Ok, checking back, I see now... X5. Was talking about Z4 instead, my bad.

In regards to his X5 "death." Not unless you count X has having died as well. Everyone assumes his survival because X too survived. The fact that X didn't find anything but the Z-saber was all the more reason for Zero to be alive. X never had any doubts and even feels his presence at times. Nobody but Gate really assumes he has died, and even if he actually did, he was revived again. As a matter of fact, if Zero himself is to be literally believed; he never died, not even in X1.

Whereas in regards to Z4, him being missing is directly related to never being seen again, therefore he's dead from that point onward.

Between "missing" and "never seen again", I think that's pretty much proof positive of his being dead.

I don't see how that changes the fact that they refer to it a very informally. It is always "the Elders", "the Elders and their machines", "their system" and that one instance of what could be "the Elders' System." Especially with the Japanese terminology in place, it was never anything comparable to a specific term or name of the system, it simply is the system that belongs to them.

If anything, you raise the question of whether or not "The Master System" is actually a term in the original instead of a product of localization.

Rockman Shadow looks better in the cutscenes, but the sprites are a mixed bag in general. It's even acknowledged in the plot (by Rockman specifically) that Rockman Shadow looks just like Rockman.

Oh and he smells just like Forte, but thankfully we can't confirm that ourselves!

Even if just a code, I think there always was some validity to Right creating an Ultimate Armor but it still being incomplete. If it was just a just in inconsequential bonus, they wouldn't have made Light explain it and just have X start with it from the get go.

Seems pretty canonical to me. Considering the thing is in X5.

Let's talk about how Inticreates can't write storylines worth dick & how all the biometals are copies, not the originals in biometal form. Right? I was never too sure on that.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Inti's writing in ZX and Advent.

Despite that, there's a shockingly vast amount of people that do not comprehend even the most basic plot points from these games.

And really now, the next person to seriously make the claim that the Livemetals are not the originals deserves to be "Gannon Banned." They can come back once they've taken the Reading Comprehension 101 course. More specifically, once they figure out the meaning of the word "consciousness".

X & Zero are dead at this point?

As dead as Phantom. Which only strengthens the fact that we are dealing with the originals.

I've never really intended his design to be complicated. Being a speed based character, it deliberately is a uniform without much additional detailing. The more complicated cape and coat combination is to counterbalance that with a sense of status.

Even if that might be the case at the most basic level. Remember that it was also quite an extensive addition. There were originally no ideas for new bosses until Inafune went and designed them himself, creating new bosses weapons and a weakness order to go with it. Only with all that already done for them by the "father of Rockman", did they go ahead and implement them.

Overall, their inclusion meant that Rockman Rockman had two additional bosses and two additional stages, stage enemies, two music tracks, two boss weapons and a weakness cycle to go with it. It also meant two more playable characters were added. Overall, TimeMan and OilMan contributed to a considerable amount of new content that was added to the game.

I feel that after the release of Rockman Rockman, it would only be fitting to start including these two as part of the group, both in the games and in additional material. If not in Gigamix's new stories, R9's Megamix also could have had a role for them, what with the shown conflict of old and new Right Numbers. Especially since Ariga has already drawn up designs for them... (TimeMan's is quite cool, OilMan not so much.)

FORTE: Bothersome bastards! If you don't want to be scrap get the hell out of my way!  I just want to meet that black Rockman only!

ROCKMAN: Don't get in my way!  Please, I want you to let me pass here.  I just want to meet and talk with Shadow.

COMPASSMAN: My name is Compassman; Rockman Shadow's friend.  After this stage is Shadow's castle.  But, I won't let you get past here.  Prepare for me to be your enemy from now.  You'd better fight for your life if you expect to live.

---

The basic idea CompassMan seems to convey is that the Dimensions are somewhat Rockman Shadow's friends, but that only raises more questions than answers in regards to Rockman Shadow's motives. Between all the lies he's told the player, it's certainly interesting to consider how much his forces knew of the truth.

To be more specific, the Breakman in Gigamix is portrayed the way I personally interpreted his character when playing the game.

