I'm sure there's more than one person on this forum who affectionately names inanimate objects, so let's share our embarrassing naming conventions!
I'll start first.
Xion D33
Type: Personal computer.
History: That's his full name right there, there's something interesting in his initials but that's for me to know and bored people to figure out. There isn't much of a story as to why I named him Xion. I just chose a name that began with X because his chassis is decorated with them of course, I chose the chassis myself. Xion is the PC I do everything on.
Nix
Type: External HDD
History: A tiny external bought to back up Xion's most important files. Polar opposites but also just different sides of the same coin 8D
Morte YP-U3
Type: Mp3 player
History: Morte is the first device I named. He was a B'day present from my high school friends what the hell I used to go to school?! and so I became affectionate and named him and his sister on the spot. They were named after their colours~
Ichigo
Type: Blankie
History: Yes, blankie. I called her strawberry because she was pink and cute. Okay? I don't actually like Bleach.
Cantilena
Type: Piano
History: She's like 10 years old, but I only named her recently. She's served me well over the years and deserves some love.
Virgil
Type: B'day present - I mean, DS Lite
History: 1 year after Morte, my friends gave me a Virgil. Aww, I wub them >w< Virgil has actually met and befriended Lucent, a somewhat older female DS Lite who accidentally got dropped a few times.
Aaaand that's it~ What do you mean that's it? You mean holy [parasitic bomb] it finally ended man
Unless anyone is interested in the fact that I named my current USB 'Blues' because of its colour scheme and to give me an incentive to not leave it behind. My friends question my colour naming. I tell them it's a music genre.
-
I named my computer TaylorLynComp, and my DS is the DS.
I also named my flash drive TalynDrve3, since it's my third drive.
I haven't really named that many things...
-
Any of my electronic devices that specifically ask for a name (pc, ipod, external hdd) all get named after characters from Code Lyoko.
-
Yeah, mine are named on an EXE-style naming system...
-
Aww, you guys are boring. No way no way every place has people with interesting naming schemes~~~ I have a friend who names his computers EVA01 etc and apparently his network is NERV. I think.
My network is Skynet.
Yup.
-
I only know one person who actually does this.
I just give my things a generic enough name to be identifiable. Though, I think labelled this new PC "GothamCity".
-
My car's nickname is the Thundertank.
I named my White PSP Blanco.
My iPod Touch's name is The Screen of Omens.
My Phone's name is R2D2, of course this is because it's the DROID R2D2 model.
My PS3's name is The Tower of Omens.
I name a LOT of stuff. XD
-
You have a car? Aww~ Jealous~~ What do your iPod and PS3 have to do with each other?
No one gives them genders?
-

It's Thundercats related. I tend to name some stuff after my favorite cartoon ever! 8D
-
No Blues references?
-
Sometimes I like to call my printer a few names, like "Piece of [parasitic bomb]" or "Stupid Douchebag"
-
No Blues references?
Nah. For that, I just buy expensive sunglasses. 8B
-
Nah. For that, I just buy expensive sunglasses. 8B
Oh, so you're like my brother then, huh? He too buys expensive sunglasses... in fact, now that I think of it...
-
My car is Marina, as in Marina Liteyears from Mischief Makers.
My ipod is White Knight.
My 360 is Belle.
-
My old PC was called YOUFUCKINGPIECEOFSHITSTOPBREAKINGSODAMNMUCHARRRRGH.
My new PC is called
[spoiler]BLUE SCREEN BRINGER OF DEATH AND DOOM AND GENERAL NOT-NICENESS[/spoiler]
-

You know I don't think I've ever seen a blue screen of death on any of the computers I've had.
The only thing I named was my mom's old car and it was Death Trap or something along those lines. I don't know why I don't name my things.
-
My computer's name is Junker.
Because its getting scrapped when I get a new rig.
-
I don't know why I don't name my things.
Because you're NORMAL?
[spoiler]
"DON'T SAY NORMAL!"

I buy expensive sunglasses! I did. Until my myopia got the better of me and I didn't like contacts enough to always wear them.
My old PC was called YOUFUCKINGPIECEOFSHITSTOPBREAKINGSODAMNMUCHARRRRGH.

