Off The Wall / Re: Birthday Thread~
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:57:54 AM »
I take my first step into being a dinosaur. So far not much is going on other than buying Strania for myself. Don't worry, I got it covered with a 1,600 point card coming up.

Happy birthday to everyone here that I missed.

I normally respect Guiness, but this is just ridiculous.  Call of Duty:  Black Ops is fine as a game, but I don't really see it as a single-player experience.
This I can agree to. Why? My brother bought it for himself for my 360...

I'll be pissed if it becomes more recognizable than Metal Gear Solid.

Hey, at least it's not AS condemed as Jhonny Test. I was also merely looking at it from the critic's outlook, which I need to work on. :x

I might watch FIVE episodes of season one in order (Ep. 1 - Ep. 5) while looking out pontential pros/cons of the show, keeping a notepad open to type them down. Then I can give my final opinion based on those pros/cons.
Well here's a given pattern I'm seeing Friendship is Magic:

-In a Nutshell-
1.) A character or a group of 'em has a personal dilemma they must contend with in the episode (i.e. dealing with jealousy, being greedy, and getting your hopes up for something and deal with the potential disappointment that follows to name a few).

2.) Character(s) go through an experience themselves or their friends.

3.) After the experience, the character reflects upon what has happened and learns from it.
Now if only a certain troll who got banned here before would learn something...

Anyone remembered that episode of South Park where one of the boys brought up something sorta similar to what I've said? Through in rare cases, you get something like this:
Though I might be pulling this out of my ass...

-Season 2, Episode 3: "Lesson Zero" in a Nutshell

Ugh! Hate making posts like this with the Wii's Opera browser. /nopcfreedomhere :|

Hahaha, oh that. Like I always say, to each their own. I'll just say that if I based what I liked on a how a fanbase acts, I'd have given up Star Trek, Star Wars, Comic Books, the Yankees, Anime, and pretty much most nerd-related things a looooooong time ago!  8D
Oh god, I hope video games aren't next... :o

I got my questions (re)posted at the blog.

Darkside is the name of our group.  Yes, the 'D' in my handle also stands for "Darkside", but the two are not interchangeable.  You can call me just "TDO", if you prefer - keeping in mind that my proper handle is TDOMMX.
To be fair, Kira did an excellent rendition of Freudia's "I'll lay you to rest on a cool bed of ice..." that literally gave me chills.  On the whole, though, I didn't think the role of Freudia suited her.  Amanda really surprised me with how well she portrayed Liebea's emotional incontinence (this girl deserves a prize for the energy she puts into her performance - just listen to her Zorne), but, again, her voice didn't quite match what I was looking for.  Nobody has auditioned for Grolla and Sichte just yet; Mint is fully prepared to propose to whoever is cast as Grolla (I wish I was kidding...).

We're still recruiting voice actresses, so if you know someone who has talent and wouldn't mind coming to either California or Montreal for the voice recording (or has access to a home studio that would allow them to phone in their performance), please spread the word.  I'm hoping to have a good chunk of the voices ready before the snow hits (pun not intended, but it works).
Not a member of the "so bad, it's good!" camp here.  I think the voicework for both Castle Shikigami / Castle of Shikigami titles is just plain bad.  Castle Shikigami 2 had a terrible translation and an obvious lack of care, but Castle Shikigami III's campiness was intentional.  Shame.  To me, that's a sign of disrespect when the game is intended to be taken seriously (like, say, Symphony of the Night).  On the other hand, I welcome it when the title is supposed to have a self-deprecating sense of humor ("I HAVE FURY!").

Atrocious works like The Room should never receive the amount of respect and acclaim that they have garnered over the years.  Sadly, it seems like the future predicted in Idiocracy is a likely possibility, seeing entertaining works that have valuable messages to convey be overshadowed by tripe staunchly defended with the phrase, "what do you mean, it's not awesome?!"...  This applies to video games, too.  Why was Okami a commercial flop while Madden can release the same game over and over again with no penalty and even Big Rigs has sold more than ten times as well...?

