Title: Is this legal?
Post by: Police Girl on May 24, 2010, 04:09:04 AM
My parents have just decided for any missing assignments I have in school, they're going to fine me a large sum of money, I say this is bullshit and probably isn't legal, what do you guys think?

Legal maybe, but it's stupid.

Just another couple of parents that think homework will solve everything, it seems.

Incidentally, how much are they charging and what happens if you can't pay?

O-Of course it's legal, it's probably their money that they've given to you in the first place ^^;

Legal, yes, but stupid. Why fine your children over some measly homework?

Not really, considering its MY money that I earned from Mcdonalds fair and square. I believe they said $25 for EACH SINGLE missing assignment.

Oh right, I forgot to mention that I have 3 classes im failing (Speech due to a shitty teacher, Geometry due to a teacher who doesn't care, and US History because of shitty class hours.) And close to failing two more (1 is gym with an overbearing teacher and fucktarded seniors, and another with the same shitty teacher as the one im failing (Speech and English... [tornado fang]ing hate it.) And don't think im not trying...

Well if it's money you've earned, that ain't right. Not sure if it's really illegal, though. Just mean.

Have you considered the possibility that this is an empty threat to scare you into doing your work?

What the hell're they going to do if you tell them no?  Beat you up and take it?

Just keep it somewhere they can't find it.

I pretty much did nothing in my high school years but I always blamed everything on myself, you are blaming everyone BUT yourself o.o
My parents would have had every right to charge me for missing things

Hmm... going to do the same thing that I do with my PC and my other stuff, hide it so my parents can't take it. They act smart but they're pretty stupid.

Okay, I'm sorry, but your folks are plain stupid.

Also: You could take $25 or so from them and give it to them when necessary. Winky winky.

Well, they are his parents. They could do something like stop paying for internet service and poor Kallen could be stuck watching shitty cable shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm during his free time.

Do what I do when my parents demand money from me.

Tell them to go [tornado fang] themselves and get a [tornado fang]ing job if they're that destitute that they need to bum off their offspring.

I blame them because they think the best solution to help is to [sonic slicer] and moan. I don't blame them exclusively, I blame myself enough. I mean, I could do this or I could do work, I have no decision making skills, My prioritizing is way off.

And for the record they both have jobs... Good old salary jobs, while I have a wage. They have enough [tornado fang]ing money, they keep insisting that I'm not going to graduate on time with my class, I keep telling them they need to stop saying [parasitic bomb] like that as it isn't helping, they also keep saying stuff like "you need to keep your grades up" or "Don't miss any assignments". That really doesn't help me... Neither does the schools habit of putting hard to concentrate in classes in the morning, Like History (Social Studies is my worst subject, every year its been in the morning.) or English...

[tornado fang] I hate the fact that my parents keep checking my grades online, granted thats what they "should" be doing, but I don't like it...

Ah... that works too. It won't work if your parents are Asian, though (I speak from personal experience).

If they are just gonna give you this much trouble, burn your money out all at once so they won't get thier grubby hands on it..

My parents mainly have this obsessive problem with taking stuff away from me based on schoolwork, which doesn't work for me clearly, it doesn't stop them. Maybe its because they aren't past 40 years old yet. they still think active parenting actually works... As if.  8D
Title: Re: Is this legal?
Post by: Romantic Fool on May 24, 2010, 04:59:25 AM
Active parenting works to an extent, but if it's clearly not working and they're as dumb as you say they are, tell it to them straight, no?

Post by: Girla PurpleHeart on May 24, 2010, 05:13:27 AM
No, it's just plain stupid that your parents do it if you missed assignments. Good think that there's make-up work for students who were absent from school. But why would your parents do that?
Title: Re: Is this legal?
Post by: Dexter Dexter on May 24, 2010, 05:18:25 AM
They should know that schoolwork/homework and money are two different worlds that should be kept separate. If they collide, however, there's going to be a [chameleon sting]ing lot of hell.

are you in college, or still HS?
If you are in college, then that would explain it. They feel cheated out of their money on you.