[spoiler]BLUE SCREEN BRINGER OF DEATH AND DOOM AND GENERAL NOT-NICENESS[/spoiler]
Oh wow, I didn't know PC names could be that long =O
That reminds me, Lucent's owner's computer is called 'Stupid', it really is =O And our laser printer is officially called '[sonic slicer]'. I don't think our parents noticed.
@Sakura: You...do use Windows...right?
-
@Sakura: You...do use Windows...right?
Yeah I do use Windows, I hate Macs.
-
Nah. For that, I just buy expensive sunglasses. 8B
Didn't you have a pair that were like silver or something? I remember us making a lot of jokes about some glasses you got...
Also, there's a keyboard I use that I call Cassie.
[spoiler=Reason]
Because it's a Casio... not too original, I admit...[/spoiler]
-
It's okay Cassie is a cute name either way =w=b
I've never heard of a Windows machine that never Blue Screened. They all blue screen eventually, some faster than others depending on how much and how often you mess around with it. >_>!
-
Mine never has!! The only blue screen on my lappy is in pictures I've gotten... probably from here.
-
Oh I have many names for my devices.
They range from "Piece of [parasitic bomb]" over "Useless piece of [parasitic bomb]" to "[tornado fang]ing piece of [parasitic bomb]".
They're all related by the way. They all have the same last name. All part of the family "go [tornado fang] yourself"
-
Good to know there's a lot of love going around in your house =w=b
-
My house is a palace of love and peace.
-
My computer's name is "The Computer".
He's a total diva so he insists I use the The.
One of these days, the monitor will want preferential treatment too. God damn appliances.
-
I named my laptop "Irgendein-Typ" when first prompted.
But I still just refer to it by what it actually is, along with any other electronic device I own.
-
Hey Bueno your computer sounds like you. Nya. :3 I bet the fridge will want it first.
Irgendein-Typ? That's a cool name =O How did you come up with it~?
-
Irgendein-Typ? That's a cool name =O How did you come up with it~?
It's "some guy" in German. Got the translation from a friend years ago and been using it since.
It's also what I originally joined the site as. Most people just shorten it to "Irgy".
-
I have names for HDDs. C: is obviously System on both computers. On the desktop - D: is Empire (keeping all important stuff), E: is Dungeon (for random things), F: is Casemate (as prison - it holds everything that soon will be burned to DVDs). Netbook D: is called Universe as it holds every possible thing.
Other things are simply DS, [ZEN] stone, phone, and so on.
-
Lol, I actually name my HDDs too. But the naming goes like this:
C: Control (System, as per usual)
D: Data (Important things)
E: Extra (Everything else)
F: Frosty. Frosty is an external. Frosty is white.
Nice to know I'm not the only one that does it 8D
-
I called my D: My crap.
-
Oh, forgot about that.
When prompted, I named my external 1TB Hard-drive "Crap".
Edit: Apparently I'm quite unoriginal
Edit 2: Also if it counts, I renamed "Documents" to "Sterf" some time ago.
-
XD.
It is full of crap.
-
I know logs of people who name stuff 'crap'. The closest I got to that was 'Random Crap'. Everything else is always 'Temp'.
But they are never ever ever temporary >_>!
-
I always name my folders for maps and guides and stuff "Codes and Stuff [number]". I'm currently on Codes & Stuff V. Because it's the fifth such folder I've had. 1-4 were on my Compaq that crashed three times, so I remade it each time.
-
Hmm... for a while my computer used to be called "Family Computer", now its "Crapsack"
The Laptop is "Son of Crapsack", just because of the stupid [parasitic bomb] keypad and the fact that it can't play HL2 very well despite being pretty damn new (2009 or something).
The Vista downstairs is "Unreasonable Child" Because of how vista has that stupid "User Account Control" always prompting for permission to do stuff. (I would undo it but my parents would probably get pissy, im going to do it today.)
TV is "Shiny Wafer"
Gamecube is simply "Cube I trip on"
Wii is "EXCEPTION (DSI) OCCURED!" Because that happens way too [tornado fang]ing much when I'm homebrewin'.
Also, when it comes to folders for my crap, I go with everything having to be "Unnamed Folder", I'm up to Unnamed Folder 3, because the first one I deleted because my parents complained, afterwards I made a new one which I called NEW Unnamed Folder, then I just said Screw it and made a 3rd one, which currently resides on my EXHDD (Which I call Red, because it is Red.) I have an alternate one on the "Unreasonable child", Which I call "Unnamed Folder Vista Edition". I also have Unnamed Music, where I put all of my "Obtained" Soundtracks. (With seperate folders for Anime and Video games, because thats all I ever "Obtain".
-
...
I would /hate/ to browse your computer(s). Despite being messy, I do have some kind of an order and everything is properly tagged...
I have music folders for hmm, lesee. Ambient tracks, Anime, Doujin, my own crap, Classics, Contemporary, Dance, Game, Indie, Orchestral, Soundtrack (like, movies and stuffs), and Vocaloid.
On second thoughts I don't know why I have that first folder. And even though Vocaloid fits into Doujin (Which is really Indie), along with my own stuffs, and Game music belongs in Soundtrack and I don't listen to Techno anymore...
-
All I ever tag is my music, so that way it has album art and is properly cleaned up for my Zune.
-
If we're talking about tagging music, my tags have to perfect. I add custom tags like 'original title' (written in moonspeak), 'exact release date', 'price', and so on. Foobar2000 is very helpful with mass tagging.
There's also a 'serial no.' tag (say, INTIR-015), and with the help of a little script I use it to display album's cover. So, instead of having a 'front.jpg' file in each and every folder (or trying to figure out how to keep multiple 'front.jpg's in the same 'random' folder, which is just impossible), I have a single folder named '_art' that keeps all the covers together, named like 'INTIR-015.jpg'.
-
I tag all my Japanese songs in moonspeak anyway. Not that I can read it, but I can recognise them just fine if I like them enough to download them.
I'm so picky, even my composers and singers are all in their original moonspeak glory \o/ I really should get to learning the language but I really suck with languages.
Also my album covers are embedded into my mp3s :D Separate image files are just a pain. <3 Mp3tag.
-
this is still a thread about named devices right
because i named my desktop pc areuredyforsumfutbol
and my laptop is peptochan because it's the pinkest [parasitic bomb] i've ever owned
-
Yes, \o/ I'm just running my mouth 'cause no one else is weird enough to name things.
Your desktop plays football? I actually had to google Pepto 'cause we don't have that here...and...I...see...
I've never seen a pink laptop before o_o
-
I've never seen a pink laptop before o_o
I always wanted to have a pink PC... but now I have a black PC... ehhh...
What?
-
because i named my desktop pc areuredyforsumfutbol
Do you kick it?
-
Speaking of laptops, my sister just came home with two of them. A black one and a white one. Apparently they were cheap.
</random>
@Kharaxel But where in the world would you find a pink chassis? >_o
...Nevermind I just googled and found that apparently there's a pink Macbook Pro and there's also a pink iCute. Whatever that is.
-
What?
Nothing. Do go on.

