(because even die hards can admit, this [parasitic bomb] was whack)

The [parasitic bomb] made perfect sense to me. Perfect reason for the guy to not have been killed sooner on.
I'm betting Szayel is responsible in some fashion, though. The mad scientist mentioned Yammy and he was analyzing Ichigo's reiatsu after all. Just as much as Szayel is probably involved in creating both Ichigo and Aaroniero's unlimited potential.

Ofcourse, as Mayuri discovered Dordoni and Curucii's corpses, that means all that data on Ichigo is now in his deranged hands...

Quote
Anyways, now there's going to be more ulquiorra x orihime shippings then ever.

And it's a direct Kaien x Rukia reference (where is the heart, it's here, between us), which by association also means Ichigo x Rukia shippings. Great fun.

So I heard this Kubo guy is a good writer.

Kubo's a good writer in his own right. His forte is characters, their personality and interactions. Which leads to quite  the dramatic moments.

Quote
Wow, he also forgot his own story?

Every writer forgets parts of his own story at times. You might remember the events, but the specific impact of each moment is lost as time passes.

Quote
So this is basically an improvised manga.

Not quite, it's improvised and preplanned at the same time. Kubo has a grand plan, but side tracks whenever he feels like it. Which is part of the reason why if he started to show us everybody's background, Bleach would never end, he'd could keep himself writing forever.

Also, planning can also go so far, improvisation needs to fill the gap. Also improvisation is what created the plan to begin with and will lead to further planning. Like in the beginning of Bleach, Kubo had already planned Isshin was a shinigami, but he didn't plan Soul Society's hierarchy at that time. Then he thought up the captains and he established the grand chain of events we see today, with Isshin's mysteriously torn captain robe.

Of course, in general Kubo's focus is characters. Which explains the focus on personality and drama. But all the same, you can tell how far he plans ahead which such concepts as the Espada rankings. There was perfect use of rank revelations throughout the last few arc. Similar long term plans can be seen with Ichigo's power, Aizen's betrayal and many other things. And I can assure you, some hints Kubo's dropped in the past will not be shed light upon until another 100 chapters have passed, that's how his planning works.

Meantime, enjoy the character interaction and drama.

But it has some nice swords and Halibel. Halibel is awesome.

Just think about how the anime would censor that.

Why were they changed into boring skulls in X5 ?

Because the majority of bosses in X5 have no particular side to stand on but their own.

'Boring' skulls were also used in X1. X2 switched to the SIGMA. X3 used both the D and the SIGMA. X4 uses Repliforce, SIGMA and the 'boring' skull.

You know, I'll never understand why people think certain Inti games are better or worse than others. From Zero to ZXA, Inti has always delivered us quality games with the same dedication. They've had the engine down from the very beginning and continue to polish up and innovate their games with every sequel.

Surely there are differences between games, but on a matter of quality, the difference is so little, it should be about which one you like more than the other, but people must apparently think in black and whites. Apparently one game rocks the house, and the game that is exactly like it with some differences is apparently the worst ever....

6 quality games by Inti a row.. their seventh release is a quality game that invokes immense nostalgia and suddenly people proclaim we haven't had any good games in forever?

I just have to ask, are people even playing these games right? Boot them up, kick ass, kick some more ass. You don't have to let all the extra stuff get in the way of that. All of these games offer that same classic experience.

Meh, I guess Inti should start releasing their games with a classic mode that brings it all back to basics...

Cyber Peacock is a virus, mostly created by Double.... one was a virus fragmented from maverick data.

What the heck does Double have to do with creating anything other than destruction? Besides, Peacock is NOT a Virus. He's either a digitized Repliroid guard or a guard program specifically made to resemble a Repliroid.

Cyber Kujacker
"Network Guardian"
He was originally installed in Cyber Space to protect the network from hackers. Then
he was remodelled by Sigma into an arrogant and cruel character, and began attacking
anyone who entered the network, be they civilian, Hunter, or Repliforce.

