till next time kids! Oh and please do leave the pompous douche bag 'victory' taunts back at home next time. It certainly doesn't increase your chances of a completely polite response or peaceful conclusion. I know it's like you, but it really isn't winning you any points either way.

Not a Wario fan

WAT

Creating 2D from 3D is a simple matter of showing only one of the two camera angles

Not that simple with games. And no, the 3DS does NOT do that for games. The 3D angles and the 2D angle are separate angles and not just one of the two for 2D mode. For pictures perhaps, but pictures aren't games and the 3D has a much greater implication and application. Because of the way the VB is rendering, only having one side of the image wont work. It's kind of hard to explain if you don't know much about stereoscopic 3D. Please refer to here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy

641
I would INSTANTLY buy Mario Clash on 3DS Virtual Console... O^O

As Vix said, the Virtual Boy was already stereoscopic, so it'd most definitely be "3D".  I doubt, however, that you'd be able to adjust depth.  More likely the slider would act solely as an on/off switch, the way it does with 3D videos (incidentally, Nintendo needs to increase the volume on those things).

Virtual Boy came out at a time when I pretty much never got my own electronics beyond those black LCD thingamabobs.  All the cool stuff, I had to leech off of my older brothers.  Realistically it would be awesome to have those games truly portable and not requiring a stand/total isolation.
Cue the epic victory jingle!

1) Mario Crash? Pfft. Wario is where it's at.

2) The way the VB renders things, there is NO 2D mode period. You'd have to have the 3D always. Unless they feel like rewriting the games specifically for 3DS, and didn't use emulation... Perhaps that is what has prevented them from thus far thinking about it, since games are required to be both, due to children under age 6.

Back if anyone remembers, the fan game project by Arne, Megaman 21XX, used King of Fighters track Esaka 98' version I believe for the factory stage tune. I found a lot of King of Fighters music would fit in the X series well I believe. Same with some select Project Justice tracks, though that being another Capcom game doesn't surprise me much.

The snow resort stage for Gem Fighters, again Capcom, I think would fit really well in a classic title for a snow stage.

There was another from a game, I think was called Triad? I think the track was named Rolling Thunder, but I'm not sure. I found it on VGMusic once years and years ago I think. It sounded like it would work for a great 'first of the final stages'. Perhaps a sunset approach into the fortress.

I know there are more, but it's been a while. Perhaps I'll remember in time.

"And now as the first use of my newly found magical powers; I'll grant myself the grossly oversized tits I've always wanted!"

It reminds me so much of Shadows Over Mystara, and that makes me exponentially happy. Day one purchase, no doubt.

That Dust game also looks really sweet.

So at about 1AM EST, the update was available. I got it, and tried to access the eShop. SERVICE UNAVAILABLE.

AUGH.

So I said f this, I'm going to bed. Wake up middle of the night, I figure hell lets get on the eShop. It worked. I got Shantae DS. It is awesome. And I had to force myself to stop to go back to bed. Now I'm zombie mode today.
