Title: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: HyperSonicEXE on November 14, 2008, 04:47:54 AM
Why would it be "Lead, to direct"? That makes absolutely no sense, other than describing how it works, but it's not grammatically correct like every other weapon.

It *is* lead as in "to direct".  This was news on MM Network back in the day.

...wha?
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: HyperSonicEXE on November 14, 2008, 04:52:13 AM
Then they should have named it Tracker Bubble or Scout Bubble,

Because it could also be "Bubble Lead" the element, because it drops.

Any other "bubble" weapon has risen. Not this one.

Post by: Gauntlet101010 on November 14, 2008, 04:53:57 AM
If it was lead-the-element then it should just drop like a stone and stay in place.  It's a pretty good name tho, considering one bubble "leads" the other along the floor.

Post by: Bag of Magic Food on November 14, 2008, 04:54:29 AM
Wait, does it ever bounce in the water like BubbleMan's bubbles, or is it yet another weapon that works nothing like the way it does for the boss you get it from?
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Solar on November 14, 2008, 04:55:24 AM
Well, maybe it's just Engrish, since you know, the Japanese spelling is バブル リード (as in "to direct") or something similar IIRC.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Bag of Magic Food on November 14, 2008, 04:57:17 AM
Yeah, they probably just misspelled it in the Japanese version.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Pringer X on November 14, 2008, 04:58:53 AM
I always thought it was just lead in the bubbles, which is why they didn't float away and why they actually hurt stuff. There has to be SOME logic in video games, and it makes more sense that you kill a robot with a heavy bubble than something else. Otherwise, you could make so many cracks about how it just burns the enemies eyes, but doesn't kill them, and Bubble Man being laughed at by everyone because the worst he can do is make someone's eyes water.

It also seems more awesome to crush someone with a friggin' bubble. That's some serious Chuck Norris [parasitic bomb] right there o3o
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Satoryu on November 14, 2008, 05:01:02 AM
it's "lead the way" lead, not "a good fry cook always keeps a brick of lead in his hat" lead. it makes perfect sense, despite it's improper grammar.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Bag of Magic Food on November 14, 2008, 05:02:32 AM
But don't most of the projectile weapons "lead" you in that they travel in front of you?
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?

Bubble lead is different in that it leads the way and shows you the holographic floor in the Wily Stages.

My point, exactly.

The only really strong evidence against me is that the Kanji reads "ree-doh" or "ri-doh".

But I'm still pronouncing it the other way.

What more evidence do you want? I'd say that's proof.

But Search Snake could do that too.  Why don't we call it Lead Snake?

Because "Lead Snake" doesn't alliterate and sounds less catchy?

Who cares if it's gramatically incorrect?  Or why Search Snakes don't match it?  The reason why it's lead"ing" has been given.   It's a funky Japanese weapon name.  Why does Flash man have Time Stopper and Bright man have Flash Stopper?  Who cares?  They just do.

Since I'm both a Leader and the element of Lead (Pb), it doesn't matter what I call it.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Pringer X on November 14, 2008, 06:29:05 PM
I still think it's the element lead. Unless Mega Man is greater than Chuck Norris, I highly doubt he can crush a met with a bubble, let alone a robot master.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Alice in Entropy on November 14, 2008, 06:38:27 PM
Grah. This used to confuse the hell outta me. I originally pronounced it "LEED", but then I changed to "LED".

"LEED" would probably make more sense, given that it "leads" itself along the floor. However, "LED" also makes a little bit of sense, given that the bubbles do indeed hit the floor and roll along from there. Didn't some official sources state Wily created super-heavy bubbles by chemically combining H2O and Pb, or am I mistaken?

I dunno. I don't have much of a preference either way. @_@

if Mega Man can kill robots with wind, he can most certainly use a bubble.

Except those are TORNADOES! Unless the robots are TIV's, there's not much that can stand up to a tornado, especially a puny little robot that doesn't weigh more than a ton (and I doubt any of the robots Mega Man fights weigh as such). Even then a ton isn't a sure-fire way to avoid a tornado (9 tons is a better number), so that means every robot Mega Man goes up against is screwed if he has a tornado weapon.
Title: Re: Bubble Lead, or Bubble Lead?
Post by: Bag of Magic Food on November 15, 2008, 10:03:17 PM
But those funnel clouds are so small... I don't think they can be real tornadoes.  I bet they are just TopMan's tops with swirls painted on them.  Hey, this could go in my sourcebook!

ABOUT AIRMAN

Did you know that he is really TopMan in disguise?  It's true!  TopMan thought that he could be taken more seriously if he pretended that his tops were whirlwinds, but eventually he learned to be happy with himself the way he was, after watching some Disney show.

So there. You can call it both ways now. To be honest I thought it was pronounced Bubbles Led however.

I think the "name" means that it leads itself across the ground.
The element is explained from source books.
But names in the games are supposed to explain their function in a game situation.
It's not always meant to explain more complicated stuff than that.
That's what the source books are for.

THAT MUST BE WHY THE BUBBLE DOES NOT FLOAT

Capslock must be tied to idiocy...look at the freaking bubbles, if they were made of lead, would they still be transparant, the answer is NO, so go stuff your fail logic where the sun doesn't shine.
Also, while the bubbles drop fast, for bubbles that is, they don't drop nearly fast enough to be made of lead, barring the fact that it is a chemical impossibility.

WHY CAN'T IT BE BOTH!?!?!?!

BECAUSE CAPCOM SAYS SO!!!111111!!!! >.>
