At least you aren't training them to use the toilet. Some cats get a lot of anxiety by learning to literally use the toilet.

They discovered the water dish and are figuring out how to drink from it. Peridot is trying to eat solid food. So far, she just puts a whole bunch in her mouth, carries it around, and then spits it out.

No, they store it. The food in the cheek pouch is still whole.

Currently waiting for Peridot to pee on the floor, sit in it, and cry until I pick her up.

Yeah that's what I thought, so Peridot for now acts like a rodent with cheek pouches. Better than acting like a dog and drinking from the toilet like Snowball does sometimes. $:\$