Quote
Magma Dragoon went maverick and labeled as such, explaining the icon. Same with Split Mushroom, who was controlled by Sigma.

Mushroom was a civilian who became an underling for Sigma, no mention of being controlled. As a matter of fact, it's rather Dragoon who was confirmed as being controlled.

Quote
Last bit of the Repliforce was Spiral Pegasion, who appeared in X5.

Pegacion was the last of the Air Force, being the Leader of it, but he might not be the last of Repliforce. That wholly depends on how well the Naval Force and Guerilla Force are holding out.

However, Dinorex is a former Repliforce soldier and now control theirs Sanhouse Mountain Base, so I would presume his Force was wiped out. Lots of former Repliforce either retired or were infected. For instance, we can find Air Force soldiers piloting the Eagle G in 0-space.

But, the latest shown character to ever have been a part of Repliforce is probably Red, who is rumored to have been a recruiter for them. But aside from all that, Repliforce left behind quite a legacy. They after all created the first generation of combat-specific Ride Armors; Riden and Eagle.

And their yellow boats are still used by Neo Arcadia >.>

Because I was thinking of Ciel instead of Prairie (damn ZX flashback). Arg.

As for Prairie (seriously this time), I just assumed that she was on the ship that Aile/Vent summoned near the end of ZXA.

We're talking of Ciel.

Ciel: Is a human but looked no different from her ZERO self despite time passage, equality laws are in place, is centuries after ZERO still considered missing instead of dead.

Prairie: Is a Repliroid, changed her name, got a new body.

ZX left Ciel and Prairie's story inconclusive, and neither were shown in ZXA because the focus of the game was not on Guardian.

But real answer, she, and the rest of those people were always light skinned.

Of course they always were, there's absolutely no tone difference between Rose and Ed in the manga. Whereas Scar was always noticeably darker.

Quote
It's just that during the original production, they never actually had an official color pallete for anything, so since they were presumsed to be in a desert town, the animators just gave them dark skin since they all live in the desert.

Not so much a presumption as a deliberate deviation. During the course of the first anime they've literally turned the place into a second Ishbal.

Quote
Am I the only one who thinks that the explaination of the backstory is done a little too fast? Didn't they push the contents of like 3-4 episodes into this episode 2?

The content itself comes from many episodes, but there's still plenty of information not covered. What they mostly wanted to do is show the event in chronological order and depict the changes to the Gate of Alchemy and introduce Truth.

Complete with references to "all is one, one is all" and Gluttony that new viewers wouldn't get because the event is shown too early.

Heck, this early on they're already throwing phrases like "Xerxes", "Philosopher of the East" and "Rentanjutsu" at us. In some ways it's a really nice way to unify the start of the series with the elements introduced later, in other ways it's just spoiling too much.

That was barely done. No records of anything of what happened to Ciel. Just that she vanished.

Again, there is no ZX3. It was neither ZX, nor ZXA's point to address this, it is food for the third and possible fourth game.

Quote
Nothing about how people took the transaction of power from Neo Arcadia, to the three Wisemen or if there were rebellions against the limitation of Reploids life and humans getting to live longer and stronger.

Vile's Incident clearly established how humanity and Repliroid began living together at Area Zero and moving away from the dome city to its periphery, a new age has begun as a result of the Ragnarok incident which leads to happy acceptance in order to promote equality between humans and Repliroids; they want to learn from the lessons of the past and avoid a repeat of Vile's Incident.

Furthermore, it is also made clear quite often that the exact details of the laws are unknown because of the extend they factor into both Albert and Thomas' plans. Again, ZX3 is needed. It falls beyond the scope of ZX and ZXA.

Quote
Why is there not a single character in the ZX series that might have still been behind Weil's ideals without said person trying to blow up the world?

If you have a highly controversial opinion, would you speak it if it resulted in an immense public and legal backlash? Not to mention, such people are highly sensitive to Model V to begin with.