Okay, enough of that.  Rant over.

I'm seeing a fan translation of the PC version of Shikigami no Shiro on another forum, and hope those guys will get the translations of game right. From what I'm seeing they're working on Shikigami no Shiro EX (the first game's Japanese PC port). Hopefully they'll work on the sequels afterwards.

That, and I might of encouraged them to make a translation patch of the original PC Trouble Witches Episode 1 ~Children of Amalgam~ with a simple mention (and a stab at) of how terrible Trouble Witches NEO's! localization quality is on another forum. Speaking of NEO, why Studio SiestA, why did you cut the characters' stories short? I've compared Aqua's opening dialogues scenes in both PC and NEO, and the opening in NEO is much shorter and cuts some potentially crucial bits of the story. Is it me or Japanese game developers give less of a [parasitic bomb] for storylines in shooters these days? First Triggerheart Exelica on XBLA is guilty of this (and to put salt on the wound, put it back in "No export for YOU" PS2 port with fully-voiced dialogue), now other developers wants to do this too?!

And before I get corrected on this, I know the subtitle for Trouble Witches 1 is ~Daughters of Amalgam~, but Amalgam has a son...

Sorry, I hope it's not being taken the wrong way or anything, but I wanted to make a point that among the idiots of MLP:FiM fanbase, there's intellectual and respectful people in it too like you and I. '>.>

One of the reasons Stage 2 of RayForce is one of favorite stages in the game. Not only this song, but the stage really shows how well Taito pulls off Mode 7 visuals to make the game feel like it's 3D in an entirely 2D sprite-based game.

a cover of "G", the Stage 2 music from RayForce. Silly lyrics aside, it's nothing short of amazing.

To me, TV Tropes is true on this, despite not knowing the actual translation of the lyrics of the song are.

Oh man its going to be a flame war in there.

I'll wait till that starts, its not good to be the one starting wars.

I'm pretty sure Protoman Blues can be understanding with the problems the show generates (yes, he watches it too, but he handles things like any rational person would).

I'll admit, I watch Friendship is Magic too, but I won't go to great lengths saying its "THE BEST SHOW EVER on THE CHANNEL EVER" (really wish I could I use a PC right about so I link the quoted bits with a Foamy rant to bring the point home), but every show usually has it's fair share of faults too. Like how Discord used piles of apples to mess with Applejack's head in season 2, that can come as something rather creepy if not unsettling for someone very young. Or how Pinkie Pie completely went batshit bonkers and had those inanimate objects as her guests while semi-creepy circus music is playing in the background. Though that's not really the worst of it, lot of the messed up stuff comes the fanbase.

You got a (allegedy) very disturbing and graphic fanfic about Pinkie Pie killing and torturing the characters in horrible ways called "Cupcakes" along with people making their own horror fanfic of the show, people making "Luna Games" which are cheaply-made platformers/screamers, then you got those damn Creepypastas about it (please stop making disturbing lies about a work of fiction).

How come this isn't being discussed at the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic thread...?[/sized]

The guys at Reverge Labs posted some photos during Comic Con and with new arcade sticks at their FaceBook. They got one for Parasoul, Ms. Fortune, I think Painwheel, Valentine, and Double. So want to get if they ever put them in stores.
And if it doesn't costs $200 like the ones Hori makes.

-EDIT-
Don't tell me that hideous THING is the roster's final inital character? If it is, any guess that it'd be the "Necrid" (Soul Calibur II) or Charade (SCII)/Olcadan (SCIII) of the cast?

Also, [tornado fang] you Viacom.

-EDIT 2-
Okay I managed to watch the walkthrough of Double on YouTube via Xbox 360 before Viacom tried to take it down again, and now I want try her. Plus she's not as hideous as those early Shoryuken shots depicted from what I've seen.