I actually like this answer a lot. In many ways it shows how much about Breakman is unclear from the game itself and up to our imagination. It's definitely "food for thought". A depiction of "his interpretation" in comic format certainly is quite an effective way to bring his own ideas to the fans, and could shape our own interpretations of what we actually saw in the games.

I'm presuming this does not include TimeMan and OilMan? I would have liked to have seen them in serious roles. But I guess they'll never truly be part of that group.

We kind of already knew that Rock was disarmed and living peacefully in Quint's future. The WS game just went with what World2 said. From that same story, we knew Wily had retired, but was tricked by his past self into helping him kidnap Rock. What the WS game adds to this whole story is that Wily did not continue his evil ways, Rockman Shadow destroyed that future and warriors that could beat him only existed in the past.

I think the game has a pretty nice plot. You just need to realize that Rockman Shadow is considerably different from Quint, despite the many similarities. I just think the game could have done without the sudden flashback art shift, and that CompassMan could have gotten more meaningful lines.

also, didnt they say he had "whiskers like the general"? I dont see Cains mustache looking like General's.

Designer comments, yes. But what the designers had in mind might not match the final product.

And just because General and the hunter commander both had whiskers, doesn't mean said whiskers have to look alike.

It was some unamed reploid general.  Cain supposely died after X4 or, acorrding to MHX durning the missle lanch.  We'll never exactly know what's exactly right, but unless they make a MHX 2 I'd learn toward the the first scenario.

We do not know if the general of the Hunters was a Repliroid. It could have been Cain. X-compendium makes a big point on how the X-series is divided into three parts. X's early days with Cain has the hunter commander. The time Signas took charge, and the time Axl appeared.

Who didn't devilishly curve their pointer finger back then?  That's just how you got by charging and dash-jumping at the same time.

You know, with how many that played the original SNES games couldn't get the hint that L/R dashing was far superior. I really don't see how PB has the nerve to complain about XC and XS's mechanics. Dashing whilst charging and jumping doesn't stop being stupidly clumsy until you change the controls. Yet he still put him with devilishly curved fingers and enjoyed it. If you can do that, what's so bad about using two buttons to dash?

No he is not!  When awful control schemes (IE: Xtreme series, Star Fox DS) interfere with his enjoyment of a game, he quits, buckles like a belt, and lets Ninja Lou tell him if the game was good or not!

You quit? You haven't even begun to try! Man up, get the game and play it.

This is the era of the internet, shouldn't be hard to get it through whatever means. Doing just that, you can get your oh so important dash button by mapping select to instead a more appropriate button.

You have no excuse, PB, and you know it.

It just occurred to me that in a topic about the revisions the Z series undertook, we haven't discussed the change from the cross-like Heaven to the domed Neo Arcadia. Not that I can think of much to add about it, just seems funny we didn't mention it.

I'm not sure if "domed Neo Arcadia" really replaced "cross-like Heaven". Given Heaven Base's depiction in the manga, to me it seems more like they replaced that concept with the Orbital Elevator and Area X; Neo Arcadia being the city that stands around Heaven.

On another note, I still wonder how the whole dome concept is supposed to work.

Well, vigilante is my view, though perhaps I am mistaken.

No, your post certainly clears it up. The games themselves aren't very clear it on the matter and this explains why Thomas did mention that Guardian was approaching the quarry.

This is all wonderful information, but I've always wondered something: where exactly did Signas come from?  Was he built by Dr. Cain or Cain Labs at some point prior to X5, or was he built by some 3rd party and has nothing to do with Cain/Cain Labs?

Well, you can throw away the notion that "Cain Labs" build him, because Cain Labs doesn't exist in the RockmanX games.

As for Signas' creator, like with so many Reploids, we don't know we built him. It's not considered relevant, really.

Here's one of his profiles:

Signas
Feeling responsible for the many needless deaths resulting from judging the
Colonel as an Irregular and starting the Repliforce Great War, the previous
Irregular Hunter General has resigned.
Urgently, Signas was chosen for the duty. Not intended to be a warrior, Signas
was designed with the latest repliroid advances and possesses the most
precise CPU in existence. Because of his calm judgement and quick thinking,
he was selected to the position of General.