Quote
I am assuming that you are referring to A-trans and the possible relation to copy chips? While I personally do wish that Model A is Axl and that Albert has been using the same technology from copy chips from Lumine's time and warning of what they can't stop, that is all speculation until made clear by games. Pay attention to these words: It is speculation. Not complete and total fact until the game makers have a statement---in story, that says as much.

It isn't speculation to say there's a connection, it's speculation to say that we know that the exact reason for the connection is. But we have a childish livemetal with the ability to transform into the bosses he defeat and main characters with backstory and personality aspects that are highly similar to Axl's. We have the ability of Trans On similar to Axl's A-Trans. The antagonist, Albert, using that ability to play God and attaining the power of new life, just as Redips did. If you say that connection is wholly speculative, then that's amusing one hell of a coincidence.

That's completely different from saying "Zero killed everyone" as it is not establishing anything more than the game's already show us.

Quote
Cameos mean nothing in the face of reference and marketing.

Cameos are references when they tell us explicitly in the plot what they are. "Toys of cars used in races in the olden days." and "comic book characters based on legendary heroes from the olden days." The game tells us these characters are historical figures and it tells us even such a thing as the Battle and Chase happened in the distant past.

Quote
Speculated. No matter how close you may or may not be, it's only true when it's stated. While I'd believe you, there is no -direct- evidence that it true.

Speculation? You have to be kidding me. This is what Inti says about the sequel to RockmanZERO4, that is, RockmanZX:

AIZU: This is something that Yabe (responsible for the original scenario of the Zero series) had been wanting to do. We wanted to take the humans that had been thus far living in relative peace and safety within the walls of Neo Arcadia and introduce them to Weil's dictatorship to sort of force them out into the wilds with the Reploids, thereby lowering themselves to refugee status and in a way bringing them down to what they considered the Reploids' level. It was out hope that ending the game in such a sad state of affairs would leave the stage open for the next game to take place in a world where humans and Reploids lived in harmony.

"The next game?"

AIZU: Well, this is just our own personal opinion, but the way we see it, the end of the Mega Man series has already been written in the form of [the] "Mega Man Legends" [series]. We feel that no matter how you continue the Mega Man series, you'll always end up at Legends. Therefore, we feel that everything that we have created has, in a way, laid the ground work for that world to come into existance. We have to make sure that things like the environment and human-Reploid relations that we establish will be able to make a comfortable transition to that future world.

Quote
Granted that Dr. Light holograms are around and pictures of Dr. Wily, but that's it. There's nothing about -anything- of what Rock did that helped make the future what it is. There are no historical facts stated in game about Rock---a ten year old looking robot that could take on armies ALONE? Come now.

Dr. Right explicitly mentioned in his warning the Dr. Wily incidents as the single most fear inducing chain of events of the 21nd century. RockmanX2 mentions wars of the past fought with invincible robots. Dr. Right again outright mentions humanity's reluctance to accept X because they are not yet mature and would view X's limitless potential as something to be feared. All of this says a lot about the state of the world when Right created X.

As for direct character references, Sagesse has intellect comparable to the legendary mad scientist. And hey, even in ZX we have historical facts of Rockman as a legendary hero.

Quote
What's wrong with that? Everything that's made dies at sometime. It's a fact. Why not do that? Why would they NOT bother to have something in game that shows "Rock was here." "Bass blew this building up." or Protoman T'shirts that have an arrow pointed at the wearer saying "I'm standing with awesomeness."

Because Rockman is a children's story and there is a limit on how violent it can get. We're not going to be killing any of the main cast permanently on screen, it does not fit the theme. Last time we killed Roll on screen was completely crossing the line for Inafune, even if she never died in the timeline.

Quote
The very thought of something -given- free will and branded as such after it decides to become a criminal is pretty silly. If they cannot choose to become criminals or normal citizens, then they don't have free will or a choice in the matter. It's a contradiction.

