Well for a while now, R20 was japan only as well. So were all the other things Udon is releasing. Who knows. If sales go well with these things, They might bring more Megaman books.

The compendium is a considerably older book. It covers up to X7, and a fraction of XCM, which it even excludes from the official timeline. Udon's current release practice is to translate the latest and most complete books. Hence their focus on the Complete Works.

I just expected it to have the same info as MMZOCW did.

Thing is, MMZOCW is the sole sourcebook of the ZERO-series. It therefore attempts to be both an artbook and an infobook. MMOCW and MMXOCW are different in that they're originally a single whole, for series that have dozens of other books to elaborate on their story. It is from those other books that the likes of Servbot20, HeatMan, Delta, FireMan, Auto and MarshmallowMan get their info.

As both MMOCW and MMXOCW have already been released in Japan, and the scans made their way past the internet; the exact content of both books was already known, and it is with a little bit of research that you could have realized they were not about the story, but about the development process.

The art is okay, but not a GIANT leap from what we have on file.

For the more unique pieces of art, we only have them on file BECAUSE people already had their hands on the Japanese book.

Seriously though, where did all that info come from about reorganization of hunter units after X7?!

The reorganization of the Hunters after X5 is that the the large losses they suffered in the earth crisis caused the units to be disbanded. From X6 to XCM, X and Zero are no longer commanders of their respective units, always listed as "former" commanders. With X also retiring from the front lines in X7, a large gap remained to be filled up by Red Alert.

X / Re: Sigma's Scars
« on: December 31, 2009, 02:23:51 AM »
It's a combination of all of the above, actually.

Though Zero inflicted a similar wound to one side of Sigma's face, he also tore of the entirety of Sigma's skin on the other. Therefore it would only account for one of the two scars. Furthermore, Sigma had gotten his whole face repaired after the incident. However, his loss against Zero definitely was a crushing blow to his ego and is clearly remembered by him.

It is after X's attack that Sigma left the scars he was dealt with, sort of like a symbolic gesture of how X's influenced Sigma. But in that same way, it is also a symbolic gesture toward Zero, who once inflicted a similar wound. Indeed, as we all know, it were both X and Zero that were unwillingly responsible for Sigma's change of allegiance.

Then, with his subsequent revivals, Sigma's scars never went away; he keeps on re-adding them, reminding X and Zero of their connection.

What the manga showed doesn't apply to the games, though. This is because Day of Sigma presents a completely different scenario of Sigma revealing his rebellion.

It can be good if you can show an example. I dont think I really understood what you meant.

You need to make tiles for the possibility of this:

@Zan: I know. But the stage design is not fully developed yet. So take a look at the newest one.

It seem like the pillars attaching to the ground are a bit too high up; there's a lot of black in between them and the floor. Not to mention, the green shading on the ceiling is reversed; it looks like a floor...

Also, a big issue with this background thus far is that it's always a big wall behind the player. As you'd through the stage, you'd need to break away from this, so build in a few ways for the wall to transition into new types of background. Likewise, make some floor tiles that allow different heights.

Mine uses the NES palette that emulators use.

The NES palette used by emulators is not equivalent to the actual TV output of the NES. MM9 is actually much closer to that.

Same for that sand tiles too.

Looked more like lava to me, but that's probably because there's no real browns for you to use. It's much better on the incline in the newer screen, but the red details on the flat floor that are so close to the surface still give that illusion of lava.

There are not many grid bg's I though I could make one for a change and yea that bg color. I will change it.

This one surely looks better, but you're best off using the zig zag effect in the middle to create a more elaborate pattern, as well as using it at the top and bottom to break up the squareness of the whole shape. Remember, at some point the stage itself will have raised floors and even move vertically; you'd need to move the pattern accordingly.

The fact remains that DNA data can be downloaded without ripping the victim's soul out, established in X6.  I already said that the two are undeniably linked, but being linked and being synonymous are not the same thing.  Even taking that translation at face-value, a DNA Soul would be but one part of a larger DNA program.

It isn't that there's a larger DNA program, it's that there's more than one DNA program that makes up a Repliroid, the soul being the operational DNA.

It's not a 'game', it's a set of collectible cards. The whole collection is three different card sets which each tell a story in the X-series universe.