Prismatic Solid (XBLIG). Miraculously, I managed to actually get the "☆Clear 3rd round" and "☆Score 1,000,000" pseudo-PSN Trophies in this game, which are not easy to accomplish by the way (and maybe one of the hardest next to "☆Clear EXTRA with no miss" and yet haven't succeed in doing).

For a buck (80 Microsoft Points), this old-school shooter is definitely worth it.

There should be no substitute for good OJ, as most don't taste AS good as juice squeezed from an actual orange.
Pretty much this. And stuff like Tang are probably loaded with sugar anyway. :P

I searched for "ViperAcidZX" and I get mostly openings and trailers for Japanese doujin/indie games I've uploaded that most mundane people wouldn't care about unless it's Touhou, music from Japanese doujin games, a few The World Ends with You gameplay vids (I wonder if the idiotic people at GameFAQs are still hatin' on me for my Final Time Attack record, which is now 1'47''55 since August a year or two ago, LOL), a very crappy animation I did for a LONG over-due Rosenkreuzstilette contest at Schwer And Schwer Alike years ago, same blog writter of said blog raging about Queen's Blade, me not unboxing Otomedius Excellent at the time, a warning screen for the most [tornado fang]'d up game I've ever played that litterally raped my sanity Demonophobia - this game is 9000% NSFW, no joke - that I will probably never do a playthrough on YouTube (but maybe Dailymotion since they allow Elfen Lied episodes to be uploaded IIRC), a help vid on Pokemon D/P and Action Replay codes, and an old Shadow the Hegdehog "icon video" to flip off the douche-bags at YouTube.

Searched for "AmethystViper" and I get old "icon vids" used for my substitute YouTube that's been dead for years.

Yep, my YouTube channel is very interesting indeed. 8D

Just thought of this one while post at the "What games are you playing" Thread.

WAVE MOTION Gun - This is something I plan on using on Earth Defense Force 2017. The "WAVE MOTION" part stands for Waste and Vaporize Every Mofo Obliterating and Terrorising Innocent Orgamisms Now. If no one has heard or played EDF 2017, the "mofos" are the Ravagers (aliens) trying to wipe out the "innocent orgamisms," in other words the human beings. Also, "mofo" interchangeable with the F-bomb.

Dumber than the first?
From what I'm hearing about XIII-2:

Gameplay-wise = Better than the first(?)
Story-wise = Worse than before

Star Fox 64 on Virtual Console. :) Just finished playing it again and I did better than my previous run; Last time I took down 949 enemies, now 1,073 and managed to keep Falco's and Peppy's Arwing alive for all 7 stages with Slippy crashing and burning on the final stage (thanks to Andrew for swatting down Slippy's already crippled Awring like an annoying fly). This game is definitely right next to Sin and Punishment: Successor of the Earth in terms of great rail-shooters. Definitely want to get a 3DS for Star Fox 64 3D (if I ever get one that is).

-EDIT-
Earth Defense Force 2017. Finshed the Normal and Easy modes and almost half-way through Hard mode. Really wish there was a way to sort the arsenal of weapon you get in this game like DynaMarisa 3D does (granted Twilight Frontier made the game after EDF 2017), but that's just me being nit-picky... Still working on getting the WAVE MOTION (Waste And Vaporize Every Mofo Obliterating and Terrorising Innocent Organisms Now) Genocide Gun.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, but there's another music sample of the game. This time, it's the Anti-Skullgirls Laboratory.

Not sure if this counts as news, but this week's Inside Xbox's Featured Video on Xbox Live leaked the ESRB rating for the game; It's rated Teen (13+) as expected for Violence, Blood, Partial Nudity, and Use of Tabacoo. Does this mean we're getting closer to release?

-EDIT-
Well 7 out of 8 of the initial cast - Filia and Samson, Cerebella, Peacock, Parasoul, Ms. Fortune, Painwheel, and Valentine -- has been unveiled. Only time will tell who's the final eighth character of this game and the DLC ones. I just hope DLC characters don't cost as much as $5 / 400 MSP for one character unless they're good.