What are you talking about? There is no contradiction. Any Repliroid is as free as a human. But it isn't a matter of what is possible, it is a matter of what people in the setting want to believe. From an idealistic point of view they choose not to want to know that Repliroids could willingly rebel because it jeopardizes the very foundation of the human - repliroid utopia. From a practical point of view it allows the humans to control the repliroids using the stigma of irregularity. They do not want Repliroids to contemplate matters of rebellion therefore they implicate any rebelling repliroid is a faulty one.

This centennial build up of human superiority in relation to the human - repliroid utopia is exactly the reason why the Vile's Incident happened the way it did. Montagne wrote a nice report on the matter, you ought to read it.

Quote
Which is fine, yet it is not explored far enough to warrent being called "good storytelling." The furthest progress goal we've seen is Sigma testing X's willingness to make decisions in critical times and make sacrifice. And Zero's virus. He literally spent all his men and resources just exploring -two- robots. How is that not a waste?

He's forcing Repliroid kind in a war to grow stronger in an endless war. He's trying to break free from humanity to allow Repliroid's to progress with unlimited attention. He's focused on X and Zero because they are the strongest and because X has limitless potential. I don't see any waste, Sigma has always done everything for evolution. The fruits of his labor can be seen in the rapid growth of Repliroid abilities.

Quote
I believe it was implied that she DIED OF OLD AGE.

When she already was centuries old, looked no different from before, and has a machine body?

Quote
Nope. It said she "Mysteriously vanished." Which does not translate to "Dying of old age" and her vanishing happened in the ZX series. Honestly, it makes no sense to me and it all sounds horridly convoluted.

Deliberate mystery is deliberate. She created the LiveMetals and vanished. The Livemetals' memory of the time after their creation are erased. Pandora and Prometheus mention that woman, Albert claimed her livemetals as part of his own game. Do you really think Inti doesn't have a plan for Ciel? Ciel will appear sooner or later and turn the world upside down in grand revelation style. When that doesn't happen and the series has ended, THEN this is a flaw of the series. You're several years too early as is.

I beg to differ. Simple because what's before is what builds something to what it is, what comes after is what it ultimately ends to. (Which we know it won't stop past Megaman 50) If anything, the before is the most important part of the now, without a before there is no now. Therefore, your point and claim is invalid on that level. Unless, you're whatever past actions that lead to a story is -never- important and that the past never counts.

The revealed past of a story is information that is necessary. There is no need to recite the entire history of the universe at every step, nor does one need to cover information the reader should already be aware of. Rockman DASH explained it's own past adequately. Going any further than that would be needless sidetracking. It is not the point of DASH to explain that, it's for the preceding series to make that connection.

Quote
True enough on the end that it explains Z to ZX era clear enough without much need for a source book. Although, the writing problem in ZX is that characters were not fleshed out enough to make them deep outside of Albert, Ashe and...well. That's about it. Maybe how much Vent matured as well but that could have been explored more.

Hence, there is no third game and we have no access to Gigamix. Furthermore, aside from the direct ZERO connection, ZX makes immense references to the X7~XCM story in its plotline and has in-universe cameos of the classic series. Finally, ZX moves toward Rockman DASH with every step it takes.

Quote
While barebones as it is, it could have been reason for many reploids to go maverick on their own volition outside of "VIRUS! SIGMA! JAZZ HANDS!" Something from the past can be explored to effect the future. There have been parts of actual history where this is done to humans and they've gotten pissed and rebelled. Megaman does not do this and wastes it's own potential to tell a compelling story that connects the dots.

But that's backwards story telling. X1 was made far too long ago whereas R9 is a recent addition. Adding such a thing at this stage of writing is just not possible without massive retcon.
And even then, they actually are slipping in hints about the classic - X connection all over the place. Surely they're ignoring the truly important matters, but can you blame them for not saying Rock and every other lovable character died?