HOWEVER,

if its money YOU earned, then im pretty sure they really have no legal right to forcibly take money from you. are you accounts all in your name, or still controlled by your parents? if they are yours alone, then they've got no right.

I mean, hell, there was that one kid who sued his own mother for harassment on myspace...(or was it facebook?)

Ah... that works too. It won't work if your parents are Asian, though (I speak from personal experience).
if your parents are immigrants in GENERAL.
If I gave my parrents guff, they wouldnt hesitate to get rid of my consoles, or even donate mylaptop or something. I was like what, 5? I was playing with a toy car on the stairs, even after my mom told me not to. She took it in a fit of rage and smashed it to bits with a [tornado fang]ing hammer. You dont DO that when your a little [tornado fang]ing kid. She also threw my power ranger out the front door another time... And didnt hesitate to put a LOCK on the TV cabinet, or a switch in a locked box to dad's computer plug.

Yeah. sadly, my parents dont [tornado fang] around. :\
Its not as easy as just manning up.

But hey, Kallen, if your parents are only willing to go as far as to demand money and wouldnt do anything else, then go ahead and stand up to em.

Parental issues should be with a therapist anyway, and/or negotiate some sort of peace treaty. Someone should warrant a rule towards this type of thread too.

"Help, my legal guardians are educating me according to a good parent's normal standards! DAMN them for taking interest in my schoolwork and making sure I don't fail my classes, get good grades and get into a nice college so I can have a stable future! They're really, really evil!"

I want to BREAK YOUR FACE right now, you know? You have just described parents who not only LET you keep a part-time job PLUS staying on the internet like this. All this while you're FAILING THREE CLASSES, AND ALMOST FAILING OTHER TWO. My God, I know parents who would friggin' cut off internet and TV privileges and ground you if you started failing a single class. And you know what? I'd KILL to have parents like that. Many, MANY people would. Failing all of those classes is very bad, specially if you're willing to blame it on teachers and the school so easily. Life's tough, the school isn't going to tailor-make your classes so they're easier for you to pass. You've got a home, with loving parents who have pretty much taken care of you all of their lives, educated you, been there for you, and now, they're trying to get you to work harder, so you can get better results. Checking grades online? You think that's evil? I WISH my bum of a father would have found some time to yell at me about my grades in the middle of one of his drunken stupors. Maybe I wouldn't have needed to fail a damn year in order to realise that to get ANYWHERE in life, you have to work very hard. And care about your work. All your parents are trying to do, is be GOOD PARENTS. Because that's what this is, good parenting. They're taking away something you care about in order to make you work harder for it. They're trying their best to find a way to motivate you to work harder, without actually going to the point of grounding you. Oh, and homework isn't a damn comodity to do, it's an OBLIGATION. You're in school, you do your homework. If you go to work and don't do stuff, you get fired. If you have a part-time job, you should know that by now.

But you have... have the gall to come to this forum, say your parents are taking away "your money" (by the way, you owe them a few dozen thousand dollars to them, for putting you through education, feeding you, taking care of you and clothing you) because you're a little s.hithead who doesn't do his homework? I don't care HOW tough you think your life is. You've got something most people DREAM they could have. Caring, loving parents who care enough about you to put you through this, so you can GROW THE HELL UP. And you do this? You have the NERVE to do this? To say "Hohohohoho, my parents are old and dumb and obcessive on taking stuff from me when I misbehave!". Don't you think they're TRYING THEIR HARDEST to educate you properly? Don't you think you owe them at least some damn RESPECT?

Next time, think about what you're going to say before b.itching about HAVING GOOD PARENTS. Because I swear, if I had a son who talked about me like that, I'd cry.

[parasitic bomb] dawg, at least I don't have that issue, next time, keep it to yourself to avoid getting burned badly like this.