My car's nickname is the Thundertank.
Now I want to see your car. XD
I dont particularly name my stuff, though ive somewhat adopted my friends' habit of calling their MP3 player "Mippy" and my laptop "Lappy" (Or "Lappy-kun")
Another friend of mine named his car The Jalopy. XD
-
Everyone calls their laptop 'Lappy' =w=a
Mippy is new though.
The Jalo- ...Poor car, no love at all =(/me just wants a car ;w;
-
He affectionately calls it that.
but it IS a used car. probably id say from the late 80's to mid 90's.
-
D'aw. Tough love. The best kind.
New device, new name!
Athena -> HTC Legend
She's quite pretty. And 100% new so we don't know her personality just yet.
-
Did she pop out of Zeus' head fully formed?
-
Totally did. Wouldn't want my Athena any other way.
-
Well... unless I missed it, what do you have named Zeus? Or do you just call the store or wherever you got it from for this instance only? :P
-
The latter. :D
One of my devices having a baby is a little too much...probably.
-
Hey, you're in RPM now; anything can happen!
-
I'm Krystal, anything can happen.
This is more of a case of, uh, what-if-I-don't-want-it-to-happen >_>
-
My old computer is named Rickenbacker
My new computer is named Rickenbacker MkII
I don't individually name drives, because then I have to think of a good combination since there are more than one now.
-
My PSP's name is Coco, and it's moe anthromorph is a girl with a bandage on her head and nose because she keeps tripping over, thus the CD and batteries keep sliding out in the process, but the PSP itself is durable after 15 falls and accidents, hence the name.
-
@Rad: Rickenbacker? Like a Rickenbacker bass? :D
Gaia you should take better care of your PSP...