Furthermore, Capcom simply decided a different approach to the matter. Repliroids and humans do co-exist peacefully early on. Irregulars are treated as faulty, glitches in the electronic brain. Then being irregular is treated like a virus induced illness. After all, the term coined has always been 'irregularity'. It's originally not the point that Repliroids are rebelling of their free will, it's the point that they're considered faulty at first. Only later do we start accepting free will in the matter. And when we look at the big bads, the theme of a war of progress instead of freedom is much more prevalent than a war for freedom.

All in all, where Capcom disagrees with you is concept and approach not in connections. When it comes down to it, the R9 law ties heavily into X, just not in the matter you want it to. It emphasizes humanity's response to the Wily Incidents as we head for that point where the acceptance of robotics in 20XX leads to fear and a sudden stop in progress.

Capcom is willing to give you these connections, but rewriting the past is going too far. MHX and RR might have done so, but they did it with respect to the source, and even then they got crap from people for trying in the first place.

Quote
Not fully true. Before Inafune said anything, it was thought to be a completely seperate universe, and the world just happened to be sunk underwater. Now that he HAS said something, it more than likely will have to tie in with future series and end up with an entire Noah's ark/ Magento with Thor's hammer thing going on. You wouldn't have been wrong for not considering it a few years back, but now that the creator of the Capcom icon has said something, it's kinda no choice.

From the very beginning the story of DASH outright mentioned "irregulars", and was set in the "halcyon days" emphasizing a period of peace and tranquility in comparison to the wars of the past. Combine that with Quantum Refractors and Reavered being nearly the exact same as E-crystals and Mechaniroids. Surely a universe quite similar to the X-series had to have happened in the distant past of Rockman DASH. Then as the series progressed, RockmanX mentioned DASH's Heaven and humanity was said to have become extinct as a consequence of the aforementioned wars of the past. These connections go far beyond "Capcom/Inafune said so."

And now, we've reached a point in time where preceding series are starting to make even more direct references. Ruins, Ruin Hunters. Then we have the heavier points. Project Heaven. Before casting away bodies that feel pain, humanity must discard the heart. Creation of new life. The world must be reset.

Ramzal: So, according to your definition of good writing, Rockman can never attain good writing simply because of all the baggage that precedes it. That is ludicrous. You are to take a setting for what it is. Not for what came before or after. References are a plus, but they should never overtake the main story that's being told in the now.

But if you really care about tying several millennia of references into one story. ZX wins by flawless victory. However, it still shouldn't magically solve all plotholes of all that preceded it. As that wouldn't be a story it'd be a collection of facts.

As for DASH, it is allowed to distance itself by intend, it is a new series and not a direct follow up to any that comes before. And still, you'd be wrong about it not referencing the past, the entire setting of DASH requires the endless war that is the X-series, along with many other things.

Full Metal Alchemist is first and foremost a manga, not an anime.

And really, you can not compare any of the aforementioned works of fiction to the Rockman-series. They are all completely different formats. None of the aforementioned are action sidescrollers or have anything comparable to multi-series yearly releases that might end abruptly at any given moment.

Were it not for the abrupt halt of that series, Rockman has proven with DASH that in the right format it can produce a great written story. But I guess you won't be satisfied by that because it didn't address the nearly two dozen games of baggage it left before it.

Kinoko Nasu

Nasu? You're kidding right? Nasu's style is very very weird and is an acquired taste.

Zero: THIS HAIR! THIS HAIR! THIS HAIR IS AN EYESORE!

Where Nasu shines isn't writing, it's original concepts. And even then, he often reuses concepts. Execution-wise, he goes on long explanation sprees to make you the reader understand. If he doesn't, his concepts remain confusing. If he does it too much, it's even more confusing.

Really, if you let Nasu write a Rockman game, we'd either get X5-Alia syndrome until he feels something is explained, be scratching our heads from lack of info, or get confused by Nasu giving 5 different explanations about the same thing.

Capcom's issue isn't concept or writing. What is limiting them is localization issues, format and the game by game nature of releasing these stories. As a result, not everything can be said in the games themselves, resulting in inaccessible sources. Long term also plans can't be properly established, the focus will change between games and they have to deal with internal consistency between multiple series running simultaneously.