You can view the card sets here:

Hypershell, Ramzal, both of you, get equipped with the Compendium of RockmanX!

DNA Program
Program that makes up the characteristics of a repliroid. Zero's Learning ability utilizes this, but Axl's ability to completely copy a repliroid is rare.

Erasure
The phenomenon where a repliroid's operation program disappears all the sudden. An erased repliroid loses all consciousness, reduced to being like so much scrap iron. During the Nightmare Incident, a phenomenon similar erasure happened to Isoc.

DNA Soul
A repliroid's operational [mobilization/movement] DNA program that has been pulled out. It appears that Berkana took the souls from the erased repliroids and inserted them for use in the bodies of Iregulars.

There's something totally wrong about considering this as biological DNA, just as much as there's something wrong with considering the Repliroid soul as separate of these DNA program.

The NES only has one layer. Therefore, overlapping of tiles is impossible. All you can do is overlap a bunch of sprites sprite. In which case you're trying every trick in the book to justify yourself. Especially since sprites have their own limitations.

If you want to know if it is within NES limits, for something made up of background tiles (title screen, cutscene art) the most straightforward approach is to divide the whole into tiles of 8x8 pixels, every single tile should have no more than 4 colors.

I dunno. I think if they wanted to make a two piece armor, they woulda' made it look like something on the right

I see your point, the blue at the hip is far too large compared to what MMZOCW presents. Though, it's still quite hard to truly make out. Maybe try an alternate version with a two piece armor?

To me, the sprite of X's body shows a blue abdomen that is separated by a 1px thick black line to show the difference between it and the chest. The blue extends up a little. If the abs were black, I think black would extend down because the Zero style pelvic covers are slim and low.

The sprite shows a green/black separation line between chest and hip. This is the same color as the upper arms and legs, which you colored black. His art for Yggdrasil as well implicates something much closer to the X of the X-series than what Copy-X's abdomen looks like.

I came up with a quick mockup/trace over Zero of what I think he looked like according to the art and sprites

The only issue I can see with that image is that unlike Copy-X, X does not have any blue on his abdomen to connect his hips and chest. Also, I personally feel that his chest should be light blue or gray, but the Z2 sprite disagrees with that... So.. the only issue in terms of accuracy is really just the abdomen.

was not involved in any part of the story's lineage. It was only artwork, a mere interpretation of anything and everything.

This is untrue. Inti has always been very careful about having even the smallest of details be considered in the canon. In regards to that piece of art, they say that despite that artwork (which was created because of Nakayama being generous with his artwork), they still died at the end of ZERO3 whilst protecting Zero from the explosion.

In the conversation between Aizu and Nakayama, it's mentioned that Nakayama is not quite certain about where in the timeline that event goes. And Aizu elaborates that the timeline and events of that image are 'a little fuzzy', so they just threw it in there. This doesn't say that it's not part of the timeline, simply that they haven't quite figured it out yet.

Inti's track record here is "entrusting everyone to use their imagination" and "making complicated explanations real fast". They truly dislike having to label anything as non-canon, therefore it's only a matter of time for them to figure out how it's supposed to work. At the time of MMZOCW's writing they simply hadn't quite done that yet, as their retcon of the Big4's deaths to transition toward ZX was still very recent.

Are Oil and Time officially DRN 009 and 10 officially?  Or is that fanon?  I didn't think they were numbered anywhere.

Bit of both. There are no additional sources for Rockman Rockman, so we don't know their numbers. But within the game itself, when the others are DRN-003 to 008, TimeMan would be the ninth, and Oil the tenth. Which could also mean they're on some special numbering list, but at least we know that Time precedes Oil.

Quote
The numbers in the games are very strange from an in-universe perspecitve.  Even if you think of that as Dr. Wily's own personal list or robots he stole that wouldn't really explain it since MM, Roll, and Proto are all on it.

That's why Time and Oil would fix the listing just a bit. They'd remove Rock and Roll from Wily's list, and change the Wily stolen Right robots, CutMan to OilMan, to DWN-001 to DWN-008.

But then, you'd have to also completely restructure the R9 numbers to DRN-018~025 as well as the Cossack numbers to DCN-001~008. Which would retcon everything already established....