For the rest, the simple matter of trying to understand the plot will eliminate 90% of all the so called plotholes.

Either way, the issue with classic is that all the real information is in books, not in the games. A bi-product of classic times.

X's big issue is being the sequel to the never ending classic series, leaving hanging mysteries about the past. They also have clear issues with the format and game by game focus shifts.

DASH is the first time a long time plan really worked out, and the new format allowed for much more information to be given. When all is said and done, The biggest issue is there being no DASH3.

With ZERO, Inti definitely has issues with game by game releases, but less so than X. There are no real focus shifts and you can see the long term plan, they simply occasionally write themselves into a corner as they haven't full established certain matters at the time of writing, requiring patching up in the aforementioned inaccessible sources. They also have to deal with the sudden resurrection of the X-series. They had to redo their concepts in order to stick with what the X-series is doing. You could basically say their issue is wanting to be plothole free, but being unable to do so until after the fact for all the aforementioned reasons.

ZX throws out all the issues the ZERO-series had except for being the sequel of the sequel of the sequel requiring a certain level of vagueness of the connection between series. But DASH is like that too, deliberately distancing itself. So honestly, ZX's only flaw is like DASH; there is no third game and many mysteries are unanswered.

X / Re: Sigma Virus
« on: April 09, 2009, 06:21:36 PM »
But what purpose did the Virus  serve exactly, aside of a very effective weapon against his Reploid brothers, if he started his rebellion on his own free will? Did it trully affect his personality or did it nourish the already growing darkness of his heart?

I would say that becoming infected with the Virus made Sigma realize what he could do, he was given the ability to whatever his heart and mind desired. But all of this is first and foremost driven by his tattered pride, leading into his desire for power. In the middle of this entire process, he meets X and his strong justice makes him realize the imperfections of the world.  When all these factors come together as Sigma merges with the Virus, it means the Virus made him see unlimited potential to grow stronger as he had the power to cast the world into endless war to invoke the evolution of all Repliroids.

X8 is right on the mark with "Sigma rebelled of his own free will", solely because he is the Virus and the Virus can't corrupt itself. A personality change is doubtful, as that is disregarding both X and Zero's non Virus influence on him. Furthermore, it was remarked that Sigma does not worry much, whereas X worries too much. VAVA was said to be similar to Sigma in that he can become irregular of his own accord. Which would lead to the conclusion that the likes of VAVA and Sigma have no compassion because they do not worry.

Quote
You know, what I'd find really helpful is a comprehensive diagram about all the major Irregular indicents (read: games), causes of the Irregular revolts (Virus, plain conspiracy...), the Virus' variants and mutations, etc. It'd be like those global warming charts, just useful and I could actually hang it from my wall.

Maybe not a diagram, but here's a little timeline:

RMZ Official Complete work shows many artworks where he had legs before he became a floating...thing.

It doesn't. It shows alternate concepts for his ZERO3 appearance. Not his looks through time. Art of Dr. Weil from before being given his rejuvenating armor does not exist. We only know that his face looks like it does now.

Saying it is what twisted him is very much oversimplifying matters. His change of heart has to do with his pride being tattered and therefore desiring power. Then witnessing the justice X speaks off, he began to think about the imperfections of this world. And the Virus was the means to an end, the ability to cause a rebellion on that scale and restore himself from death. It's all factors lead to his change of heart, not just one. Certainly the man that he is would believe in the philosophy of evolution even without the Virus. Ask the New Generation.

The Sigma Virus from Zero transferred to Sigma during that battle. Followed by darkness growing in Sigma's heart until after several months the evil Virus' hold over him was complete; he merged with the Virus and then started his rebellion.

All of that still happened, nothing to be confused about.

Sigma still rebelled of his own free will, though.

Well, my paranoia goes as far as Sigma using it like Jedi Mind Trick on General. Just to make General out for less of an idiot.
